Steve Hagy
Hi,This two-tone beauty is from Dayton, Ohio and is on the scene of a fire at 5th & Pine streets in the early 1950's. I wish I had a view showing the front end, but this is it. I would like to know the year, manufacturer, and model. I'm certain someone will recognize it!Steve
keiser31
Chevrolet. 1946?
Dave Henderson
With no belt molding I believe it's a '47 or '48. Need to see the grille to determine which, the '48 had a vertical bar added.
Dave@Moon
Fortunately the photo is quite detailed and can be expanded quite a lot. The raised fin on the back of the hood ornament marks this car as a 1948 Chevy.
Steve Hagy
Thank you for the replies. I have quite a few more Chief's cars to post here as I get to them.
Curti
Fortunately the photo is quite detailed and can be expanded quite a lot. The raised fin on the back of the hood ornament marks this car as a 1948 Chevy. It is my opinion that the picture is incorrect. The hood ornament on the car is a production or standard hood ornament that was used on both 47 and 48 Chevys. The red plastic hood ornament is 1949 deluxe only. The 1950 deluxe hood ornament had a V shaped wing bird.
Guest prs519
Would this be the model called "Fleetline", as opposed to the Stylemaster models, which had long hood trims, in addition to Stylemaster nameplates?
Curti
It is my opinion that the accessory hood ornament was available at extra cost on the Fleetline, Fleetmaster and Stylemaster. The 1947, 1948 on the right side and the 1946 on the upper left are the accessory ornaments for those respective years. I have no clue about the other ornament labeled 1946. It is not the production hood ornament used on 46 Chevys. I think the long hood trim was 46 Fleetmaster and Fleetline only. I am not sure if the Stylemaster had the hood trim or not. It has been a long time since I sold the Chevrolet parts business, and I am getting a bit rusty. Other Chevy guys should chime in here.
auburnseeker
The plate on the side of the hood would say but I tried blowing it up and it's just to blury to make out.
Curti
I think I got it. There were three different steering wheels. No horn ring is visible, so it was a cap in the center, which would make it a Stylemaster 47 or
Dave Henderson
It's not a Fleetline. That model's 4dr body had no rear quarter windows, only windows in the rear doors.
john2dameron
Most of what has been said is correct. It is not a '46 because it lacks the beltline trim strip. It is not a Fleetline because as someone said the Fleetline 4-door did not have the window behind the rear door. It is a 1947 or '48.
Steve Hagy
Wow! Lots of input on this one. I did what I could to enlarge the photo to better show the nameplate on the side (unreadable) and hood ornament. So what's the decision? 1947 or '48? And which model? Curti
The car in question is a 1947 or 1948 Chevrolet Stylemaster. The only way to tell a 47 from a 48 is a vertical grill center bar that is 48 only.
