wem
The chart for my '34 Lincoln KB calls for SAE 200 oil in the transmission. What is a current product to use in its place. I can't seem to find any reference what-so-ever to the SAE 200 designation anywhere.... Help!
JFranklin
use 140 gear lube it is very close and better than what was used in 1934. Remember if there are brass alloys use a GL-1 formula.
wem
Thank you! I happen to have some 140 GL-1.
Dave Henderson
Adding some STP to it would stiffen it up a bit to slow the gears down for a less grindy mesh during shifts.
28 Chrysler
Lubriplate makes a 140W (SPO-277) and a 250W (SPO-288) gear oil. They cost around $20 for a quart
Restorer32
We might use 600 Steam Cylinder Oil.
mrspeedyt
Refresh my memory....what is equal to 600w steam oil?
Restorer32
600 steam cylinder oil is available from commercial lubrication suppliers. Thick, clingy stuff with a smell all its own. Model A Ford parts suppliers often have it by the quart. Does wonders for an early trans that wants to keep spinning when the clutch is depressed. Restorer32
Grainger has it. Ask for Mobil 600 W Cylinder Oil. You might have to buy 5 gallons at about $20-25/gallon.
Guest bofusmosby
Does wonders for an early trans that wants to keep spinning when the clutch is depressed. What do you consider an early transmission? Would my 37 qualify to be in that group? I have a bit of grinding going from 2nd to 3rd gear. If I pause for a couple of long seconds, no grinding. I have been doing the "double-clutch" thing to prevent the grinding.
Restorer32
We just put it in a '52 military Jeep trans.
