Guest Avanti
Apparently before it was re-finished in black, the Y-Job was painted a metallic gray with a rumored blue leather interior. I found a photograph (of a photograph) showing the car with it's original finish. Anyone have other images? Thanks.
trp3141592
Hi,There's a video of this car on Youtube, running and being driven. --Tom
Guest Avanti
Neat but this isn't what I asked for. Do you have an image of the car in it's original metallic gray finish? Thanks. trp3141592
Hi,I googled and found many pix of the car in black paint, but none in silver/gray. Your photo appears to be a rarity.--Tom
Guest wildcat62
Avanti, neat photo. Thanks for sharing it. The Y-Job is a tie for my all time favorite Buick along with the Blackhawk.
Guest Avanti
Bummer. I was hoping one of the Buick experts would have some old period photographs or reference material with images of the Y-Job in it's original finish. Guess not.
38Buick 80C
You may want to try the Sloan museum and Buick research center.Sloan Museum
MrEarl
Avanti, I have a newspaper clipping of the same image as your photograph. I imagine your photograph itself was used for the news release.
jscheib
Is it possible that it is just the lighting. Lower and inside fenders look about the same color. Just a thought - I am no photo lighting expert. Or for that matter and sort of expert, anymore.John
Larry Schramm
The Y job is in the GM Heritage Center in Detroit. If you call them they might be able to help you.
trp3141592
Hi,Could this print have been FX'd when printed in the darkroom to show the car better? I have to wonder if an all-black front would have just shown as a blob in a newpaper rendition. From my darkroom days (before digital!) I recall it would not have been hard to underexpose the front of the car while fully exposing the balance of the print. The murky details at the bumper supports this thought.--Tom
Barney Eaton
I just purchased a Tootietoy that is made to resemble the "Y" job and its original color was bright yellow... model is 4.25 inches long.
