Guest shiner
Question here regarding the correct use of a rim spreader (jack). When reducing the diameter of the rim in order to mount the tirewhat is the proper location of the hooks in relation to the split.Shiner
Guest DBtouring
Attached are the original directions from my "Hercules Rim Tool".Hope it is readable, if not let me know and I can email it to you.Basically it's a two step process. The first one is to break the rim open.Second is to shrink the rim. Guest 1930
Seems like the thread has been answered so I wil ask another similar question, I need to also get a rim spreader, I have been told that these came in different sizes to accomidate different size wheels, is this true. Any suggestions on a good decent one, do they all work pretty much the same? Dont want to buy a junk one that is hard to use. Thanks

Guest shiner
Hello 1930: I have got 3 spreaders from e-bay and all are basicallythe same. Regarding size I think all are of a universal nature.Cost 30.00 to 40.00 dollars. Hope this helps.Shiner
Guest DBtouring
They did make different size rim spreaders. Some of the later ones won't open wide enough for the early 24 and 25 inch rims. Some cars had even larger rims.Just be sure what you buy will open up large enough for your wheels. For anyone needing an email, I'll send it tonight when I get home. I don't have that copy on my work computer.I have also seen them with different thread count. The more threads it has on the main shaft, the easier it seems to turn. Slower of course, but easier to turn. Edited March 16, 2010 by DBtouring (see edit history)

R.White
Are the rims the same on disc and wooden wheels? I have a 1926 car with disc wheels and at present no means of changing a tire and I doubt my local tire centre would know what to do. Will I need to buy one of these tools? - I am unfamiliar with split rims. Thankyou.Ray
