Guest Bill Bickell
The dimmer coil broke, what can I use to replace it, or how can I make one? It's a Clum three point switch.
Dandy Dave
Nichrome Wire. You need to know the resistance of the wire and then just wind one. Dandy Dave!
72caddy
I need to make one as well. Anyone know the resistance?
Dandy Dave
A good place to start is with the diameter. Measure it with a micrometer and that will get you in the ball park. The other way is with an olm meter. Resistance is measured by the foot if that helps. Dandy Dave!
nearchoclatetown
Dumb question, could you measure the resistance of both pieces of the broken coil and add the two together to get total resistance? I'm not sure it's THAT important as it only dims the dash light, but does make you think.
platt-deutsch
On my 25 it dims the headlights.
dwollam
Yes, it should dim the headlights, although as low of watts as these are I have no idea why we would want to dim them!
72caddy
I guess we could just wind one that dims the lights to your satisfaction and not worry about the exact reading. The manual or newletter has a good picture of this, so it is time to tinker -- my favorite time!
Guest Jack27
For the dimmer you need an Ohmite B20J2R0,20 watt, 2 ohm resistor or equivalent. Ohmite is the company that makes them. You should be able to find one an electronics store or at Newark Electronics on the web. This will dim the lights but you can still seed to drive.Jack

72caddy
So GALCO has a minimum order of $35. Each one is a little over $5. Anyone want to go in on a group buy? I need 1. Who needs the other 6?I'll keep searching the web but right now most sites are pointing to GALCO for their sourcing.
jan arnett (2)
I would not worry about it. You need brighter lights not dimmer lights. I just wire across the two contacts on all my cars. I even installed Halageon(sp) to make it brighter.Jan
Guest Bill Bickell
Well, thanks, I found that I could get a 25 watt, 2 Ohm resistor at Fry's electronics for $0.99 as jack27 provided the information needed.
