  1. John, I didn't know you had a Franklin once...I always thought you were only a Dodge guy!
  2. RansomEli, yes, that's the car!...I think it was owned by a guy named Phil B....that is my neighborhood too; called Fairmount....I saw it sitting in his driveway while his house was on our annual home tour...glad your '21 has a companion too; it seemed like a very nice car.
  3. Thanks for all the new replies! I am going to tie my turn signals to the brake lights, so will have 3 lights on the rear. Ransom Eli; cool to know there's a '21 Franklin that travels in Round Rock! (there was a '29 Franklin in my hood, but he sold it several years ago)...I get so many comments to rod my car here in Texas (supposedly for better speed)...just the nature of the beast here...I do live in one of those gentrified neighborhoods south of downtown, but again people whiz by, go thru stop signs, etc., but the neighborhood streets are the best way to get to cross streets over the major roads. I may drive slower just to let them pass in places. .....anyone have issues w/ vandalism when parking your car? I know there are a lot of break-ins here on the streets in my hood, but my car will be parked in a garage...that said, I would like to do some errands or go out to eat in the car.
  4. Thanks you all...LarryP I don't have seats belts, but will be getting safety glass....the side streets are normally a posted limit of 30-35 mph, but a lot of people will drive about 50 when in those zones...John348, I've almost been hit by people texting too....a new trend I'm seeing is people going halfway into oncoming, moving traffic from a stop sign in order to stop that lane of traffic, so they can go through..there are many new stunts trying to jockey through traffic here...John Keiser, people are on my butt now even without a neat taillight lens!
  5. I have a '29 Dodge that is undergoing its 2nd restoration. I hope to have paint and body work done in a week or so and then can start reinstalling assemblies, upholstery, etc. so maybe by end of year it will be finished. I wanted the car to be a driver. After my first restoration of this car in the mid-70s I drove to college in it and left it sitting in parking lots for long periods of time. I'd drive it on country roads and heavily trafficked roads. Today's drivers seem much more impatient and vandalism seems much more rampant. I now am getting a little fearful taking it on errands and leaving it parked even for a short time. The car has 4 wheel hydraulic brakes and will have turn signals and she always felt safe to drive before. I'd like to know people's experiences living in a large city (mine is Fort Worth, TX) and using a similar vintage car as a driver.
  6. I seem to remember a post about this several years ago, but can't find it. I know Romar sells an ID plate for $15.95. You can see it in their online catalog under 'Hardware and Accessories'. The post I remember got into how to stamp your number in the old font style onto one of the new ID plates...also, since your original plate is so clean I wonder if you could silkscreen a new image onto it keeping the original stamped number.
  7. The bumper does remind me of Lincoln, but I think there were similar aftermarket bumpers too. The oval window at the rear reminds me of Oakland / Pontiac.....also the oval opera windows on the sides remind me of a '28 Oakland Landau sedan I wanted to buy years ago......so possibly a '28 / '29 Oakland or Pontiac?
  8. (Looks a bit like part of the top hinge from a windshield. How long is it?) Keiser, yes, I thought that too as I've never taken the windshield apart in 45 years which was done recently ...it's about the length of the windshield (I didn't measure), but the windshield has the hinge on it and the holes on the hinge match up with the windshield header....the holes on the piece photographed don't line up w/ anything.
  9. Paint and body are almost done on my '29 DA. The guys have this part left over and I have never seen it before....I was wondering if it's part of the windshield assembly as it's that long and I didn't take the windshield apart.....any ideas? Lastly, In putting on the fenders does the fender welting on the front fenders just go the length of hood sill plates or all the way down the fender towards runningboards against the frame? Thanks!
  10. Probably pot metal which can break easily....someone, incl. Myers Early Dodge might have the black piece and lever....also, Myers reps this repro in stainless steel. http://www.vintageandclassicreproductions.com/DOD-120.jpg
  11. It does seem like it may be made of wire.....like a stone guard...maybe being a dump truck, it's actually a stone guard and the person writing the text got the terminology wrong?
  12. Thanks! I wasn't sure if a Model A pin would be the same.
  13. Mark, I used what frank29u used....I think I only did 5 coats, but as he did I sanded w/ a fine grit between coats. I didn't use any lubricant in putting it all back together. I didn't have original bolts, but I think people have reused them as the heads are more rounded than today's carriage bolts. Here are some photos in a post I did a few years ago http://forums.aaca.org/topic/201899-1929-dodge-da-hub/?hl=%2Bwood+%2Bwheels#entry1036098...basically I had 2 plates of metal on either side of hub w/ an allthread bolt connecting them thru hub....I arranged the spokes like a teepee around a plastic cup and started tightening the bolt on the allthread until the cup collapsed and the spokes were fairly tight around the hub....then I used a rubber mallet on backside of spokes to finish the installation.....the photos will help...I got the idea from fellow DBer, Jan Arnett. Good luck!
  14. I used poly on mine, but have heard some use linseed oil....I hope you are not sanding the edges where the spokes fit together as they need a very tight fit going back in.....also, number your spokes, so they go to the correct wheel and in same order..
  15. Thanks for all the ideas! I'm going to try just to use the one battery w/ the 6v system for now....I can change down the road if I need.
  16. The generator was rebuilt....I think I was told I have a generator from a '35 Dodge on it.
  17. Grimy, thanks, my car is a '29 Dodge that I hope will be almost a daily driver. This is the reason for the heater and turnsignals. The radio, I thought, might just be a cool era accessory. I have a typical 6v (from Napa) battery. I wondered about a 2nd battery in series, but I haven't seen it done. I do have an extra battery box I can drop in the car....I also wondered if a larger 6v battery might work....again, all wiring, connections and battery are new and I would hate to go to 12v if I don't need to.
  18. I need to replace 3 door hinge pins for my '29. Anyone know where to get these?...or a replacement version?
  19. Thanks! Yes, wiring and battery are new, generator rebuilt and connections all good.....thanks also for the suggestion on LED bulbs.
  20. I'd like to add a heater, radio and turn signals to a car w/ a 6v system. All accessories are 6v. Will these be a drain to the system if all connections are maintained properly?....or is there a certain 6v battery that may handle these upgrades without going to a 12v system?
  21. This video was made for a car on eBay several years ago.....I watch it every so often for inspiration!
  22. Also, I saw there was a Twilight Blue and Japanese Blue for the lower body
  23. I have the body off the car to be bead blasted. Under the firewall insulation you can see the original color (I assume)...it is a beautiful medium blue-green. I saw where Marquis Blue and Marquette Blue were used on the DA sedans. I have paint chips, but no blues are as bright...it almost makes me think the chips have oxidized to darker colors after 80+ years. I guess I am wondering what sort of bright blue-green (more blue) was available that year and is there something close I could look at. Thanks!
  24. On the door panel designs I've seen a plain one in mohair w/ just a door pocket....also, I've seen 2 of these types w/ the perimeter trim along w/ the door pocket.....not sure what the original fabric or color was as I'm sure there were a few options.
  25. Here are repros in stainless of the handles, not cheap though. http://www.vintageandclassicreproductions.com/Dodge.htm
