  2. I agree. It's too bad they don't realize it and part with the vehicles before they turn to dust.
  3. Ever wonder what the reason was for letting something like this sit? I would think most reasonable people would realize they aren't going to use it, restore it, or anything else, & want to get their money out of it. But that's too logical. Maybe that's why we're called old car nuts. Emphasize the nuts part.
  4. Not negativity. The guy asked for advice & unless you've been living in a cave on a remote Pacific island, you should know he will get wheelbarrows full. I see pros and cons, as well as sound advice being offered, especially from some who own or owned cars he is looking at. It's up to him to sift through it, sort it out, weigh ALL the advice given here & make his decision. It appears the biggest drawback to his daily driver plan is whether the car would be used on the freeway/highway on a daily basis. If yes, and he wants to commit suicide by freeway, then so be it. Otherwise, as Matt said, if it's a short ride to work daily on surface roads, he'd be fine.
  5. John & Ed are right. A 20's or 30's car is not a good choice for a daily driver unless you're only going 5-10 miles & keep off the freeways & highways. If you moved up to late 40's or early 50's, I think you would find them more dependable, able to run at 55-60, and within your price range. 6. For 90 grand would it be asking too much to pull it out of the garage/building & take some decent photos? NADA doesn't list an opera coupe. I don't think you will find an opera coupe listed in any price guide. What the hell is an opera coupe? Could you ONLY drive it to the opera? I suspect it's more a case of making something sound better; in this case a 4 passenger coupe becomes an opera coupe, Oh how elegant! Kinda like all Muncie 4 speeds are now called rockcrushers.
  7. That's what I had. Here's a list of tachs available in '66 Chevrolet full size. 6412548 -6000 rpm, 5k red line, used with 283/195hp, 283/220hp, 327/275hp, 396/325hp 6412571 -6000 rpm, 5k red line, used with 396/325hp equipped with RPO K66 Transistor Ignition 6412983 -7000 rpm, 5500 red line, used with 427/390hp 6412572 -7000 rpm, 6k red line, used with 427/425hp equipped with RPO K66 Transistor Ignition and also 427/390hp with RPO K66,1st design 6412984 -7000 rpm, 5500 red line, used with 427/390hp equipped with RPO K66 Transistor Ignition, 2nd design 6412549 -7000 rpm, 6k red line, used with 427/425hp That should clear things up. If you have a tachometer that's for a transistorized ignition DO NOT try to run it on a stock non-transistorized ignition. Just the same, if you have a non TI tach DO NOT try to run it on a transistorized ignition. The polarity as well as the the circuity is different between these systems and damage can happen very easily. Mine is the 6412572. It took about a year of searching daily online to find all the K66 components & the tach. Cost about $3000 total.
  8. My '66 Biscayne L72 had the TI tach. Is that what you are referring to as the Delcotronic?
  9. Is that some or all of the engine sitting on the floor by the one on the right?
  10. Here's the NADA descriptions of values: Low Retail Value This vehicle would be in mechanically functional condition, needing only minor reconditioning. The exterior paint, trim and interior would show normal wear, needing only minor reconditioning. May also be a deteriorated restoration or a very poor amateur restoration. Most usable ‘as-is’. This column does not represent a ‘parts car’ or a non-running vehicle. Note: Some of the vehicles in this publication could be considered ‘Daily Drivers’ and are not valued as a classic vehicle. When determining a value for a daily driver, it is recommended that the subscriber use the low retail value. Average Retail Value This vehicle would be in good condition overall. It could be an older restoration or a well-maintained original vehicle. Completely operable. The exterior paint, trim and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. A “20-footer”. High Retail Value This vehicle would be in excellent condition overall. It could be a completely restored or an extremely well-maintained original vehicle showing very minimal wear. The exterior paint, trim and mechanics are not in need of reconditioning. The interior would be in excellent condition. Some vehicles may be considered “matching numbers” vehicles. I think "Average Retail Value" may be accurate for this car, except for the tires(not too big a deal) & brakes. Old Cars Report Price Guide Condition Descriptions: I think #4 would be a close description of this car's condition.
  11. I would think it would make a difference on why the appraisal is being made, insurance purposes or going up for sale. I don't know, but is it kosher if a car or collection is going up for sale, that whoever does the appraisal buys 1 or more of the cars pre-sale?
  12. The owner prior to the seller was driving it to Milwaukee when he heard noise from the engine, shut it off, & pulled it over. He had it hauled back to MN where he disassembled the engine down to the long block. It sat that way for many, many years 20-30? The seller bought it in that condition and didn't do anything to the car. He also had it for a number of years before putting it up for sale. I didn't buy it because of that and the seller seemed too rehearsed in all his answers to my questions. Sometimes you get a gut feeling & it's usually good to pay heed to it. I have no regrets. I'm just curious if someone here bought it. Finally, I have to call bull sh-t on the car being original and/or unrestored. It was repainted in the 70's, someone on here said some or all the upholstery is redone, and that ugly spotlight sure as heck didn't come from the factory.
  13. Well we're all entitled to our opinions. A few people here thought 20K if it ran would be a fair price. 20K with unknown engine, transmission, & rearend condition is way overpriced IN MY OPINION. Maybe the guy that bought it will be ok money wise on it & maybe he'll take a bath on the mechanicals. I wasn't willing to take that gamble, & I'm glad you're not in charge of my spending my money on cars.
  14. I posted this a while back - Advice on 1933 Hupmobile Roadster purchase, please. Did anyone here buy it? It seemed there was some interest, but the engine not running was a turn off. I backed out because the seller and poster were 2 different people (no explanation why), the seller was a little too slick like he had all the answers rehearsed, and the car was way overpriced considering it's condition(there's an epidemic of that now).
  15. What about putting heavy paper or light cardboard up against the wheel openings of a wagon & a sedan, mark the outline with a pencil or marker, & compare the two? You could even cut them both out & lay them together to check. From the looks of his replies, he doesn't seem too butthurt by any of the comments here. If he's doing a lowrider, wouldn't that car showing up at an AACA event kinda be like the proverbial petunia in an onion patch, only in reverse? All the AACA cars being the petunias & the other one being an onion.
  16. Kingrudy, Your statement may be true BUT: "There is a school of thought that anything that is not from the factory, or "authentic" ruins the look of any car." Anyone posting or reading here for a while should realize that MOST on this site like ORIGINAL. We don't like doodads, sirens, curb feelers, skirts (unless they are ORIGINAL to the specific car, visors (same sentiment as skirts), airbags instead of springs, 13 inch multispoke rims, giant 20 something inch rims, hoppers, lowriders, giant murals, profane paint jobs or bumper stickers, disc brake conversions, crushed velvet interiors, continental kits that were never an original part of the car, shag carpet, the dingleberries in the interior, & MOST of all, a Chevy LS in anything other than what it originally came in. "I don't believe that there is anything positive to be gained by saying that something "ruins" the look of a car." Since in this forum opinions are expressed, we are allowed to tell others that their car sucks if they have any of the above mentioned items on it, as long as we do it generically and in a kinder, gentler fashion. The excellent moderators do a damn good job with that. "Sort of like saying, "I don't know why Baskin Robbins makes 31 flavors of ice cream, because it is clear that chocolate is the very best" I don't like Baskin Robbins so I don't care what that person thinks of their flavors. "The owner of the car has the right to do whatever he wants to the car." We're not disputing that. We're expressing our OPINIONS that certain unholy items put on a car, or criminally insane experiments performed on the body, drive train, suspension, interior, & paint make it look kinda [insert kind word here] crappy. (Use your imagination if you need to insert something a little harsher). To Mr. Moderator, before you delete & ban me for life, please realize most of this post is in jest along with some of this note. (The banning for life part.😁)
  17. What on God's green earth did they do to you, you poor wagon. 1965 Impala & a 396 no less. Hey, make a hopper out of it.
  18. True, but the REAL question is why would you ruin the look of a car with fender skirts? Only 2 things worse: big ugly visor & hydraulics.
  19. Judging from what they want for this car, maybe it's the same guy who is selling the Hup roadster I WAS interested in. Where the he__ are people coming up with the prices they want for their cars? Seems like 90% or more are overpriced no matter what condition.
