  10. Look, a couple of things, first, unrestored originals are finally commanding more money at auctions like Barrett Jackson and Pebble Beach, as they should, anyone can pour money into a car to make it look better than new, but, it takes a real talented person, to care for an original. Anyone can make a car look original but it is truly original only once the car is not original if the upholstery, etc. has been changed. I believe that fully restored and modified cars are only worth the sum of their un original parts that were made in China and not the factory. Finally, I have had my car at many car shows and have not had one person not treat my 1948 Lincoln Cont. (only 850 were made and it is all orig and it was my grandpa's and I found it and bought it back 16 years later.). with full respect and caution and I have had hundreds of people look at the car close up w/o a caution tape or ropes like the other 'classic' car owners with a Mustang (a gillion of those were made) or a '57 Chevy. I think that classic car ownership has begun to become a status symbol or some elite club, instead of inspiring young people and others to love classic cars, they are shunned because of someone not wanting them to even breathe on the car because they have dumped 50 grand into a very common '57 chevy or a Mustang or some other 60's or 70's car, no wonder people my age group are not interested in old cars when you are forced to see them 5-10 ft away like in a museum and when the owners are not willing to even talk to them.

  12. Wow! Looks orig.! I have a 1941 Dodge Buisness Coupe that belonged to my grandfather and has been in the family since 1955, but, I always like the chrysler products from that time, I also like the Desotos with the flip open lights but that one is really nice too!
  13. I like that one next to the ambulance, what kind of Desoto is that?

  17. Detroit did stop Tucker, let us not forget how the steel was costing Tucker twice as much as the big 3 (why would the steel manufacturers do this to Tucker when he was going into mass production? The steel companies would have listened to the big 3, their biggest customers and raised the price on Tucker), Also, Benson, the propped up dictator of the Tucker company (in order to sell stock) was recruited from, I believe Ford or Chrysler and he wanted to change around the car to having the engine in the front and the seat belts taken out, etc. essentially trying to kill what was unique about Tucker compared to the other car companies and the main selling points. Also, they took back his factory in Chicago a few days before the deadline, now why would they do this? and the raid on the tucker factory was in the newspaper before it happened and people lied about reciepts in court to make Tucker look bad (but then he produced the reciepts) As to the point about not being able to sell the cars, after WWII every manufacturer from 1946-1948 had the same basic, boring outdated pre war designs (there are a few exceptions) with the exception of grills, etc. people were starved for an all new car and the people would have bought Tuckers, and as time went on Tucker would have advanced technology to Power Steering air conditioning, etc. Finally, the point about Tucker being as much of a threat as a lemonade stand in comparison with a mcdonalds, someone probably said the same thing about Japanese cars 40 years ago!
  18. I should rephrase, What is Your favorite?
  19. Anyone can afford an old car and make it a daily reliable car. Look, people spend 15-25000 on a new car right? So, go find a decent or older restored 1940 or 1941 for 7 or 8 thousand then you could get everything rebuilt and new wiring, etc. and put in seatbelts and upgrade things to make it reliable and safe and you will clear money! In comparison with a new car and most of all you will get your money back out of it when you want to trade up for a 46 or 47! The cars of the late 30's and up are very reliable (once fixed) and have modern safety technology (juice brakes, etc., these can be updated as well) and economical on gas, my '41 dodge gets about 20 in town and 25 on highway with the original 6 cyl.
  20. What is the best car ever in your opinion?
  21. Tell me what you think of the Tucker story and Tucker and your opinion! And your opinion of what happened to Tucker!
  22. 31 Ford, The old '48 was my grandpa's and he sold it in 1991 when I was 3 and one night after my grandpa died and I was clearing out his garage I found the paper with the vin and I was able to do a search at DMV and to my luck the guy called me and the car was still all orig. down to the paint from when my grandpa had it. And I dealed the guy down and bought it back last July!
  23. Well, I was born in 1988 (the era of crappy cars). And when I was about 4 my grandpa and I started work on his old '21 chevy that was in the family for along time and he wanted me to drive it to school! We worked 1000's of hours on that car, also at the same time in my grandparents backyard was my grandpa's '48 Lincoln Continental which he sold and I just found and bought back! and my mom's dad's 1941 Dodge Coupe, which I own now. So, I guess that that is how I got interested in the old cars!
  24. Well, I am 19 and I have a 1921 Chevy and 1941 Dodge (the 2 prewar out of the 5) , I guess I am just the rare exception and I do not have much money, but, I always seem to manage getting the car fixed and buying parts! Also, the pre-wars and slightly post wars are my favorite, but, my generation is primarily into the rice burners and the 60's and 70's cars because they are the 'cool' ones. I have a '66 Stang that I drove in high school, all restored and mechanically excellent, and my brakes on my '41 dodge feel better and it is a more comfortable car for me and I am 6'1 compared to the Mustang. And I think that both my '41 dodge and '48 Lincoln are much more unique and stylish (especially the '48 Continental in pic. on left) than one of those Mustangs. Pontoon fenders and big whitewalls are my thing, no muscle car or modifying crap! Also I think that people think that pre-war and pre 1957 cars are somehow not reliable and cannot contend with modern trafic w/o being modified in some way. My dad thought this until I got my grandfather's '41 fixed up and it runs smoother and quieter than any new car and gets 20 mpg in the town (straight 6 of course!)
  25. It looks like a.......1928.........Neglected Rust Bucket!
