  1. I'm glad to see this thread, and don't think I have before. Bookmarked and added it to my Buick rear end collection. Trying to wait till fall to do it all.
  2. I live in a crowded little resort town, my shop is 10 miles out in the sticks with a real twisty road in between. Been driving my 53 322 Dynaflow home from the shop about once a week when I figure parking in front of my house should be okay. Every time, I'm really struck by how much get up and go this old boat has. She'll roll, man, there's never any traffic backing up behind ME!

  4. Beemon: I've mentioned before that I read and enjoy all your posts. Still do. But don't go too far with this, it's not worth it. Talk to that guy some, but entertain the possibility of walking away and putting it out of your mind. $5000, (or however much) is a lot of money, but keep it in perspective. I just paid $9200 to re-do the HVAC in our house. I'm 67 years old, a disabled combat veteran, former drug addict and recovered(ing) alcoholic. Wasn't all that long ago I was your age and began getting a handle on my issues. You can always find another $5000, but you really have to work at contentment and peace of mind.

  9. I don't know enough about this and searching hasn't helped me much yet. My father-in-law left me his 75 Lincoln Mark 4, because I was the only one in his whole extended family who ever admired it. When I first drove it home, maybe 20 years ago, it caught on fire from the AC clutch. A mechanical sort of fire, although some of the wires burned. I used the car another 10 years or so, then it got parked in the weeds when gas was $4 and the water pump went out. Now I'm getting her going again. My first inclination is to tear all that AC stuff out of my way and throw it out back. But it's all intact, except for some toasted wiring and that petrified clutch. If the car should ever get nice again, (it isn't too bad) then I suppose AC would be pretty nice. But hasn't the refrigerant changed? I'm sure other things have as well. And I know from my reading here some folks go to great lengths to get AC into cars older that this. So, sorry so wordy but if anyone can offer some thoughts on 40 year old AC, Thanks!!

  13. Here's another one I don't know how much of a long shot it might be. Right side for single exhaust, (maybe they were all single). And I've no idea what they may be worth, I've seen a couple on ebay for $$$$! I'm not concerned about that heat setup in there. Thanks!!
  14. In my opinion, you've got to find the machine shop first. And I don't know if you've done that. Finding a guy that you like and trust is the single most important factor on this kind of stuff. I got real lucky, my man Warren's shop is about 6 miles from mine. I go ask HIM about this kind of issue. And I go see him when I need the ID of something measured. OD, I can do pretty well with my ebay micrometers, etc., but on any kind of ID his figure is always different than mine.
  15. Beemon: I learned something, too. That was just a shot I had in my computer from a few months ago before I went through that carb. I can remember pulling hair out getting those linkages back together. But I just learned to make sure the whole dam piece is in the pic! I always read your posts and have deduced you are just a kid, (I can say that cause I'm pushing 70) but I love your enthusiasm and the way you dive into things. It's inspirational at times. You could do a little book on you and your Buick, I guess nowadays it would be a "blog".

  18. I don't know if MOST of us would have routinely changed all those fluids, but I and many others would.
  19. This is sure a good example of how I find these forums incredibly valuable. And I don't understand people with similar interests who don't use them. I rebuilt this engine AND the Dynaflow with my two bare, dirty hands about 35 years ago. Actually, I went through the Dynaflow 2 or 3 times before things seemed right. It works well, but I'm haunted by remembering a bearing being too loose at the rear of the trans last time I looked. So. If I ever knew the torque tube was supposed to be dry, I forgot that years ago. So my next area of study will be replacing that pinion seal. I just did that in my daily ride, took about an hour and a half. Hope this one doesn't take a month and a half.

  23. Learning every day. Is the tube part, between the fore and aft seals, normally dry then?
