  1. Looks like the dreaded 'tin worms' had a good feast in the cowl area, as well as the lower A frames (they all go there!). The only patch panels I'm aware of for '68/'69 Rivs are the rear lower 1/4s offered by J.C. Whitney Co. EvilBay is also another good source for 'used or nos' parts, but when combined with shipping it can get quite pricey. The '68 Riv also shares a lot of commomn parts with the '69. Good luck with your 'down under' resto, and plese keep us posted on your progress - great pics by the way !

  3. Could be just a poor, or dirty contact on the rheostat portion of the switch, but you'll hafta remove it to check it out, the ground wire (if equipped), may also have a poor source ?
  4. Dipsticks are stamped with part numbers - get the vendor to verify the part is correct for your '70 455 before you bid on it. Does someone have the correct '70 455 part number ?
  5. Jason - you need a hobby ! Great pics, and some good looking Rivieras. Thank you for sharing !
  6. Thanks for the update Ed, looks like a very good turnout !
  7. Thanks for sharing Jason, sure to be a good one !
  8. Rivieras 4 sure - don't know about other Buicks, but there's always something new to learn about Buicks !
  9. Jason/Reatta Man - '69/'70s Rivs had electric fuel pumps that were accessible through a panel in the trunk floor. For whatever reason, they went back to mechanical fuel pumps in '71.
  10. I agree with Ed - screwdrivers and hammers around window glass is definetly a no-no Alex! Old or aged glass can be very brittle and sometimes all you have to do is look at it the wrong way, and it will shatter or chip. A little practice using the tool properly, (I prefer the arrow head one), will eliminate the mystery of window trim removal. The first one is the challenge, after that they are pretty easy ! Maybe a little practice on some junkyard jewels, till you get the hang of it?
  11. Someone is parting a '70 on v8buick (64-300-lark)- I think you may have already contacted him ?
  12. You can never have too many parts cars - as long as you have enough space for them !
  13. I know the three different types are listed in the '68 parts book, and I've seen the early 'elbreakable' plastic door pulls on the deluxe interiors, and the type 3 scroll type escutcheons, but sofar, I've never seen any of the type 3 "R" covers in any of the '68s I've viewed. Guess you never stop learning about these cars -'thanks' for the clarification Darwin ! Sorry Bryan - looks like late'68 or '69 is correct !
  14. I always thought the "R" door pull escutcheons were '69 - the rear door pull escutcheon was a plain surface, and the front one had the "R" logo ? In '68 the escutcheons had a scroll type design on both the front and rear door pull strap covers, and there was a large silver "R" logo fastened to the interior door panel. While they will fit a '68, I believe they would only be period correct on a '69 door pull. I paid $35 for a good set of used "R" types on evilBay, about 2 years ago, but never installed them on my '68.
  15. Hi y'all - I'm finally getting the huge rear bumper on my Riviera rechromed. I need a good "pit free" '68 right hand tail light bezel to use as a core for a replate. (without vertical suports) All my pot metal "spares" are too badly pitted, and the repairs needed for replating are just too extensive and very expensive ! I have an NOS left hand bezel, and would appreciate your help in locating a good right hand piece. Thanks for the read !
  16. Hey Tom - I could use inner rear 1/4 panel plugs, (just ahead of the rear bumper on the inner side of the 1/4 panel ?) if a '66 has them - they are 4 my '68. Thanks !
  17. The plastic tail light lens are not a scarce item, and they can be refurbished easily Bryan. I'm refering to the die cast pot metal bezels that mount in the rear buper, and surrounds/finishes off the tail light assemblies in the bumper ! These were quite prone to pitting (particularily in a northern climate), some collision damage, stress cracks and casting flaws. This is the first NOS piece I've seen available since the Buick Farm sold out of these quite a few years back !
  18. NOS '68 Riviersa left hand tail light bezel on evilBay, not mine ! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=015&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=250211485723&rd=1 . . . just my luck, I need a right side, # 1382068. These are a fairly scarce item to find in NOS condition.
