  1. Here are some another Buick sites you can try Dan - www.v8buick.com and www.buicks.net Post under 'Parts Wanted', there are quite a few Riviera types on both these sites!
  2. Any interest in '71, '72, or '73 Riviera repro interior parts, or 2nd generation Riviera repro interior parts ? Just trying to get a feel for the need at this point in time. Repro vinyl or leather sets for 1st generation Rivieras are available from Clark's Corvair Parts, but there is nothing available for 2nd, or 3rd generation Rivieras at this time. Please take a few minutes, and express your thoughts on this. Thanks for the read !
  3. ROA classifieds, evilbay, www.v8buick.com, and www.buick.net (parts wanted) are good sources for 'used' parts Rob. I believe www.gmobsolete.com has repro Riviera script, and the correct GS emblems, not sure of the quality, but they are pricey !
  4. Hi Rob, and Welcome ! You mean there's more of us Riviera freaks/fans out there? Always great to have the info, or all the experience you can get when it comes to these cars. The Riviera vacuum systems can be a real PITA to trouble shoot. Appreciate your valuable input, as I'm sure others do, too !
  5. I have the '68 Service Bulletins - I'll check them out, (...Darwin may have already checked this)!
  6. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">For 9000 series, my '68 parts manual lists Grp.2.895 #7800482 - Switch(Delco)Colour Code White, or Green with Hazard warning included. '67/'68 Riviera only, without cornering lamps. </div></div> If you have a cornering lamp switch (- per Darwin's post) Grp.2.895 #5698899 - Switch(BPM)Colour Code Red (with hazard warning switch).
  7. Good eye Dan ! I have never seen a Riviera with those springs (fig. 130-10). It would appear that those springs are to assist the headlights comming down rather than retracting? I assume you tried operating the lights without the springs ? You can check the cannisters using a radiator type pressure checker. The guage will indicate the leakdown rate of the diaphragms, in the vacuum cannisters and give you an idea of the condition. (Ironic - the last pair of 'used' working cannisters I obtained were purchased from Darwin !) All other components, and hoses in the headlight system should be checked, as even the slightest vacuum leak will render the entire system useless. The plastic manifold distribution block on the lower firewall is prone to leaks and cracks from age and stress, you can bypass the manifold to check it's condition. A lot of the non working systems I have checked, failed due to this component. I replaced the stock unit with a non-stock replacement, (GM# 1239606), as originals were unobtanium. The replacement manifold was much more durable, and performed the same function. The vacuum systems in '68/'69 Rivieras can be a very large PITA !
  8. For 9000 series, my '68 parts manual lists Grp.2.895 #7800482 - Switch(Delco)Colour Code White, or Green with Hazard warning included. '67/'68 Riviera only, without cornering lamps.
  9. Got a pic Dan ? I have never seen any springs installed in the headlight pods, nor are they shown in the shop manual (p.130-12/13), but the parts book does call up 2 springs - ( Grp. 2.770 #5957562,'66-'68) which are not shown in any of the parts illustrations?
  10. Not sure about the '70 'Riviera' emblems. If they are similar to the '68/'69 'R' emblems, they are secured by two self-threading steel nuts that mount the 'R' emblems via two large studs on the emblem. These nuts can be accessed by removing the rear interior sail panels, and any other necessary parts. These mounting holes should be sealed when the emblems are re-attached, to prevent water leaks. The 'Riviera' emblem mounting info should be shown in the '70 Fisher Body Manual. Suggest you check that out first - maybe someone with a '70 manual can look up the mounting method for the 'Riviera' vinyl top emblems ?
  11. You are most welcome - anytime Dan. That's part of what this great hobby, and ROA is all about - Sharing the Pride ! Along with a little knowledge, experience and expertise.
  12. While that's a possibility, it's not likely in your particular case Dan. Carter built Rochester Q-jets state that in cast letters at the top of the flat surface just by the vertical part no., in addition to the Rochester Q-jet logo cast on the same surface. (I have one from a '68 Riviera parts car). Your 29240 no. ID came up as - '69 Buick 430 4bbl Automatic, 'all except Riviera, OEM# 7029240. I'm sure a 7029240 kit (if available), will suit your requirements !
  13. Welcome to the ROA forum Jon ! A very nice looking original '68, but you might say I'm a little partial to that particular year ! All the original purchase information/documents are a bonus to have, in addition to the car. Hope you enjoy your new/old Riviera fully this season - won't be long now.
  14. Dan- Your carb is a '69 Buick 430, non Riviera type. Carter manufactured Quadrajet carbs for Rochester, and they used a different numbering system from Rochester. PD is the correct '68 430 engine code, and 048 is the time built code. The ST400 tranny will have a plate attached (passenger side) with a BT--- (3 digit date code). On the firewall Body Number Plate - 09C is the time built code, and EUC------ is the Assembly Plant, and Fisher Body Number. Most of this info is also available in the '68 Buick Shop Manual, if you don't already have one Dan - it is a very good investment, and also a great way to get to know your Riviera !
  15. There were 33,810 '71 Rivieras built, 3,175 of them had the GS option !
  16. Don't worry about it Dan - my original 430 has just a little less time and I put on roughly the same mileage in a season! All 430/455s make noise - especially on startup, but unless your going to to do the 1/4 mile thing, your 430 engine will run just like a Timex watch ! ( It'll take a lickin and just keep on tickin!) Change your oil and filter every year, and enjoy driving it !
  17. If originality is not a concern - my choice would be the 455! It's probably a little better engine, there are more of them, so parts are more plentiful. It will also mate with the ST400 tranny and bolt right into your Riviera without any major modifications.
  18. Jan/Feb Issue of Riview just arrived in the frozen north today ,eh? Great job Ray !
  19. Check my attachment to get an idea of the location Dan. The decal is a repro, but the location is factory original - slightly off kilter, just like the original ! The decal on top of the left inner fender panel is the GM Oshawa 'Oil Decal' found on all Rivieras imported to Canada, (not used on US vehicles), and detailed viscosity recomendations for cold weather (winter) operations. Again the 'off kilter' application is per the factory original. The other decals that are located almost randomly are the GM embossed 'Mark of Excellence' foil labels that attach to the rear flat surface of the doors just above the latch/striker opening. The Jacking instructions decal is located in the upper left corner of the trunk lid - just above the trunk light. (off kilter) The Tire pressure decal goes on the inside of the glove box door, and there is a small Lighter reset decal that sits just below the lighter in the dual ash tray pull out body. Trust this helps !
  20. Hi again Dan - The emission/tune up decal goes on the upper rad support just left of centre if your facing the car, or towards the passenger side of the car, about mid way. Take a look at some evilBay 4 sale pics and that may give you a rough idea. I personaly have never seen a '68 Riv with the emergency head lamp operating instructions, or battery + terminal decal? I would think the most logical location for it would be on the flat surface (drivers side) just above the hood release pull rod ? I purchased one but never did install it. Maybe someone who knows for sure will chime in ! <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
  21. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Ok, this seems like a good place for my first post as a new ROA member. Here's my 72. I'm getting tired of running around making vrrrrooommmm noises though... Gotta start somewhere, right? </div></div> Are you absolutely sure it's not a '71 ? - better check the VIN number ! <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
  22. Thanks Dan - Did a little searching on the internet and 1293s have gone the way of the dinasaurs, 1195s are the current replacement, and your 1156 SC replacement is correct for '68 backup lamps. They run at about 32 CP vs. 50 CP for the 1195s. Sorry for hijacking your original post Dave !
  23. What was the number Dan - can you still get the large #1293 bulbs ? I need to replace one, and my 'spares' are all gone !
  24. Apologies for jumping in on this thread, but most of the electrical gremlins encountered in our 40+ year old cars are the result of age and corrosion, which can result in damaged components or poor ground connections. They were certainly not designed to last forever !
  25. Welcome to our forum Mike and Diane ! - please check out the Riviera Owners Association website at www.rivowners.com , there are quite a few fellow Riviera lovers in Ontario.
