  1. I think that the major reason you don't see many Rivieras at Back to the Fifties is that only 1963 and 1964 models are eligible. Many of us, like both Kevin and myself, don't have cars old enough.
  2. Check with Larry Daisey at ranchoriviera.8m.com. I got a replacement set for my 1965 Riv, sahara mist with saddle standard interior. I was very pleased with the quality, price and service from Larry.
  3. We have a 1930 model 64C in the Gopher State Chapter of the BCA. It is owned by Don Greenberg, and has been a Minnesota car since it was sold new. I'm sure that he would be willing to compare notes with you: Don Greenberg, 2641 S. Lake George Drive, Cedar, MN 55011-9142. Evening phone: 763-753-5259. Weekday phone: 763-689-1222. Don is a GMC dealer, and was an AMC dealer and a Hudson dealer before that.
  4. He's not in your area, but Greg at S & M Electro-Tech, Inc. repaired mine and did a wonderful job. He installed a fuse in the power line so if one of the limit switches fails, the fuse will blow before the motor burns out. He converted a power vent window motor to replace my burned out headlight motor, and it has worked flawlessly for four years. 5. It is my 22 that Tim is working on. We appreciate all of the suggestions. They all are helpful as we have many problems to overcome. Our major problem is that the generator brush isn't lifting when the started pedal is engaged. We haven't been able to determine the mechanical linkage that lifts the generator brush when the started/generator goes into starter mode. When the generator brush is lifted manually the starter spins at normal speed. Unless the brush is lifted manually, the generator mode sucks most of the power and the engine cranks very slowly. The drawings and descriptions in the shop manual and owner's manual leave a lot to be desired.
  6. Derek; Updated count from registration - 844 show cars.
  7. No wonder we had cars parking willy-nilly. The co-chair of parking was goofing off. Thanks for confirming what several of us had suspected, Derek.
  8. Hey, Derek; Thanks for driving down and thanks for the kind words about our show. We never get an exact count because people pay at the gate and never come to the registration tent. We had approximately 722 show cars registered, of which 160 were Buicks! I believe that 160 is a record! Jim Boelter - Ballot Counting Chair
  9. I had a set of road wheels without the ring on my 65. The balancing weights hit the brake backing plates. I was told that they were 71 & up wheels, so I sold them to a boattail owner. It is my understanding that the 65 wheels have the register ring. Patrick, if your wheels don't have the weld marks from the ring being removed, they aren't 65 wheels.
  10. Try Tom Van Meeteren, 11026 E. County Road Y, Valley, NE 68064, 402-359-5762, tsvanmeet@huntel.net He specializes in NOS 1902 - 1950 ignition parts. I got a new cap, rotor and points for my 1922 6-cylinder from him.
  11. Last year I bought a 1922 Model 46 coupe, of which Buick built 2,293. It is unrestored, with a rough interior, no rust or wood rot. It has less than 30,000 acutal miles on it. I paid stupid money for it, but I had owned the car throughout the 1960s and hadn't seen it since 1971. I paid north of $10,000 for it - There aren't any listed in the 1999, 2005 and 2008 membership rosters, so it appears that I have the only one in the club. Buick quit making the Model 46 after 1922 - the model 46 and 48 production in 1922 is just a little larger that the 1923 model 48 production. The 1923 Model 48 is a very rare car, and very difficult to determine value. Good luck if you get it; they are great cars.
  12. Take a look at the data plate on the firewall. A Super is a model 56-S and a Roadmaster is a model 76-S.
  13. Check with your local NAPA. I needed a new cap for my 65 and they had one the next day.
  14. S & M Electro Tech, Inc. has repaired mine, and I am very happy with the quality of the work. They have an ad every month in Hemmings. S & M Electro Tech 8836 Xylite St. NE Blaine, MN 55449 877-780-2861 www.turnswitch.com
  15. A front-page article in the Wall Street Journal from Friday, January 9 profiles Chuck Bidwell, who owns Charles S. Howard's 1932 Buick 7-passenger Sedan (The Seabiscuit car). The car was one of the featured Buicks on display at the 2006 BCA National Meet in Rochester, MN. Chuck has experienced some major financial setbacks at his luxury luggage company. According to the article, "Mr. Bidwell is now trying to sell five of his seven Depression-era Buicks, including the jewel, a 1932 Buick Town Car that could be worth well over a half-million dollars." According to the BCA Membership Directory, Mr. Bidwell also owns a 1932 model 95 7-passenger phaeton, a 1934 model 56-S 4-passenger sport coupe with rumble seat, a 1936 Model 90L Limited 7-passenger limousine, and 1938 model 46C Special 4-passenger convertible coupe with rumble seat, a 1941 model 91 Limited 6-passenger touring sedan and another unspecified 1941 model. The Seabiscuit car is magnificent. It was featured in a two-part article in the August and September 2006 issues of the Bucik Bugle. The August article has a sidebar about Chuck's other cars.
  16. You may have to buy a new distributor cap to get them. Try Tom Van Meeteren, 11026 E. County Road Y, Valley, NE 68064 - (402)359-5762 / tsvanmeet@huntel.net He specializes in NOS ignition parts from 1902 to 1950. I bought distributor parts for my 1922 6-cylinder from Tom.
  17. Dave, I've sent you an email direct. Jim
  18. I got a copy of the original dealer factory invoice for my 1984 Riviera from Allied Vaughn. This is not a copy of the window sticker, but the dealer invoice showing MSRP and dealer cost for all options, shipping dates, and ordering dealer. In September 2007 it cost me $50. Invoices are available for Buicks from 1982. Go to gmmediaarchive.com, and follow the instructions for ordering. They sent me a copy by e-mail and also by snail mail. My car was originally ordered by Royal Buick in Tucson, AZ and shipped to them on 6/1/1984. The car had a base MSRP of $15,967 plus $3,598 in options and $500.00 destination charge for a total MSRP of $20,065. The dealer invoice cost was $17,412.82.
  19. So, where are you going to put it, Kevin?
  20. Is there a good way to remove the ignition switch from the dashboard in a 1922 Model 46? Do the wires have to be disconnected first, or can the switch be removed with the wires attached?
  21. Check with Tom Van Meeteren @ 402-359-5762 or tsvanmeet@huntel.net I got a nos distributor cap and rotor from him for my 1922 six cylinder. He is located in Valley, Nebraska

  25. I put a jumper wire between the tail light housing and the frame, and the lights worked normally. I was going to drop the bumper to solder jumper lines when I had an idea. I removed the jumper wire and had the same old problem. I removed the jumper, and replaced the two 1157 bulbs on the left side with new ones. With two new bulbs and the jumper line removed the turn signals work normally. Don't you just hate it when the easiest fix is the correct one!
