  1. The photo does not show the housing installed and it needs to be. The correct firing order is 1-4-2-6-3-5 get. an. owners. manual. It has more information than you will ever need and shows the marks you use.
  2. Ron, I believe the discs are graphite, I know of no source for them. See my 11/22/13 post for my reasoning for my choice of strap material. GH
  3. Couple of mods. Shipping is now $6.00, and HHFC members go to "parts" on club website. G.H.
  4. One of these just put up for auction , item #181305667497. Gordon
  5. Series 11 and 14 are the same thread 2.75" - 16 "perfect thrds" Gee, $170 for a new one. Maybe I should rent mine for $20 plus postage. Gordon
  6. According to the owner's manual the pressure should be set at 35 lbs at 32 mph with the oil at room temperature. It is not a real high pressure system.
  7. There are four for sale in the latest Service Station
  8. Harry and Durant Unless you have experience in the industrial fabrics manufacturing business, which I do have, you have no concept of what would be required to set up to weave, NOT braid, this type of webbing, The yarns are special, also the looms, and the market is very limited compared to the cost of materials and labor involved. Also the treatment probably used on snubber webbing is so environmentally bad that the millls that used it stopped doing so as the cost of the equipment etc, to meet EPA regs could not be justified. In selling Stabilator straps I ran into this problem back in the '80s. Even now there is no dye house that wants to just dye the Stabilator straps so I had to come up with my own method to make them black.
  9. Does anyone have a sample available of the correct "snubber", NOT Watson Stabilator strap, material? I supply Stabilator straps 1-1/2 wide and would like to compare the material.
  10. "doesn't simply unbolt" most likely because there are no seperate cylinder heads on engines with vertical fins such as a '29 137 would have. If it has horizonal fins it is a later "side draft" engine which would have seperate heads. Which is it? Sounds like this job should be in a new thread.
  11. I think it is a number to identify which body parts are for as they go thru the factory, not the same as the number on the builder's plate on the floorboard inside the drivers door. My 1930 firewall is stamped W141.
  12. S/11 gas gauge was on the tank in the pick up tube Gordon
  13. Just a reminder that these are now available, see post in buy/sell. G.H.
  14. The size is 1-1/2 by 24 inches. Material is closest available modern to the original. Grey color. Check or m.o. for $30 each plus $7 p&h for one to four pieces. Gordon Howard 206 Center Rd, Vernon CT 06066.
  15. I don't know of any of what we now think of as shop manuals for any year of Franklin, which is why the advice available from people such as Tom and Paul is so valueable.
  16. You can get a 135/137 owoners manual from the Club librarian for $36 +postage. There is no separate "service manual". Ask about a parts book as you should have both.
  17. I would be very leery of using a product designed for vinyl on rubber. If not option C or D above, look at Miller Tire black tire paint. Have you tried a good cleaner on the top? Once you start with something there is no going back. If you spray you will have to do extensive masking. Gordon Howard
  18. :)These are again available for Series 10,11and 12 Franklins. Same basic material as I have supplied previously but surface treatment now is a grey color. Use contact info in your Franklin Register and send car serial number. Gordon Howard
  19. Is there builder's plate under the carpet in front of the driver's seat? What is the serial number? The suffix will tell the body style or the builder if it is a custom. Gordon Howard

    Electrical problems

You have a starter switch on the dash, so this must be wired to a relay near the starter. See if there is a wire on the battery side of the relay terminals that goes to the ammeter. Other Franklins are wired this way using the foot board starter button. Check that all connections are clean and tight. Gordon Howard
  21. Dang! why did they do that? Years before and after are on the left.
  22. It should be on the engine side of the firewall above the steering column
  23. There is a golf bag door lock on ebay right now. Claims for several makes. I did not read the auction page itself.
  24. You can't make the mounting too secure. Back in the day, when I was running a VW bug in local sportscar club rallies, gymkhanas and hill climbs I had to add a seat belt to pass the technical inspection. I had a steel plate, probably 3 or 4" wide by 1/8 or more thick running across under the sheet metal floorpan with the mounting bolts through it. No way was I going to rely on the sheet metal and washers. Inspectors said it was the best install they had seen. If you can't anchor to heavy metal then spread the load over a large area.
  25. Made it more complicated? Not at all. An excellent explaination all in one place, just what we need in many situations. Gordon
