    SOLD

The correct factory name for this body style is "Sport Sedan".
  2. As I wrote above it is a "support clip". Look at the parts book, pages 1004 and 5. That goes on first, on top of it is ref #R-3890 "driving spring lock" then the screw. The lock washer has two tabs one up and one down to lock the screw. I think the clip is to give the lock washer and screw a flat base. If you don't use them or at least the lock washer the spring may bottom out and never hold the spring tightly. I would never want a bolt or screw to bottom out when tightened down. They don't build stuff with unneeded parts.

    Oils

The viscosity of #600 cylinder oil is similar to everyday SAE 140 gear oil. They are not rated on the same scale. Years ago Chape Condit, who was a Franklin engineer and then a field factory service engineer for Sunoco recommended using a modern 85W-140 oil which is what I have used my 147 3 speed for decades. The thing to watch for is that the label says it is safe to use with yellow metals, bronze and brass. Modern additives without protection for yellow metals can attack them. I have no problem shifting when the tranny is cold and when warmed up can easily shift between 2nd and 3rd without using the clutch. Technique is super important with these crash boxes. Lubriplate is good source for safe lubricants. I used their straight 140 in my Series 11. Gordon Howard

    1927 Franklin Coupe

Go to www.franklincar.org and start there. If you do not have one, buy an owners manual, and do post your location, there are owners in every state who can help you. There is a number of things you want to do if the car hasn't been run for a long time. Gordon Howard
  14. Scott, there is one 11-B convertible listed in the Register. A very rare body style. Gordon
  15. Did you do the other part of the procedure ---setting the intake valve at .036" clearance and then checking the marks at the fan? Gordon Howard
  16. If you have not yet found one, there is a Series11B "engine" on eBay auction #262215284459. The crankcase should be fine for an 11A. Gordon Howard
  17. The felt washer you refer to (p/n 46X123), which is not shown or listed in the parts book is a dust shield. The actual oil seal is an acme thread on the bore of the p/n 87934 "cheek piece assembly". The threads neeed to be clean and if they are will work fine to return oil to the crankcase. Gordon Howard
  18. These 3 photos show 4 Franklins behind what I believe is the Hotel Syracuse parking garage. I can identify Stan Wilkinson in his 1905 and Earl Buchman and I think Hank Manwell in Earl's 1905. The other cars are Series 9. Can anyone identify the drivers? eBay auction is 361442113575. Gordon Howard
  19. It is what it is and it ain't what it ain't There's many a wreck 'neath a good coat of paint.

    HERSHEY!!!

Watson Stabilators-----They are position specific. You can't use a right front on the left front.because the mounting brackets are not the same. I THINK the right front and the left rear are the same, and the left front and right rear are the same. Gordon Howard
  22. Are all your springs like this one, with a ring on one end? The originals have a hook on both ends. I can probably come up with one of those. Gordon Howard
  23. For gaskets contact Jeff Hasslen.
  24. The knob when pulled out with the cord extended locks the cord at that length. As I remember it has nothing to do with the domelight. Have you no switch on the B pillar? The other function is to have the unit serve as a trouble light by unscrewing the lighter and replacing it with the lamp unit stored on the bracket up at the firewall. Do you have the lamp?
