’72GS … Looking for help decoding a paint code?
dkbuick75 replied to Rivman's topic in Buick Riviera
Randall, Sweet lookin' Boat-tail. Not sure of the "exact" color name or if number is correct, but in my past (72-73) was looking at a 69 Pontiac Grand Prix SJ in the same color configuration. I absolutely fell in love with the color, but there were front susp issues & problems that the dealer was not willing to fix before I purchased it. -- He was willing to repair for cost after I purchased-- I walked way from it, as I also had a Burgundy Mist 69 Riviera, white vinyl top and & pearl white int that was in my sights at another dealer--- I opted to buy the Riv, and the rest ,as they say is history and my first foray and love with Rivieras. I look back and actually thank the Pontiac dealer for being so stubborn over the GP's susp repairs. Things could have turned out alot different and I may have never known about the ROA & met so many wonderful people involved with Buicks & Riv's. Any way back to the color-- you may want to check some chips of earlier years-- I did run into a 70 Riv in this color combo last year at one of our local Buick shows--- Hope this helps. -
As an Ins Damage appraiser I see these all too often. Four words of advice---- Run away, run away !!!!!

Be careful not to OVER- tighten the latches- as this will increase the pressure on the ends and let the cntr of the frt bow lift, causing a worse leak. With the car being a 75 and for all accounts 36 yrs old--- you may still need to replace the bow seal if it is the original--- What we all forget --- is we do not drive our convertibles like new cars on a daily basis where we are continually putting the top up and down-- there-by releasing the pressue on the frt moulding--- most of us leave the tops up & SECURED while not driving and especially those of us that put them way for the 5-6 months of @#&**# weather known as winter-- this constant pressure on the seal causes them to flatten out-especially as they age- even marginally will allow air to get in between the seal and the w/shld frame. I Never lock the top down while it is in the up position in winter storage or any length of time sitting in the garage thru the summer months--I usually position the top handles so that the latch ends just set into the locking holes, to hold the top in place, but not flatten the moulding. I have had my 75 since new and have only put 2 frt seals on in that time. 1 after finding the original flattened & dried out from age and longtime winter storage (around 10 yrs old) and the 2nd is still on the car after 20 yrs and still functioning perfectly--- another thing that helps and we all forget-- apply a generous spraying of WD-40 or Silicone spray on ALL your weatherstripping at least once a year. This helps to penetrate the rubber and keep it soft & supple. I usually spray and wipe them down each season--in Spring, coming out from winter storage and right before putting the car up for winter, from being abused by the summer sun & heat. I have only replaced the enrire set of weather seals once on the entire car in since new. As always - a little bit of preventive maintenance goes a long way.

I got the same threat from wife #1 over 20 years ago!!! NOTICE, I said Wife # 1. I have now owned my 75 for just over 35 years. Maintenance, I figure, half or less of what I would have wound up spending on wife 1; Christmas, b-days, etc---- Also no back talk, B.S. or whining from the 75. Just fresh oil a couple times a year, and stops for "go juice" when she gets thirsty, and she stays happy taking me wherever I want to go. Wife # 2 enjoys the smooth ride & comfort when She gets the opportunity to drive. And normally She does not like driving "big" cars. I know I would really have regretted selling the 75. There's plenty of "fish" in the pond.

I was Co-chair on this show. Don't know that anyone forgot to inform Caddy club--- All I know is I put show notices up on all the included Marquee sites-- there were less than 100 hits on the Cadillac & Allante sites combined. We have a couple of Cadillac members in the Chicagoland BCA chapter, including their current President, so Caddy knew about the show-- Where they were is anybody's guess--- They missed a nice show

Rick Congrats on the new aquasition !! looks very nice!! You'll find the car very happy & enjoyable to drive on long road trips on the highway. Extremely comfortable at highway speeds. Just watch yourself--- the horses have a tendency to want to stretch their legs at highway speeds--- you think your sprinting around 70 and look down at the speedo and easily find it around 80+. Have had mine since "New" -- May 1975, and still find it a dream to drive cross country---- 18 straight hours behind the wheel last year from Chicago to Colorado Springs and the same on the return trip--- and a very enjoyable 5-6 hr drive this year to Ames & home, with the top down. Good Luck with yours and enjoy !!

Recieved mine also Rick-- thank you very much !! Was a great National and your timing for it proved to be spot on !!!
