I was under the delusion that yes, it could be done in a day... sadly mistaken I see! <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" /> Hope we don't run into any big surprises once we start! Us Southern Ohio Packard folks have to stick together, so your membership in the Clipped Cormorants is still valid! <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> </div></div> I'm allowing a month for putting my wiring harness in. Teh car should be back from the upholstery shop by the end of this month and the chrome right afterwards. The nice thing about the rain in Oregon is that we're in no rush until the rains leave here in May. I may be slow but I'm good <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
  2. Steve's Auto Restoration does resilvering.
  3. That same guy who takes 30 minutes to tell you his story must be traveling around the country. After about 5 minutes I find that I need to polish something or good look at something else and leave. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
  4. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Happy New Year to all my fellow Packard owners ! I need a new set of tires for my 1932 902 Victoria Coupe. A set of Bedfords from the previous owner are on now but they are highly out of round, both side to side and up and down. (Rims are OK). They look great but are not good for driving. Coker offers Firestone in 700 x 19" as well as Excelsior in 700 x 19". Firestones are $143. The Excelsiors are $386 !! Of course the Excelsiors look alot better, but are they worth the extra money? Are they a better tire? For instance, I have Lesters on my 1926 236 Phaeton (700 x 21). They look awful but more importantly, they wore out uniformly and completely in about 12,000 miles. Others have reported similarly poor wear on Lesters. I won't buy them again. If the Excelsiors will last least twice as long as the Firestones, they are worth the price. I also need the tires to be high quality, ie: ROUND !! Thanks for the advice. --Scott </div></div> Are you sure its the tire that is out of round? The Bedfords were highly recommended tire when I was looking for replacements for my 903. My problem is the rims need truing.
  5. 1. Replace turn signal switch in steering column on 64 Bird so everyone can stop telling me the taillight is out. Completed today. Is taht cheating as it's still 2006. 2. Attend Packard International meet in Feb in Orange County 3. Completed interior restoration of 32 Packard. Target date completion is May 4. Participate in Forest Grove Concours in July 5. Next day particpate in the 1500 mile Cruise Oregon which will be going to Couer d'Lane this year. 6. Drive to Hot August Nights from Oregon 7. Drive the cars every week when I'm not doing the above.
  6. Going to my first Packard meet in Feb in Orange, CA. Going without my car mostly because it's in the middle of a winter project. Did get good news from the guy doing my gauges...he's starting on them. Took 2 months for him to get to this point. He's going to be the long pole in the tent as everything except the guages should e back by the end of Jan. He's good but backlogged. Was wondering if anyone was going to the meet from this forum?

  8. Here's a picture from a 36 standard 8 which looks close to what you have posted.
  9. I drive my 32 Pckard Coupe Roadster and 64 Tbird for casual drives and also to cruise ins. The Bird is the long distance traveler. I do my restoration work in the winter so that I can drive them in the nice weather. Combined I drive them probably at least 3K miles. This year the Bird will be going to Couer d'Alene on a 1200 mile Cruise Oregon trip with about 150 other classic cars, and then I will go about 1600 miles round trip to Hot August Nights. I do get a lot of looks with the Packard including the usual question of where did you parlk the trailer. My thoughts is that I own them to drive them.
  10. Rick I do know that windshield wipers were standard 3 years later on 32s.
  11. Just got my 32 Packard wheel redone by this guy. Has my dash now for woodgraining. STEERING wheels painted any color, $125; woodgrain wheels, $150; cracks, nicks and repairs extra. Lauren Matley, 253-350-3604, WA; fixold@hotmail.com
  12. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Ken, I am not sure how high the ceiling is but I would have a problem with the garage door opener it is right above the roof of the car. I am curious how much area is needed on the side of the car for the lift? </div></div> I also have a problem with about a 1' beam which actually reduces the height even further. I can with the T-Bird sit in an office cahir with no issue, but my Packard is much tighter. The typical 4 post is about 9' wide.
  13. Well as you all know I got my 32 Packard last January. Last week I was elected (or maybe more like selected) Vice President of the PI Oregon Region club for 2007. Now I guess I need to act respectable <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> So to celebrate I was going to change my wheels to look like Clark Gable's!

  15. West, Exchanged emails with Mark and he said he look for me. I also have another guy from Missouri who's mailing pictues today of an original door panel. He was very nice person. He had just moved and couldn't find his original photos that he had promised he would send. So he took pictures today, had them developed and is sending them today. He called to let me know what he had done. I consider that a very nice gesture which I shall try to repay.
  16. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">I've been through the Detroit Library's Packard files and they are full of original factory photographs of interiors. Although they charge between $24-40 to have a photo reproduced, sometimes it's worth it to see the original detail in the dashboards, seats, and door panels. Most are clear, crisp shots that allow you to see whether something was high gloss, satin, or flat (or even wrinkle finish). </div></div> Is that something you can access online?
  17. Looking for a picture of a 32 coupe roadster original door panels. I've seen them various ways and can't figure out which is correct.
  18. Does anyone know if someone makes a replacement headlight connector for a 32? This is the connector at the base of the headlight which allows you to disconnect the headlight from the wire harness. Looks like the contacts are spring loaded. One of my sockets doesn't appear to have any spring action on the contacts. I know one restore you just wires directly into the headlight without a connector. I was thinking of removing the socket and using a off the shelf socket which I would hold in the base of the headlight by the use of a rubber grommet which would also act as a strain relief.
  19. Thanks, that's great infomation. It's nice to have a unmolested models to go by. I've been talking with some owners of 32 models like mine who will be sending me some pictures of the door panels and dash to help me out. I have a 32 903 coupe roadster. 142" WB.
  20. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Bracket, outer (rear) sleeve and other attaching hardware is painted gloss black, the shaft itself is unplated and unpainted. The knob should be chrome though I've heard some of the early ones were nickel plated. </div></div> Owen, Thanks. What about other brackets (like glove box brackets) under the dash. They look like they should be black gloss also. Are all bolts painted or should they be black oxide?
  21. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Tbirdman,May I suggest that you post your email address in your profile. That way some people could email you directly with answers for some of your questions. Just a thought, but someone mentioned he would rather email than post here - strictly a personal opinion. </div></div> I've added my email to my profile. Thanks for the feedback.
  22. Trying to figure out the correct paint for the black brackets under the dash and the ride adjustment rod. Looks like a gloss black. Can anyone confirm? I also was going to black oxide the bolts. Also the ride control handle did not look it was painted up to the knob. Should any part of that rod be be plated? Thansk for the help. I'm trying to do this as close to original as possible.
  23. Well went to the upholstery shop today. They had sewn up three seat panels in dark red, dark green and tan. The red really stood stood out. The tan made no statement if you know what I mean. So I will be going with red leather interior. They actually did a little taste test not on purpose though. But all the visitors to their shop pick the red leather.
  24. Thanks I did more more research on Paul's. Seems like a very good reputation. So my precious parts went off him this morning by UPS insured for big bucks <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
  25. Friartuck... The engraving was mentioned in my conversation with them without me bring it up. That impressed me that they had the knowledge how to do it correctly. I also got confirmation from a nother source that the latch mechanism was all chrome plated. I'm assuming that I should should get a new spring instead of trying to get the spring plated. Your thoughts? Thanks for your help.
