  1. I find myself in the market for a '62 dealer promo. All of the ones I have seen on that popular auction site have a friction motor up front where the facsimile of the engine should be. I referred to an old copy of Collectible Automobile which featured these cars, and the scale model section refers to dealer promos and toy store frictions. Does anyone know if the dealer promos came with friction motors, too?
  2. O'Hara Motors was a Lincoln Mercury dealer located at 1 Ocean Avenue in New London, CT - at least they were in 1949... https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/445762136/
  3. I changed my cable 15 years ago when I installed the cruise control. I recall it being a b*tch. I think it runs through that part of the cowl that mounts the mounts the body to the frame. It's kind of a blind spot. I'm guessing I tied a string to it before I removed it. Wish I could be of more help.
  4. June Speedster just arrived. Lo and behold - everything is fine this month. I did notice there is no eBay link in the Library section...
  5. Um, that's where the thermostat and engine coolant temperature sensor are located...
  6. Another unreadable Speedster. I forwarded it to an IT friend of mine and he had problems viewing it as well. I asked him to come here and read this thread and here is what he emailed to me.... I read the post. I don't think it is a setting. The massive ebay font is causing the rest of the message to resize proportionally. If you look at the html source of the email and search for "ebay" you'll find this: ">Click Here</a> to Shop <u></u><u></u></span></b></p><p class="MsoNormal" align="center" style="text-align:center"><b><span style="font-size:1638.0pt;font-family:&quot;Arial&quot;,sans-serif;color:#333333">With Us on eBay<u></u><u></u></span></b> Notice the 1638pt font size, that's the problem! I have no idea why no one else is seeing it. Thoughts???
  7. Thanks for the suggestions. I will work on them. I will say this - Verizon webmail is now handled through aol. I displayed the email on the aol mail site and it appeared fine. I also forwarded it to a yahoo account and viewed it online and it was much worse.
  8. Also, here is the April issue that I received from AACA... and here is the email that I received from Steve... If someone could enlighten me as to what settings may need to be changed, I'd be most appreciative. Paul
  9. Matt, Here's what I don't understand. This problem started back in September. I can view the August (and previous) issues just fine. Everything since September is a problem. If it was a setting issue, I'd think all the issues would display the same. It's like something changed in September. Plus, this is with two different computers, two different providers, two different operating systems - work and home. Earlier today Steve Moskowitz forwarded a copy of the April issue to me, and it displays fine, the one I received directly from AACA does not. Here is a screen shot of the August issue, which looks normal. Notice it is centered with no scroll bar at the bottom. Here is a screen shot of the September issue. Notice it is left justified and has a scroll bar at the bottom. The line that appears above the Speedster is just a dot. Here is a screen shot showing one of the gigantic letters having to do with the ebay link for the library. But it is not a link that can be clicked, it is just text and it is huge!
  10. Does anyone else have an issue with Speedster? Mine arrives in my inbox with a HUGE font that has something to do with eBay. It skews the entire publication on my screen and makes it inconvenient to read. Opening it in a web browser is no better. I've emailed the Speedster people and Steve Moskowitz but didn't get a reply, and nothing has changed. Is this an issue that only I am having? Paul
  11. I can tell you that the LHD part number for that cable, from the 1948 parts book, is 411641 (sold for $1.75). No specs given. Listed for 1939 only. The gentleman I would refer you to passed away a few years ago. His family is selling his parts inventory, but they want to sell it as a lot, not piece by piece. Paul
  12. As of September of '17, the chrome isn't as nice as it is in his ad pics... https://www.google.com/maps/place/9th+St+NE+%26+Massachusetts+Ave+NE,+Washington,+DC+20002/@38.8909357,-76.993424,3a,75y,184.91h,72.5t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1skiI4x0RrOyQgRyXtlGMFxg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!4m5!3m4!1s0x89b7b830a81dc157:0xfc319e310dd4f219!8m2!3d38.8912375!4d-76.9937652 I wonder how old those pics are? I can hardly believe the chrome got better looking with age. The car's been sitting in that spot since at least October of '16. I can't believe it hasn't been impounded yet.
  13. The wheel cover and spinner should be the same, but he center emblem is probably different.
  14. My '51 rear fenders do not bolt on. They are part of the stamped 1/4 panel.
  15. I believe the 98 had a longer wheelbase than the 88, as well as a longer trunk section.
  16. I wonder if the tube is gummed up, allowing oil to show on the stick where it shouldn't. Maybe the tube needs to be removed and cleaned out?
  17. I believe the fluid coupling can be drained - otherwise you'd have a heck of mess when unbolting the torus cover from the flywheel (for transmission removal). I could be wrong on that. My experience with that Hydra-Matic was at least 25 years ago.
  18. Nice... I might recommend that you join our club. Phil Fischer, our model year adviser is an expert on these.
  19. Is it possible that you are having trouble reading the oil level because it is already over-full? I think I'd drain it, fill with the capacity called for, and then check and see what you get.
  20. Sign on the front says "Mercury Motors" with an Indian head in between. At least I think it says Mercury - don't know what else it would be...
  21. I learned today that the gentleman in our club recreating the F-88 passed away in April 2018. The car has been sold to another party.
  22. Shield, rear fender gravel - rubber covered: 1940 - 90, RH - 1314346 1940 - 90, LH - 1314347 They also list a guard, body stone 1940 - 90, RH - 1315538 1940 - 90, LH - 1315539 Not sure what that latter part is - I can't find an illustration of it.
  23. I've got a '48 parts book. I might be able to look up part numbers, if I can remember. 2 door or 4 door? Maybe it doesn't make a difference...
  24. I think there is a line coming of the carburetor that runs to a tee. One of the tees runs to the wipers, the other end runs to the vacuum pump on top of the fuel pump. Theoretically, when the engine lacks vacuum, the vacuum pump is supposed to compensate.
  25. Because they want to keep selling new tires. My work involves procuring tires. Some of the ones we get from the supplier are 2-3 years old. Sometime we'll put a tire on a newer car that is older than the car and the tire we had to take off. We've got tires on display in the waiting area that have three different colored stickers on them from the past three annual inventories.
