  1. Eric, To answer your question; I only had a bill of sale & no title. The inspection was required to get only a provisional title that allowed me to license the vehicle.
  2. My favorite cars are the ones with good stories to tell... I guess that's why my favorites are the ones I have restored because I know more details about their restoration and how each car is put together. So I really like the ones I have restored myself. My most recent favorite is a 24 Buick PU that I picked up in Iowa. I got it running at the Buick National in MN just in time for the first PWD AfterTour. Even though I didn't do the restoration, it has provided great stories to tell about how I got it, fixed it, drove it and trailered it from Iowa to Vancouver WA for a friend who bought it on Ebay. A year later I bought it from him and drove it again from Vancouver WA to the BCA National in Bellevue WA. with one of my Buick buddies who helped me fix it at the BCA National in MN. I expect my 15 Buick speedster (The yellow & black BumbleBuick) will become my newest favorite when it is finished. I must agree that a true collector cannot have just one favorite....

  4. I have used Texaco Thuban & Shell Dentax SAE 250 lubes in my cars for both transmission and rear end lube.
  5. All good tips.... The problem is that some of us just get caught up in the moment and don't take time to consider these tips...
  6. I got it..... It's a "House-cat" backing up and a "Cat-house" going forward...
  7. Vehicle inspection and licensing experiences vary with the individuals involved. I had a problem just before the BCA National Meet this year trying to get my 24 Buick PU inspected & licensed in Washington State. The inspection department is understaffed due to budget cuts & I had to wait for an appointment for several weeks to trailer my Buick to the inspection station in Vancouver, WA. The day before my appointment, I got a voice mail message that my appointment had been re-scheduled for two weeks after the BCA Meet. I could have just put a plate on the PU from one of my other cars, but if I got in an accident during the PWD Pre-Tour or AfterTour, I would be in hot soup! I called and went through multiple voice mail boxes to finally get someone with a heartbeat. She was a DMV clerk that the inspection department "borrowed" to reschedule appointments because the local inspector was out sick. I explained my situation and she worked hard to help me get an applintment with another inspector in Longview WA., but I had to load up my Buick and be there within an hour. I just made it, but the inspector was rather grumpy and over my objections, didn't accept the riveted nameplate on the frame, & refused to issue the paperwork I needed to license my Buick. I drove home, researched and called the WA State Patrol which administers the inspection department and eventually talked to the lutenant in charge of the State Inspection Department. He was very cordial on the phone and agreed to research the basis for the inspector's refusal. I also sent him a link to The Old Buick Archive so he could verify his records. http://members.aol.com/buickohv/ars.htm He called back the next day and advised me that he spoke with the inspector and I could pick up my paperwork from that inspector that day. He also added the archive to the WA State database for future reference, & asked if I would be interested in taking a pay cut to become a part time inspector for antique vehicles. I said I would be glad to contact him when I retire. It was a bit of a hassle, but all is well that ends well; Now, I am really looking forward to retirement....
  8. I am in SLC this week on business and MN next week. I guess I am just a glutton for cold just before Christmas. I am glad to see Brian got us all set for insurance and is on tract to get the registration form added to this thread. Merry Christmas......
  9. I can see both sides here, but I really don't think we should get too upset about it. I am a Viet Nam era veteran and lots of folks don't want to remember that war. Maybe we should preface our posts with something about how wer'e glad we have post-war Buicks because our vetrans and allies won WWII! Otherwise, what would we call the Buick PreWar Division? Pre-Far-fig-nuten? Pre-Damler? Pre-Mercedes? Pre-Porche?
  10. Derek, Glad to see you re-arranged your priorities to get started on this car. Please feel free to ask questions during your restoration. My 29-116 series sedan was my first real restoration project and I will be more than glad to share some information, sources, etc. Here is a shot of the car that now belongs to my son.
  11. Sometimes the re-classification of the item as "machinery" or "fabricated steel parts" may get you a lower rate with a freight company.
  12. Sure you are welcome! We had a couple of modified Buicks on the last AfterTour. My 24 PU truck is modified, and we had a yellow hot rod Buick which was the only car with an overheating/starter problem.... (He didn't have a Buick engine)
  13. Welcome to the group...& enjoy the ride. My reference book makes that Conv.Coupe a 46C, but all the weights are the same as Fr Mike indicated. Stay tuned for others to chime in on colors etc.
  14. I already sent the Ebay link to Dave Corbin. I am sure he will encourage a BCA member to get this car. But, the $30K listing seems a bit high for it's current condition.
  15. Chuck, I too have a Bend Pac (the smallest four post $2K). Buy only a certified unit for safety. Regardless of where they are made, I think they all have to meet these requirements. If you only go up and down a few times each year, you really don't need much more than a $2K unit. I use it to store one up and two under, and for routine maintenance on four cars. If you have several cars and do your own maintenance, you may want to consider a heavier duty model.
  16. Try a search on this site for lugs, wheel clamps, wedges, etc. You will find lots of info.

  18. How do you like this one Dave? It's a bargan at $15K I already have the oak to replace the side boards.

29 Buick has two different sized parts.
  20. The Michigan Automobile & Carriage Companies started in 1903 and continued through 1913 located in Detroit, Niles, & Jefferson Michigan. They made 1, 2, & 4 cylinder cars and steam powered trucks. This item may be from a Michigan engine.
  21. Coalter, I have one for a model 57, but I don't know if they are the same size. Send me some measurements & I will check. I don't frequent this part of the site often so please send directly to: durcodude@comcast.net
  22. Lots of good advice here.... One more thing to check is the pot metal top of the vacuum tank. Very small (hard to see) cracks may leak air. Simply coat the inside of the lid with gas compatable sealant (Crazy Glue works). Also, make sure all the fuel lines are sealed and the gas tank is vented.
