  1. Sunday was one of those family / memory days. My Mom asked us all to come 'Home' for a dinner of ribs she wanted to do for us and decided to drive the Special. The reason for that was to recreate a picture that Mom had taken back in August 1984. While just about in the same spot..... Being some 33 years later..... I had to take a good look at this and ask myself, Who is that "Old Fart" behind the wheel? (meanwhile the car looks about the same....)
  2. Yes, needs an bit more trimming to fit in that glass, one of three I had on the shelf, to make it appear more real? However, I actually did experience the A&W Drive-In's with this car!
  3. Not to high jack Ben's thread but.... All in good time, all in good time.
  4. Safe travels Ben and keep us posted on your progress at school and of course your car. With your talent and new connections at school I'll bet 'should' something happen to the car, you will get lots of offers to help with her. I have been fascinated with my sons education who will be finished the end of this month getting his Masters in Mechanical Engineering. I will miss our conversations once he moves out and on to a new job and is hopefully going to announce an official engagement which means moving on with his life (all of which I'm very happy for). I will soon know of the emotional feelings you are experiencing only from the parental side. Wishing only good things for you. Doug
  5. I guess the holes here and there are a dead give-a-way.
  6. Funny coincidence regarding your brake lights, mine quit yesterday too... Was almost home and saw a new Charger (or something) coming up behind me and knowing I was going to pull into my driveway shortly up ahead, turned on my signal and stopped by the curb to let him go by. This late twenty year old slowed up beside me with the passenger window down and said with a scowl, "You know you have no brake lights on that THING right?" Told him they were working when I left but would check the fuse. He responded in that same tone, "Thought you needed a heads up" and proceeded to blast on up to the stop sign.... Sorry for the inconvenience, but glad you were paying attention.
  7. Now, that dynaflow has to be in tip top condition to be towing that size rig!
  8. I agree with you there! That's why it isn't sitting on my shelf. But it is indeed nice condition for a tin toy.
  9. Did not drive very far today, only from the storage garage to home and place my new accessory for a shot.
  10. Just need a young girl in a white poodle skirt on rollers skates to complete the shot!
  11. I brought the Special home to clean up the white walls on the passenger side (hugged a curb....) and shot some pictures of my new accessory.
  12. Beautiful Car sir! I was at a Swap Meet yesterday here in Ontario and there happened to be a '40 Ford convertible coupe (correct term?) for sale in the Car coral. It was restored and appeared to be in similar condition as yours. The sign said 62,000 (cdn funds). Ithad a black body (perfectly straight) with black top and a correct pattern (I think) brown interior. Wish I had taken pictures. Love the lines! Have fun with yours.
  13. While not a Buick (or a real rig) thought of you MrEarl while at a recent Swap Meet.
  14. Went to a Swap Meet in Bothwell, Ontario yesterday with three other car guys and because it was about a 175 mile round trip decided not to drive the Special (this time). It was a good thing too as it rained off and on most of the day and hard at times too! Hard to view parts covered over for protection from the rain but some were smart by using clear plastic which offered some chance at seeing what they had for sale. There is always a car coral and deserves time to see what is available. This was the only Buick but a nice one too being an Electra. My son might like to look at this one which appeared rather nice and not bad priced at $4,200 or best offer (but I didn't look underneath or hear it running). There was nothing there '58 Buick specific but did see an pair of '57 tail lights complete but with slightly pitted housings which are not often seen. I did pick up something of a detailing item for mine which I will post later but liked this (did not buy it @ $160.00). There is a car show on Saturday which will get about 1,200 cars and trucks and has a 50/50 that usually builds to around 20,000 (Not a typo!) each way! Will make it next year with the Special for sure.
  15. You are trying to preach to the choir with me Leon. If you are currently working on her to bring it back, I would love to see pictures of her "in the action days" if you have them, especially a side shot.
  16. Our friends came with us to an art show and their grandchildren came out later obviously with their parents so I knew them. Both the parents and the kids grandparents told them to be careful while in the car and they were but the smile on their faces about says it all. The big difference for me is that I don't have tens of thousands of dollars invested in restoring my car and heaven for bid a scratch or a bit of a scuff in the upholstery happens, well, she is already a well worn automobile. Not saying I don't care but know even just moving it around in the garage things can and do happen. Respect by the public is the key and there will always be the lack of it now and again.....
  17. Just got back from the Wednesday night Cruise in. Round trip was 20 miles by the trip odometer. Parked by a nice Skylark I had not seen before.
  18. Took a chance on the battery tonight. Every Wednesday there is a Cruise-In on the other side of Town and since I have not been out for awhile thought it was a good time to go even though a bit late. Even though it started to get dark enough I needed the headlights on for the trip home, the ammeter would show a bit of charge when driving but discharge slightly at idle so.... will change out the voltage regulator next and see if there is a difference. By the time I got back I noticed a rattle just before I shut her off in the garage. Sounds like it is coming from the power steering pump.... Who was it here in the Forums that said, "Drive them, fix them, then Drive them"?
  19. This was the hitch on the Canada Coasters Car Club I posted on another thread, specifically this '54. I had taken these shots with you in mind MrEarl.
  20. Dale, I have a new trickle charger on too which like you say keeps the battery up, but every now and then when I don't put it on after putting her away, that is when the battery starts to go flat so thinking it is time for a new one. For the heck of it I'm going to change out the voltage regulator with a new one I have on the shelf and see if I possibly have an issue there since it will discharge slightly when at idle. Heck, it's only 45 years old on the car to me....
  21. Mission: Purchase a new battery this week as it will take a charge but sitting for about a week disconnected by the battery disconnect switch, barely has enough power to roll the engine a few times and then it dies. With the Woodward Cruise coming up and a few pre-cruise events locally, need to be ready to roll without needing to be boosted.
  22. Sweet! You must have more pictures of her don't you?
  23. Ben, I know enough to leave the wife's stuff alone. I just went to one of our many $1 Stores and bought the smallest one I could find. I can still use it for small parts. I cut it in such a way the lid will still go on. It just has a round hole in the top.
  24. SHHHHH! My wife has already had a conversation with my neighbour who is in construction and has two bins and told her to just let him know.... You know that saying, One mans junk.......
