  1. I bet JD could Kiss you for that remark Mr. Earl! Dandy Dave!

LOL... I'm sure glad you didn't say JD WOULD kiss you for this, cause I'm saving my 5600 kisses for the ladies...

  2. from the 'hamb':o (is there a '54 in that pile? I don't think so!)

Don't see a 54 but did see a 55, a 57 with what appears to be good rear bumper ends, and two 58's. It's pile like this that have made our cars worth so much more! Cool pics MrSpeedyT

  3. This sounds like contaminated gas symptoms. Is it possible the tank was left lowere than half tank for a period of time with wide temperature swings? If so you may have condensation inside the tank and pulled some water into the carb. This likely confused the oxygen sensor.

Had this issue last week with my work truck. Ran good to the first stop then the check engine light came on and the vehicle would not respond to the accelerator pedal at all. Granted this is an 07 truck with major programing differences, however, after two restarts the gas pedal worked again, and I was able to drive to my next two stops ( approx 20 miles and 30 minutes). After the third stop the check engine light went off and the truck has run correctly for the last three days.

You may want to try some gas additives, dry gas for the water and some marvel mystery oil in the gas for some topside lubrication. These are no garantee fix but an inexpensive attempt which can't really hurt.

  4. if my body was a car, I would be thinking of trading it in for a newer model. I've got bumps, dents, scratches and my paint job is getting dull. My headlights are out of focus. My traction is not as graceful as it once was. My whitewalls are stained with varicose veins. It takes me hours to reach maximum speed. But the worst is...every time I sneeze, cough, or sputter either my radiator leaks or my exhaust backfires!

    Thanks to Larry for this....

Dents and scratches??? Hmmmmnnnn You been hanging around tools again? LOL

  5. If you're not in love with it, will you ever drive it considering the nice stable of cars you already have? Look, I love the 69's but if you don't love it, then thats a lot of money. I would predict you will come to love the car, once you get past using high test gas and retarding the timing so as to eliminate acceleration knock. With 10.25 - 1 compression ratio you will find you have to do this or the knock will be very annoying. Even with doing this you will find the engine building carbon in the cylinders unless you run the car to operating temp and then get it out on the highway for periodic runs.

BTW, what options does the car have? Power seat? Windows? AM/ FM? Tilt wheel? Disc Brakes?

  6. I was thinking the same thing. Quick (while he won't respond) somebody bring up the fact that 55's were nicer cars. Oops, just did!

    ;)

Oh oh oh!! Cheap shots indeed. But funny too. Don't worry Mr. E. 56's are better than 55's. LOL...

(yes, guys, I own a Rambler)

    QUOTE]

Oohhhh a Rambler... LOL.. Actually, there is a fellow local to me who has a 60? Rambler Ambassador with a factory 4 speed, dual shifter car with overdrive. Quite sweet! Gotta look and see if I have a picture.

  8. Also check your timing and integrity of your vacuum system. Vacuum leaks in the wipers will impact your timing. Since you are overheating without driving the car I would pull the main vacuum hose to your wipers and stick a golf tee in it to plug it and then test the overheating situation.

  9. Actually it is kind of nice. When I’m in the bathroom (Reading the Bugle with the vent fan on) I can smell my Buick in the garage. Now what could possibly be wrong with that? Mud

We run our furnace fan continuously. So earlier I did not think of the consequences of having the furnace fan cycle and thereby allowing garage fumes to penetrate the air duct system. Guess it's a good thing my system is separate from the garage.

  10. A core is not just a core. How many rows? Fin density? More rows and fins = better cooling and the repairer ought to be able to tell you what he is planning to use.

BTW, my 56 radiator was $500 in 2003. 3 row w/ extra fins.

  11. NTX, in my humble opinion, GM has been in self destruct for quite some time, and this news is not surprising, although unexpected. I just talked with a fellow who had a Caddy CTS for 4 years, and claimed he had receipts for 40 visits to the dealership for service, along with the need to replace all four tires multiple times in the period of ownership. He finally bundled all of the reciepts up and sent them to the Cadillac Motor Division expecting that someone would contact him to explain or at least apologize for the vehicles poor performance. You know, reach out to save a customer. But no one contacted him. So he dumped the Caddy, and GM alltogether, and bought an Infinity.

Sad day for what used to be an industry leader.
