  1. Condolences are sent from this corner of the Buick Universe. Only those who bear the loss will know the true pain, but many of us share in your grief. God bless your Mom, and all your family too. We send our peace to you especially James.

RIP Joseph Avery Miller Not to be forgotten!

  2. I'm glad to be among other newbies. I didn't really address why I am a car lover.... My high-school car was a 66 Fairlane GTA that kept me in speeding tickets. ......I prefer body work and upholstery.

So my biggest job is planning the restoration, educating myself on what was stock on a car, and helping locate parts.

    Cardolly/ aka Dolores F

Well Cardolly, I'm not surprised that GTA kept you in speeding tickets... Sweet car! Welcome aboard and please post some pics of the Buick in the Me and My Buick Forum pages.

  3. Hi John, Here is another option for seat belts: http://http://wescoperformance.stores.yahoo.net/ll60.html

For my 56 Super I bought the longer ones for the front seat and the shorter ones for the rear seat. For the front seat I ran the buckle side of the belt up over the seat bottom between the upper seat halves, and the male end on the outside. I did bolt them through the floor using the hardware provided. They are very reasonably priced and have plain chrome buckles.

  4. You might want to consider going with roller bearings. The less expensive bearings available seem to be made out of the country, and I've been through several of them on my 56. If you can find a USA bearing I'd say go for it. But I believe you can find roller bearings and races to convert over and no one would be the wiser. If mine go again that's what I'll do.

  5. Someone once said there was supposed to be a felt washer at the end of the driveshaft by the rear axle ( I think it was Old Tank?) . If I recall correctly this deteriorates and once replaced eliminates the clunk at the rear axle. Can't say for certain this is the problem your experiencing, and can't even say I know how to check it out. But I can say my 56 clunks going into reverse and I believe this is the problem.

  6. What would you do with the car? Fix it or turn it over? Restore it or just get it running? This is the type of thing I'd be asking myself if I were looking at it. What's it gonna cost to do what I would want to do and where will I be equity wise when I was done.

  7. ... If you can spin it over a few times keeping the oil up in the engine ya might want to do that every once in a while. ..., keep the battery charged and spin the engine over till the oil light goes out.

I think mice hate moth balls too?? Don't know about that for sure.

I'm thinking you're right about this Brian. Disconnect the positive lead to the coil. Just pulling the center wire on my 69 was enough to wind up with a huge spark discharge from the cap to the nearest piece of metal, which was the fuel line. I'm also considering priming my carbs with 10wt oil to combat the effects of ethanol.

Also I think they are right that mice do not tolerate Bounce Dryer sheets. I had a problem inthe garage last year and I was sure it came from the bottoms of the garage doors which do not seal at my house. I took out the vermin with traps and at the same time I stuffed bounce sheets in the gaps of the garage doors. I then put more traps right by the doors. After the initial purging, I didn't have another mouse all winter.

  8. Besides the 55 Special and 65 Electra 4 dr hardtop, I can distinctly remember a late 30's plymouth that he hated, a 50 Special which caught on fire, Then the 55 Special I learned to drive stick shift on, a 53 Special 2 Dr Riviera for my eldest sister , a 60 Olds 98 which he loved to burn out in, Then the 65 Electra which I still love and miss. A 66 Chevy Caprice for another older sister, a 66 Delta 88 with a 425 Cu In 2 bbl carb which my older brother loved to burn out in, a 69 Cutlass S convertible which was assigned to me and couldn't break rubber on a greased road. A 69 Olds 98 4 Dr Sedan which was really sweet till it was rear ended twice and sideswiped by a taxi when dad refused to yield to him. After I moved out he bought a A 72 Olds 98, and a 72 Cutlass which my younger brother drove. As for relatives, I can only recall two uncle John's. One drove a 58 baby blue Coupe deville before passing early in life, and the othjer had a 62 Black Caddy convertible with a red interior. Nothing else stuck out.
