  1. Keith, I have never had a compressor rebuilt but I failed to heed Willie's advice about rebuilts a few years ago and have recently had to re-address my A/C system again. Expensive stuff.

I just want to point out that my NAPA store got me a NEW A6 style compressor for my 69 GS. And my mechanic had me remove every piece from the car for bench flushing, except the evaporator, plus install an in line filter in the high side liquid line. I have little history to go with right now as I just fixed the system last Tuesday. However I can say this system is much smoother running and cools very well indeed, even with the R 134a and no POA valve adjustment.

  2. Hello Pothookit: a cool Buick for the right price. There's quite a bit you can do to bring this car back to life and mostly it will require a lot of patience. Before we assume your level of experience with this type of stuff, can you give us somemore background on your mechanical experiences? This will help us to suggest things in terms that are easily understood.

Meanwhile I see the interior has some leaves and stuff in there. If you have evidence of mouse infestation I urge you to be careful in cleaning the interior, to avoid the possibility of hentavirus. Check that out on the web. It's scary stuff even if the possibility is low.

Glad you stopped by to get some suggestions here. we love to watch old Buicks come back and ride again.

  3. Nicracing: in case you still need the information I have created scans of my 68 Manual for this project. For some reason I can't post the thumbnails here but I'll try again tomorrow to figure that out. Meanwhile here's some things that may help:

1 there is a warning from the manual that says the front door window consists of the glass plus a pressed on lower sash channel assembly with a screw on lower sash channel cam. This is removed as a one piece unit.

2 you need to lower the window 3/4 of the way and reomve the two top stops

3 you need to loosen the rear guide to door inner panel attaching bolts

4 with window 3/4 lowered you need to remove the lower sash cam from the lower sash channel

then push the Regulator lift arm inboard to clear the glass sash channel and pull the glass straight up.

Please let us know if you need further assistance.

    Good luck.

  4. I'll steal Mr. Earl's thunder so as not to keep you all in suspense. There were two well deserved Buickman of the year awards. The first was delivered to Charles Barnette ( Posthumously), and the second to a great guy, Bob Coker!

What was not delivered was an award to Mr. Earl who obviously deserves it for everything he's done over the years to promote good will and participation amonst Buick Lovers all over the world! And I here-by nominate the man for the next immediate Buickman award.

I would also like to nominate John Schieb for his work in initiating and setting up the Forum Breakfast. A great job John and many thanks!

  5. Returned from Danvers and wanted to say some thanks:

To Start, Thanks to the Lord for a safe journey, great weather, and fixing my A/C which works pretty darn good. Also to my sweetheart wife ( Linda) who wound up not feeling too good but insisted I go and participate in the meet.

Next, Thank you to the Minute Man Chapter for a great show, and John Schieb and Mr. Earl for an fun filled Forum Breakfast. This was a highlight of the trip.

Then to all the members I met and talked to over the last two days I was there. You all are special and a great group!

A special note to Roberta, Know we are with you and praying that Dad ( and Mom too) improves substantially, soon!

I don't know if this picture will work right or not. I hope it does, and I hope it will make each of you feel like you were a part of the event.

( ps: if you don't know, click the bar at the top of the picture two times for a magnified view.)

(pss: if you look in the top left corner of the pictures you will see the back line of another parking lot which I understand was completely full during the high hours of the show)

Hope to meet more of you all in Charlotte NC next year!

  6. I saw it done once on a 70 GS 455. Not quite sure it's the same as yours. Here's what I remember:

Loosen the bumper and drop it down on the pass side.

Remove headlight trim to remove the two bolts behind it for the fender.

Remove the hood or reassure yourself that when the hinge is unbolted it won't slip and go through your windshield.

remove the top bolts on the radiator support

remove the bolts from the inner fender well ( may have to raise the car to get access above the tire

Look under your fender. My 69 has bolts holding the fender on but the 70 has some sort of slide mechanism, which I did not get to see.

The car I saw the guy removed the door to try and get access to the lower fender bolts before he found out about that slide system.

    Thats all I can remember.

  7. 57 Coupedeville, I know you already said you were going to pass on that green machine. I just wanted to point out that it has no heater either. Probably not a problem in Texas, but sure to be trouble anywhere north of that.

ps: you 54 guys are brazen. Everyone knows 56's are sublime.:D

  8. I doubt they are Gran Sport pieces. The door sill looks to be from a 4 door car. Either a 4 dr sedan or wagon. They doo look like 64-65 pieces by the steep angle of the "A" Pillar trim and someone may want them. But you may want to post them for sale on Craigs list.

  9. BEAUTIFUL job Jerry. Congratulations. I love to watch these projects from start to end. You did a great job.

But looks like you got some 'splainin to do. Just what may we ask were you doing at the Dream Motel? :)

WTF, what's up with outing our Buick Buddies Lamar??? LOL!!!!
