  1. Guys, Auto-dimming, map-lighted,compass rearviews in late Rivs. both my 95 and 99 have them
  2. Sold the car. This was from a parts car, that had been picked over severly, even to the point of the brackets in the floor pan for factory buckets had been cut out. Dale
  3. listing this again, did not hear back from previous interested party. Located near Des Moines, Iowa Free full set of glass for GM 61/62 bubbletops. from 61 Invicta. windshield, rear glass, all side glass. All factory tinted Need to free up space, no longer have the car. Free to pick up. Dale
  4. Get yourself a paper clip and straighten it out. Put the key in the ignition and turn it to Accessory. Stick the paperclip wire into the hole which is lower left of the key slot I believe. Push the pin in, while turning the key as if going left past the accessory setting, ignition housing will release. Good luck. Dale
  5. Matt, Just let me know when. I can be reached via my email. gibsonnut@aol.com Dale

  7. Dreke, Thanks for the tip, the new hose does not have the spring, it is a Gates. The upper does have a ribbed split sleeve to protect from the serpentine belt. Planning to install them this weekend, I'll let you know Dale
  8. Well, the '90 deserves replacements, so called my local O'Reilys, and bingo, in stock, upper and lower, and molded. I could not believe it. Dale
  9. Chuck, That's a very nice original. I am one of those who just can't warm totally to a 4 door. Always wanted Dad to get a two door, and he never did, so on my own, I have never bought a 4 door, and probably will never own a new Buick again. But, I did want to comment on your 73, Dad had a 72, and when you consider that is a WI car, it is flat out AMAZING to be in that condition. Good luck on your auction Dale
  10. Thanks All, I passed on the car, and having owned a 66 in the past, this just looked like a normal 66 to me. I never learned the differences between 66 and 67 like I did the ones between 63,4,5. That's why I hoped Darwin would chime in. the article will be an even better read for me now.
  11. Ok, I know it sounds crazy, but this came up in conversation the other day, talking to a guy who advertised a 67 for sale. He gave me the VIN, and it reflects as a 1966, then said the motor was a 425, with the title stating it was a 1967. Title error is my bet. BUT-------------------- The guy swears he has a friend, who ordered a 67 new, early in the year, and had a choice to order it with a 425 or 430, and that he ordered the 430 and reqreted it. WELL..............I never heard of such a thing, and anyone who would want a 425 in lieu of the 430 is suspect in my mind... Anyone hear of such a thing? The guy says they called these 425 67's, 66 1/2.
  12. One neat thing about the cornering lights. they make the lower half of the upper section of the parking light pod WHITE while the upper half stays AMBER as a turn signal. this change from the white pale parking lamp before turning the signal lever.
  13. You can probably see a brochure from 84, they issued Delco sound system brochures to see if yours is factory, But I know in that timeframe they had AM/FM Cassette/CB's, cuz I had one in my Electra It required a special power antenna, which had a transciever bump mid-point.
  14. Thanks. I thought about that, had it happen on an 89 Riv a few years back, and didn't want that to be the case, but does seem logical. I will keep you posted, thanks again. Dale
  15. Ok,here goes. The car is in a lengthy restoration, and has been started from time to time to relocate in the garage. Last time it ran was approx early June, last evening it didn't start. Had fuel pressure to the rails, but was not hearing the fuel pump in the tank. Had spark from the coil packs, but none to the plugs. Any idea if there is an electronic part that fails without warning and takes the engine out of start mode? Any help appreciated. Dale
  16. Wow, real fuzzy here, but decades ago, I toyed with creating a way to have cruise as well as the speed buzzer on my 64, and think the buzzer just went to ground, and I planned to install a toggle to go back and forth. Has anyone done this? Dale
  17. Back in the late 70's, before the 78 turbo-charged engine hit the market place, one of my business aquaintances had a son who was a Buick engine designer or engineer, and I was allowed to guess that turbo-charging was on it's way. It came up again when the Riv was a pace car for 83, and the requirement by the race commission was that the pace car had to be able to attain a certain very fast speed. That meant dual turbo-chargers on the 83, and may mean supercharged on this baby. Yes, nice to dream.
  18. 72 was the first year of what I called the "polution pump" a major upgrade/degrade from the former pcv valve.
  19. For what it's worth, my 61 Electra 225 had a factory compass, that had a two arm bracket, one side bolted in each mounting hole for the rear view mirror. Seems to me my 64 Riv had the same mirror mount, so if they made the compass with the same double arm in 63..... Dale
  20. Dick, I owned a red 61 225 convert with factory buckets, and we re-did the leather, buffed the metal, and left the steal backs alone. They were not mint, and I always wanted to paint them, but they were not exterior red, and seemed to be semi-gloss, likely lacquer like the exterior, but definitely not the same sheen. I have some pix on a flashcard somewhere, and if I come across them, drop me an email at gibsonnut@aol.com and I will shoot them to you. Dale
  21. To those who went on either Hawkeye Chapter or BDE tours in 2001, the wonderful, quirky tavern/restaurant, Breitbach's in Balltown, Iowa had a fire/explosion Christmas Eve afternoon, and is no more. The owner and his son were in the restaurant, which is not open to the public on Mondays, thank goodness. Mary and I visited this October during a fall leaves weekend, and it had not changed since most of you saw it. Check out the Des Moines Register's site for pix and article. (if you can gete beyond the caucuss coverage......) www.DesMoinesRegister.com Dale
  22. 63 Silver/silver 64 Bronze Mist/saddle 65 White/saddle yep, fun to dream, and in one of the above, to remember. Dale
  23. Thanks Ed, Now I understand why the distributor is different for the 64 dual quad, and one can use the unit from a 61 401 to get the 12 degree curve. Dale
  24. Hi, Just a suggestion. I don't even remember if the situation I had once was with factory clamps or aftermarket. But I did tighten too far, and the tube kinked, that is, lost its round shape, and the depressed kink allowed blow-by, even though the hose looked tight and the kink was not visible from outside. Disconnect your hose ends, and check the tubes, which can be rounded again with inserting a cone to create the shape again. Good luck!
