  1. Darwin, I went to the LA show website, only Buick reference is for LaCrosse, Enclave and Lucerne. No Buick mention in the Concepts link. Did it make it to the show? Dale
  2. Pete, Is it a Super, I thought in 50 only the Specials had split windshields???? Dale
  3. My best experience has been with TRIFOIL, is that the one you were trying to think of? Dale
  4. Rob, Nice shot of the clamshell. What a super set up, and the PERFECT way for a wagon to allow COMPLETE functionality!! Paul, Right, probably the A/C part. Makes sense, as the auto-level would have been shown on the sticker list. Also, remembered mine being larger diameter.... Thanks for setting me straight. Dale
  5. Wow, what a car. Ok, can anyone tell me if the black cylinder, up and outboard from the A/C, is part of a factory auto-level system? Don't see it listed on the sticker options, and my 71 Riv had a silver cylinder for the purpose. If so, this is one unique wagon. Always loved the clamshell rears..........
  6. 71...straight engine 72...polution pump added, loss of hp 73...new fed emissions restrictions, and the loss of the MaxTrac option. MaxTrac is the rarest of all options on the boattails, sensor in front wheel hub, and speedo cable entry to tranny, these sensed front and rear wheel revs, and if rears exceeded fronts, the computer logic box in the glove compartment area sent a signal and the timing was retarded. Road & Track did a test, and found the car on a soapy reverse camber track would take it faster than that year's vette. The timing retard also fed more emmissions into the air, good-bye MaxTrac..... Was a great option, imagine, flooring it from a dead stop and getting absolute traction forward. Never drove one, have the option but don't have the car any longer.
  7. Ray, Great site for the getogether. In 2000 I was involved in planning for the BDE, and chose Galena as the location, and know the resort you refer to. The trip to Dyersville, Iowa, site of the toy factory and s short trip to the Field of Dreams is easily done as well, and we put it in our itinerary. I recent article about the Dreams site tells how the whole ball field now belongs to one owner. (until this year, a shared ownership existed. visit the infield, pay one owner, visit the outfield, pay another. It HAS to be easier now.) Bring your glove, and play on the field. Also, some great places from the elevated areas of Dubuque to view the Mississippi. Glad to hear the news. Dale
  8. Located in the Des Moines, Iowa area, (Ankeny), I have the windshield, rear glass, door and quarter glass. All with factory tint. Moving soon, don't want to move it. Free if you pick it up. Dale gibsonnut@aol.com
  9. I'm not near my issue of Old Cars Weekly from a few weeks ago, but I seem to remember reading, a treatment for insects or varmints was done to the vault, like on the inside when the 57 was placed. It was water-base material, so the rust had a definite head start from the get-go. Alas, an Old Car Weakly....... Dale
  10. Just a thought, had an 84 and a 79, but don't know for sure. Back in the day, the tick-tock the turn signal was a plug-in on the fuse box, so that is the first place I would look. Dale
  11. Hi Jeff, This may be a win/win situation, so let me know. I have a 95 Regal GS I want to sell. It has the 3.8, 113K =/-, black with grey leather. It has cancer in rockers, but nice otherwise on the exterior. The interior is nice with one seam separation on driver's bucket. A/C blows cold, new windshield and blades, new battery and alternator. I have had it one year, and live in the central Iowa area, BUT am starting a new job in the KC area, and driving weekly. I will drive my Riviera until we relocate fully, but could drive the Regal one week if you'd like to see it, and it would work for you. Planned to ask $1500 for it, but may be willing to take less, just need to let it go, and make room for the Reatta returning from the shop soon. The 95 is when they changed the dash on these cars, from the straight across to the cockpit look of later years. I have a would grain dash kit I planned to install prior to listing it locally, and an nos black vinyl bra kit. Let me know at my home email, gibsonnut@aol.com Thanks Dale
  12. I don't remember the exact year, but probably about 1997 or so, my future daughter-in-law had a chance to spend a senior year session in China, and was amazed to see billboard after bilboard of Buick SHOES, yes, like Nike's, but BUICK, then she noticed dozens of people wearing them, and tried to find a store to get me some Buick shoes. She took a pic of a billboard, and it took a friend of hers the next session to score a size 6 or so, pair of the Buick shoes. I displayed them at a BDE event that summer, but don't remember the exact year. Anyway, what a deft method to gain name recognition there, and think how the phonetic pronounciation of Buick sounds oriental..... It made it easier to introduce the car with that name recognition. CBS Sunday morning show in 2004 or so did a nice article on the way Buicks are thought of there, interviewing many on the street, in the showrooms, etc, and it is obvious from sales figures, the rumor is true. Dale
  13. check out ebay Item number: 150116299241
  14. My 89 Riviera came with the compass module, and the manual gives resetting instructions, suggesting a parking lot to wander within. The car also had the factory cell phone, and back in the day, with analog available, it was a wonderful toy. Dale
  15. One possible leak source is the 0-rings in the lines. When my Regal changed from R-12 to R-=134, a similar leak to what you described occured within a day or so. Seems the Regal had SAE dimension 0-rings, rubber, and the R-134 system needed metric, neoprene. The shop did the change, and the car has been running 7 years on that charge. Dale
  16. I can't state one way or the other, but can shed some light on wires from the 60's I was able to put 13" (not a typo) 13 " Corvair wires on my 62 skylark. The "basket" was the SAME as 15", the spinner was the SAME as 15". I seem to remember the 3-bar spinner on a Chevy of those years, and as the center emblems also were totally interchangeable......these look to me like Chevy 3-bar in Buick disguise. Dale
  17. And another thing, the 89 Riv's antenna was special to also be the phone transmitter. it was thick and had a 3" or so section unique to such antennae. I can't remember if the ebay seller shows the antenna, so his "complete" may not even work.... Dale
  18. Tommy, I had a factory cell in my 89 Riv, and it worked wonderfully. The analog is a bummer, and above posters are correct, no carrier will add a new analog line for you. The radio speakers were used for the other person's talk, the radio fell to the rears and the caller came over the fronts. A mic is in the headliner area for your voice pickup. The control center would display "incoming Call", and under options you could bring up the touch pad for dialing outgoing. I have a 95 Riv factory option kit and hope to adapt it into my 96 Riv with a digital cell, will have to have help froma local carrier, but loved the in-console handset, it was coil wired in the 89, and look to do the 96 with a removable digital cell. Barney is correct about the cost of the option. I saw one list in either 88 or 89 for Riv, in the $2600 range.....Imagine a 30K car with 10% additional for the phone....whew!! Dale
  19. Hi Dave, Still looking. Hoping to find the one I let get away, so may not jump too soon. drop me some pix at gibsonnut@aol.com, and full description. thanks for touching base. Dale
  20. Bill, See this Reserve Not Met, ebay 64, 230080602244 Vintage air looks pretty good, and put the console to use as well. I like the car, it has been on ebay several times, never selling. Called the seller, says 25K. Not worth that, but did bid to upper teens. Dale
  21. Doug, I assume the 63 had the same front fender contour as the 62? If so, I have a couple of very nice ones. Just moved, and can't lay my hands on them anytme soon, always wanted to put these on my car, but sold the car several years ago. Dale
  22. Hi Gang, Just a quick post to add my experience to the growing legend of Jim Finn and his help to this group. My body shop buddy, who is helping bring my 90 coupe with sunroof back to life noticed last weekend a motor mount ruined by the accident we are repairing. I emailed Jim to ask if he had one, and he asked for time to battle the weather to remove one from a parts car. He gave me a link to see the high price of a new one, and suggested a price that I accepted. Today he told me he'd parted out another car with a friend, and snared the motor mount for me at about half the previously quoted price!!! What a guy!! I know those who have dealt with Jim before find this familiar, but to those new to the board, or new owners of these fine cars, make Jim your first source, you will not be disappointed. (I decided to elevate his name in this subject line, to indicate my respect for his help) Dale
  23. Hi, I think the windshield in bubbles and converts are the same. Dale
  24. If anyone needs a full set of door, quarter, rear, and windshield glass, factory tinted, to use with this car, let me know Dale gibsonnut@aol.com
