  1. Where were you six months ago? I had a 61 Electra 225 convert to trade. timing, again, is everything......... Dale
  2. They are good folks! 5 years or so ago, needed an overnight rush order for upper engine, rocker assy. parts to install before a touring event. It was like a Tuesday evening call, and Wednesday shipment, a Thursday night installation, and a Friday drive down the road. If I remember correctly, I was in a panic, and ready to buy the farm, pay through the nose for a full upper engine rebuild kit, and they guided me through only what I did need, and saved me a ton. Dale
  3. Bob, Nice going. We look forward to the info. Do check into our providing the t-shirts, sweatshirts, polos, etc. if possible. My thought is a tan t-shirt, to coordinate with my black'n'tan convert. Dale
  4. Tom, I like the existing method. Haven't downloaded the Excel format yet, fearful of the file size, and the text is fine. Scrolling to fnd another interest beats backing out of previous windows which the search function would require. Make it easy on yourself, we all appreciate your efforts. Dale
  5. Flash, Good to know Dan helped you out. I met him years ago at a BCA National, probably 1994 in Atlanta, and have dealt with him since. Great communicator, and always excellent service. If any of you deal with him, tell him Dale Leichsenring says "hi" Dale
  6. Hey Flash, Thanks for the info. Had only recently realized we may be able to attend, but figured there would be no rooms at this time. I logged on and read your note regarding the Baymont and scored a room. Still trying to arrange the time, but at least have some place to land. Thanks again! Dale
  7. If anyone is interested in the 89 on ebay, 4 day auction beginning today, I can provide some details. I drove it a few months ago, and may have negotiated a buy if not for the IAA Detroit auction providing me a convert. I think I remember enough to give a good driver's report, or could visit it again for those out of the area. Let me know. Dale gibsonnut@aol.com
  8. Thanks Bob, we look forward to the results. Dale
  9. What's the latest on the ongoing pursuit of a new run of shirts with the unique design of the black Reatta convertible discussed here several weeks ago? Anyone who can update us? Dale
  10. Harry, I used to own an 89 Riv, and my son had an 86. I forget which one of our CRTs died, I think my 89, and while it was being rebuilt, I stuck a junkyarded 86 into the dash. It worked fine as a loaner if I remember correctly. Dale
  11. A friend is interested in a 55 Super located in Bradford, VT. Is anyone willing to look at it for him? Pix look good so far, but nothing like a 55-wise BCA'r to bless it. Please reply to this post, or to gibsonnut@aol.com Thanks. Dale If the seller is from this board, shoot me some info on the restoration.
  12. Just a thought about the Left-Side-Only result, using a miniplug. Assuming you know there is a difference between mono and stereo miniplugs? If you don't see a second black insulator ring on the plug, you've got mono. Try Radio Shack, may be an easy fix.
  13. Here's a bit more on the thread topic. Got a Playboy mag, I think the new issue, and an article on Phil Spector contains some grainy pix of the grounds of his home. You may remember a couple of us caught the tv news article, with a red coupe being driven on his grounds. In one very poor pic from overhead, the car is shown, and I only realized it was the coupe, by looking at the wheels. So, anybody know yet if the car is Spector's or that of attorney Shapiro? Dale
  14. Bad news, I pulled out the tan buttons I mentioned in the previous post, and each has one of the straight pins broken off. That's no doubt why they were removed. Sorry I couldn't solve your problem. Dale
  15. I don't know the correct part names, but with help from this board, I reconnected a fully loose column on my 90 coupe. The connection which is inside the clear plastic tube is a slip-fit connection. There is a small spring steel clip which provides tension and makes the shaft fit tightly in the spline. If yours is missing, which can happen if someone had been in there before, there is enough play to be felt. It's a real pain to do, but Barney, Jim Finn, and a couple of others, and my son-in-law were my salvation. Good Luck! Dale
  16. I might be able to help. Just got a 90 conv. and the ashtray has a couple of extra tan wheel buttons in it, the ones on my wheel look fine, so didn't look more closely. Maybe they are junk and were replaced, but I'll check. Dale
  17. Nic, I just posted a reply to our original thread about the episode. The detail, such as close ups of the wheel sensors, code key, etc., including list of materials (anti-sieze grease), and they went further, suggesting a full brake rotor resurfacing and pad replacement if "you're in that far anyway". The shots were primarily close up of the wheel hubs, but it was a very clean '91 coupe, white with grey interior, sunroof, no 16-way. The host chose to sit in the car for his closing shot, after repair, and it was nice to see the car be the star of the episode. Drop me an email at gibsonnut@aol.com for more info. Dale
  18. The Weekend Mechanic episode yesterday was a good summary on the sensor repair for Reatta ABS. Being a cable subscriber without DIY on the menu, I was able to view it with the help of my local Radio Shack store. The manager, Randy Halferty, was accomodating, and his customer service was above and beyond. So, take this as a positive endorsement for Radio Shack, and thanks again for the original note and link provided. Little by little becoming able to maintain the cars..... Dale
  19. I plan to do this when redoing the interior on my 90 coupe. There is a long wire with a yellow connector which the air bag module connects to. It may be able to be disconnected further down the column, but should tuck in and allow the spoke wheel to be installed. The column end and locking nut are the same on both configurations. The connector end should be wrapped with tape to guard against shorting, and the airbag light will be a permanent part of your dash display. Dale
  20. Nic, Earlier today, the schedule on DIY said the show would be aired Saturday 7 PM, but now it says Saturday 9 AM. From their home page click programming, Daily, and the 12th. Anybody able to tape it for us? Dale
  21. THANKS FOR THE LINK. For those of us still slaves to the cable company, would anyone be able to tape this segment for us, or if it is offered from DIY directly, gain the info to order? Dale

    Door swap

Thanks guys! I do see the extra pin and hole in the jamb area of the convert, will be sure to include that. I was pleasantly surprised to see the side rail protection within the door shells, probably 1" I.D. pipe, spot-welded to the outer skin. I have never rivoted before, and I will definitely look to Harbor Freight for such a removal tool. If I become rivot-literate from this project, I will try to re-rivot them. My original plan is to use the bolt, nut, lock washer configuration also. I should tell you my great luck in finding the parts. My convert is black, and I needed a door and a front fender. I did a web search on www.car-parts.com, and found BOTH IN BLACK in a local yard. I should not even have to repaint if I'm lucky. So, I'm sure that's why I'm hitting this roadblock, too much luck used already to get to this point! Thanks again everyone, and I will keep you posted. Dale

    Door swap

I tried a search for any previous posts about swapping doors, or the interior construction of them, but struck out. I am in the midst of doing such a swap for my convertible rebuilder, and am deep into it, finding the wiring race is rivoted to the interior panel, etc. The power window motor also is rivoted, using a larger size. I've removed the "vent" window assy., the wire race channel, the window glass and channels, stops, etc. Those were the easy ones, now come the window motor, lock assy. and lock cylinder and door handle. Have any of you done such a swap, any tips for me. Coming from 60's technology, with windows bolted onto the channel, and vibration causing loosening, I understand the benefit of rivoting, but what a pain.... So, any info would be appreciated, including any horror stories I might avoid. Thanks Dale
  24. Gabe, No expert here, but several years ago, The Great American Race, which goes cross country each summer, had a Buick race car driven by a father and pre-teen daughter. They won their class, and all the advetising for that race used that Buick, with many pictures. The race is heavily sponsored by Interstate Batteries, and is headquartered in Texas. Just a thought, as cars in that event are most often stock. Good luck, and let us know how you make out. Dale
