  1. i need a right rear fender for a 24 dodge brothers coupe. i'm sure roadster fenders are the same, as it measures the same as my neighbor's. don't know about touring or sedan. thank you
  2. my opinion is stainless hardware sucks. i have to use it everyday at my real job because of food. even with neversieze it still gaulds[sp?] and snaps off. make or buy new studs. i made some for my 24 DB from an alloy called B-7. it's kind of heat-treated but not brittle. used them for head studs.
  3. i did approach the sob at a local unimart, told him he needed a job to occupy his little mind [ he's a welfare bum] and what i thought of him[ known him all his life] and i had to explain to one of pennsylvania's fineist police ociffers that i wouldn't harass him again. damned cop didn't care he was standing beside the box containing the toolbox while i was telling him my story. i was the guilty one because he called the fuzz. btw, i do really enjoy seeing pictures of other's cars. maybe you could get the house no. in the backround.
  4. yes, this wouldn't have been internet theft. but several people were condemned for being secretive about there cars. i think they may have a point, but that's up to the individual. it was just a warning how lowlifes exist.
  5. after reading the discussion about pictures of cars leading to theft, let me relate this story. this really happened to me 6 years ago. i have a small business at home, get frequent ups deliveries for supplies, mostly from mcmaster-carr and msc. msc, like many other companies puts your account no. on your mailing address label. on days after a holiday[ like president's day] my mail gets screwed up by a substitute driver. everyone's mail is off by 2 or 3 mailboxes. i should have received a bill on one of these screwed up days but never did. a few days later i got home to a big box sitting in my house. my ups driver knows if i'm not home he can leave a package on my porch. i had just taken a real job, that's why i wasn't there. my son had come home from school and followed the ups truck up my driveway. thinking the package was for me he put the box in the house and went fishing with buddies. i hadn't ordered anything so i went to my shop to call msc to see whatup. there was a message from them with much concern in the voice. it seems "i" had called the order in for a new kennedy tool box, air sander, and $4000 worth of other tools. but "i" seemed very nervous even though"i" knew all the answers to there security questions, including account no. remember the screwed up mail? it seems one of my neighbors got my bill with acc. no. and decided to shop. since ups delivered about 2:30 and i didn't get home until 4:00 he should have had ample time to retreive his new items, for which i would receive the bill. lucky for me my son put the package in the house so the neighbor never got anything. after many phone calls msc and i pieced together what happened and they even paid return shipping. i could never prove what he did but about 3 days later i had a call from msc. this same neighbor was in msc's showroom looking at the same toolbox he tried to steal . when he complained how expensive they were and bought something else the girl recognized the address and called me. she described him perfectly. so now every mailorder acc. has it's own password. no password, no package. beware, someone is always thinking and it's not always a good thought.
  6. thanks hvs, my point is many people keep insisting the aaca is only for "as delivered" vehicles. the can was opened many years ago. the competition class and commercial are not "as delivered". they are always on the mustsee list of classes i look at. i think the powers that be are making a mistake eliminating a class they never gave an honest chance. even though i've never been to pebble beach concours i've followed the success of them accepting historic hotrods. there are really so few i don't think it would ever be a large class anyway. if the aaca is truely for as delivered vehicles, where were all the visored, skirted, foglit, dual mirrored, tissue dispensored cars built? so many of the cars are loaded up with official accessories or painted more desireable colors or optioned up with stuff you know they didn't all come with. how is this differant? nuffsaid
  7. what about the trucks with the gold leaf lettering of company logos, or even commercial bodies for that matter. weren't the old trucks shipped as cab and chassis? or is that differant?
  8. there always seems to be a good supply of hubcaps and radiator emblems on ebay.
  9. since you said the engine and trans share oil is there a common oil pan? or is there a partition between them? perhaps in normal use you are only draining the oil from the engine[ 3 gallons] not the trans [ the other 2 gallons].
  10. did anyone understand the one car of reggie's that was a nosale? it stalled at $100000 then went to $110000, they said the reserve was $175000 but was withdrawn, the car was going to sell. all of a sudden they drove the car out as a nosale. whatup? why didn't the guy with the 110 bid scream? and what about the ZL-1 with the wrong motor nosale at $275000? didn't i just see a good one recently for $180000?
  11. thanks greg. i'll try jim tonight. the only thing i don't understand is why would anybody sell a 60 invicta.
  12. the cable is red and has the no. 6290277 on it in white ink stamp. i had checked with a few buick vendors at carlisle and all they had was black replacements. i'm assuming it's original but don't really know. anyone have a 68 electra? i even looked through all the showcars at hershey. this is the only part that appears to be modifudged on a 32000 mile whale. thank again
  13. i would replace it but i've not found a listing for an exact duplicate of mine. it's for a 68 electra. the only one i've found as a replacement was black, orig is red. any help? thanks again.
  14. is there anyone that can install new spring cable ends on battery cables like gm used in the 60's? my cable is fine, someone put a temporary end on it. thanks
  15. that faceplate with the ears sure looks like vw to me, ivory knobs do too.
  16. i took the inspection plate off at the base of the shifter. then held the clutch in with one hand and used a screwdriver to make sure none of the clutch plates were rusted together. be careful not to scratch any of the discs. maybe a little brakeclean would be a more modern cleanser than kero.
  17. my 24 acts the same way. if the trans is cold and the engine idleing i can shift into gear. i've taken off the inspection plate and made sure all the clutch plates are free, changed the oil to Fix Or Repair Daily model T oil and it still grinds some on upshifts and when going from third to nuetral as described above.
  18. 40LUV, one of the sights can be found at http://hotrodder.com/ , then do a hotrod search on john milner's coupe. the picture's not great of the manifold but the car's bitchen.
  19. no, my father sold it to buy the farm i live on. because of the war he was able to sell it for more than he had paid. my mother saved the receipt because it was their first new car, and gave it to me a few years ago.
  20. rick bricker, what oil did you use?
  21. thanks oldscarnut, i thought you might have some insight on this.
  22. martin, be more specific.how long did you have it running?how did it shut off, pop snort bang or just die? what were you doing when it shut off, driving, adjusting? did it ever do this to you before? compression?
  23. i had looked at the date before, but it never registered until right now. it was December 13, 1941. my dad could not remember in my lifetime what year the car was, 41 or 42. he thought it was 41, but by another post i was told it was 42. what is really interesting about the lease is there is no referance to interest. the purchase price was 1067.30. with the delivery payment of 323 the "deferred rental" was 744.30, divided by 18 payments of 41.35. did the General really sell cars interest free, or am i missing something? there's a seperate form stapled to it that gives the lessee the right to forfeit the contract in the event of being drafted. lessee gets all their money back except 3% per month. the original dealer was Kleinfelter's garage, which i think was in jonestown, pa.
  24. i have the original receipt for my parent's 42 chevy. it was written as a new car lease from GMAC. i just wondered how long before that they existed. like everything else i guess there really isn't anything new. after all chrysler still thinks they invented the minivan.
