  1. Thanks Peter, I had hoped someone would have the statistics as you posted. But I think 37's comments are aimed at the 4000/day unregistered and 500/day registered visitors. Why so many visitors with "NO COMMENT"? If everyone is a car person, they should have something to contribute. There are many AACA questions that go unanswered, surely one of those 4500 can answer some questions. As much as I appreciate Neil's ideas about life, drunken and drug crazed as they may be, I disagree with the comparison of Neil's comment to 37. There is no one more knowledgeable about pre War cars or race cars on this site then he is, and willing to give that knowledge to help anyone. He's got something to say, maybe the 2 of you should be listening more. Rust never sleeps.Thank you Peter for all your time and effort.
  2. H&S, somebody will probably want to know what the bolt pattern is, what the wheels fit?
  3. 37,is that funny ha-ha, or funny strange? You don't need to answer, it's pretty obvious!
  4. If I remember right, the Dream Truck was totaled while being towed to a show, parted out and sold, stored for a bunch of years, then bought back by the origial builder. He rebuilt the truck as it was built for Rod and Custom but painted it differant. One of the first uses of quad headlights. What a work of art!
  5. The cheapest test is put the old plugs back in, that is if it didn't have the miss before. I've had bad spark plugs of just about any brand made. Some won't fire at all, others just under load, and even ACs.
  6. Are you positive it's not the fuel pump? Run it hot until it's, then before restarting disconnect the fuel line at the carb. Restart and make sure you have fuel pressure from the pump.
  7. Thanks, a friend needs an engine for a Marsh Metz, maybe this will help.
  8. I think whatever cars we like we better buy and use up because ours kids don't want them. The really premium cars will always be bigbucks, but the regular stuff might as well be taken with us when we are done with them.
  9. Claire, haven't seen you post lately, hope everything is OK.
  10. So given that the rule book tricked you by only mentioning the missing part thing once, given that the committee does not look at the cars and can't fix mistakes the judges make, given that '57 Chevies can have 2 antennas, can we count on you not answering any more judging questions or comments? There are people that ask real questions about judging and you have given several wrong answers. This does not look good for the club when you brag about having 63 credits. If you make this many mistakes here with time to look up the answer, how many are being made on the judging field when the integrity of the club is at stake. This is one of several reasons I feel owners should see their judging sheets. The owner deserves to know if the judges really know what they are doing. Can we at least count on you to not answer any more judging related questions?
  11. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Doors are five points each. So if everything else was there and in good shape and they were within ten points of the highest scoring car it explains why they got the award. It happens. </div></div> No one said you judged this Model T without doors. Your post was explaining why it was no big deal and the car still qualified for a senior. You should not embarrass yourself and the AACA by giving wrong advise. The rule book may need some work but it clearly has the right answer to this problem.
  12. How can you possibly justify this mistake by rationalising it's the committes fault? They look at judging sheets, the judges look at the cars. All they are doing is checking math. The judge has to know what part of the rule book applys and when to apply it. The committee could be looking at 1500-2000 sheets{Hershey}, this was one statement about one car, no time limit. If you didn't know the answer you could have looked it up like I did. Think worst condition, would the Challenger deserve a senior award without doors? You will never judge a car I own. I'm begging you, STOP ANSWERING JUDGING QUESTIONS!
  13. Mr. Shafto, as you can see, if you are still following this thread, the easy answer to your question of how the judges know is simply "they don't". At least not all of them. I certainly am not an expert in this field, but I've read the rule book and am still confused. Because of this I won't put myself on a judging field making rookie mistakes that someone with 60 or more credits is still making. I know there are good judges out there. Shoprat, we have tried to be subtle and it hasn't worked. PLEASE DON"T ANSWER JUDGING QUESTIONS!!
  14. Shoprat, my new rule book says, on page 17 no. 7, "Missing body components such as a missing fender will be subject to the same point deduction as a non-authentic body component{i.e., 40 points per item up to 120 points maximum}. Maybe I'm reading it wrong. But I think 37's point was how could a car even get a senior award while missing the doors? What would this same Challenger look like with a senior award without doors?
  15. Randy, all I've ever used was baby powder. I'm sure there was an official powder but that works.
  16. Tommy,I'm no expert either but I referred to my copy of The Hot One. It shows 16 different wheel colors for a '57 Cheby. Only silver cars had silver wheels. The confusing part is a 2-tone might have different colored wheels depending on if it's a 210 or Belair. And before I get bombed I know a book like this is not official AACA documentation. Maybe a '57 expert can explain. And as you know, with your '62 Corvette the whitewall/dogdish issue may come into play.
  17. Since not all of us could get to the convention , could someone post pictures? Even in the DB gallery would be great. Thanks.
  18. Shoprat, I have to admit I had to look it up, but the '57 Chevy was available with dual antennas. According to my book it was available with a rear left and right manual antenna, or a electric fender mounted antenna.
  19. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">What would be very cool would be if each owner could have their own car's photo put on the plate. </div></div>I think we already have that. Just ask Steve!
  20. Tinindian, that is a whole 'nother ball game, special lubes, no lube, etc.. Refer to a shop manual from when your Poncho was new.
  21. Tinindian, patience is a virtue. If all else fails try 3 fingers of Wild Turkey.Clean all the crude from around the maating surface of the bolts, spray with your fav spray, and tap the bolts sideways lightly with a small hammer. All you are trying to do is vibrate the juice in place and slightly loosen the threads. Maybe heat with propane, more juice, more time, more patience. Let cool, repeat all the above. When you are sure use a new pair of Vise Grips, not the junk from the flea market you bought for $.25. Carefully work the bolt back and forth, more juice, more patience, maybe more heat. When it moves easily, apply more juice, and remove the bolt. It will probably/maybe pull the threads with it, so you will need heli-coils., no big deal. You may want to do this over a few days, don't be in a hurry!!! When I do this for others,I charge more for owner installed broken drills and easyouts. So if the Wild Turkey doesn't work, seek professional help. BTW, I would recommend Grade 8 bolts or hardened studs and Grade 8 nuts, and resurface the bolt mating area. It's probably dished out, make it flat so the bolt has a good area to push against.
  22. Hey Oldscarnut, I don't think anyone has brought up the best car song ever, sung by the lovely Dina Shore, something about seeing the USA in a Cheby. Can you use that?
  23. Anyone catch Autoline on Speedvision Sunday AM? James Dollinger{sp} the most successful car salesman in the US was the guest. Wow, did he ever make sense. He thinks the rebates and "employee discounts" are a mistake, among other things. I think the General should be listening to him.
  24. I've wondered about this for some time, was hoping someone that really knew the answer would respond. I think too,as has been suggested there is no clearance with a roller tappet. I think the tappet must be in constant contact for proper function. I think I even remember my neighbor's SB Corvette, with a roller, that has springs under the heads to keep the lifters in contact with the cam. Have you checked with the cam manufacturer?
