Need Torque specs for rods and heads
nearchoclatetown replied to fred e's topic in Dodge & Dodge Brothers
I do not have the torque specs for '30, but these bolts were never mild steel. -
No ether. Try putting a little gasoline in before you screw in the new plugs. That way you know there's some fuel where it should be.TAke the top off the carb and fill it if the pump didn't fill it. Sent a PM.

That's like a 747 to me. try the how to use this forum column at the bottom. There's some brain surgeons down there that might be able to explain it.

My opinion is stay with the points. If there's good spark don't file them. Other prefer the electronic stuff. They both have problems and good points. There are a few speedsters in the DBC, one was at Macungie a few years ago.

First of all THANKS for serving. Second, welcome to the forum. If the engine turns over good by hand and has compression on ALL cylinders I see no reason it won't start. Compression on ALL tells me that none of the valves are stuck. Let's see some pictures. Is the engine stock? Trick head or carb?

What you need to do is get the past newsletters on CD. They are advertised in the newsletter, lots of good tech info. -

The pics I've seen make this look like a very good car.Congrats on your new purchase. You will find several vendors that advertise in the DBC newsletter. -
If it only weeps a LITTLE why change it? I'd wait for a valve job and do it at the same time. Mine turned into all new studs, a carb rebuild, cleaning and painting the engine, painting the splash shields, painting the firewall, the radiator, etc., etc.

Famous DF'er, Spectacular Car, One is for Sale!
nearchoclatetown replied to Steve Moskowitz's topic in General Discussion
Figures it was only a matter of time before you got involved. As usual the "guy that has everything under control" had the wrong cleaning supplies. I had to provide my own!! Guess that's why we call him Knothead. -

How close to the town of Chocolate is it? I wouldn't mind taking a peak. Try the DBC website want ads. If you are not in a big hurry to sell, try the DBC newsletter. The newsletter probably has more viewers. I think the new issue is almost in the mail, and the next one won't be for two months. Sure would be nice to keep it in the right hands. There are lots of online websites, Hemmings for example. You can contact me off the forum if you want. -

What a nice piece of history.Have you tried to get it running? My "guess" would be in the $3000-$7000 range depending on if it ran or not. I know that's not very specific but there's lots of variables. TO ME it sure would be nice to clean it and drive it, but everyone has an opinion. Maybe you should keep it! There's plenty of room in the DBC and AACA for more members. -
How to reverse the polarity in a 12v DB?
nearchoclatetown replied to dbtravis's topic in Dodge & Dodge Brothers
Dave, I only have one finger that knows how to type and sometimes it doesn't listen to what I want to say. My limited understanding of electricity says that polariseing is for the regulator and since a DB doesn't have one I agree it shouldn't be a problem. I also have switched from pos to neg without any ill effects. -
Congratulations, get him started early.

How to reverse the polarity in a 12v DB?
nearchoclatetown replied to dbtravis's topic in Dodge & Dodge Brothers
Dave, not to correct you , but I think you mean not to use emory cloth. Sand paper is what the book says to use. My understanding of pos, vs. neg groung is the change was made when the horn button was taken from the door to the steering column. -
As I said in your other post, I have an original paint '52 Ford that the paint code says vermillion but is painted green. I think the tag is a factory snafu, my truck will always be green. As for AACA judging, they don't care as both were available that year.

I could still smell the tire smoke when I got home last night, '37. Ain't never had that in October. -
I own an original paint F3 '52 Ford truck that is also green and the paint tag shows vermillion. It might have been a bad day for the color blind.

12-volt or 6-volt. Neg. or pos. ground?
nearchoclatetown replied to 1924DB's topic in Dodge & Dodge Brothers
Spark advance lever goes to retard, {down} position to start. You'll probably need the fuel enrichner {"choke"} pulled. PULL the hand crank UP from the full down position, making sure your thumb is on the same side as your fingers. Don't wrap your thumb around. I only pull up half a revolution, don't crank round and round. Do it as if you are trying to lift the front of the car with the hand crank, short, quick stroke. It WILL run. -

nearchoclatetown replied to 1924DB's topic in Dodge & Dodge Brothers
There's a cover over the brushes, you knew that. Clean the crud and whatever else is in there. Be careful what you spray on the armature. How about the hand crank? Watch the thumb. DBs start easy. -

This is not good, you guys don't have VWs too do you? Do you guys get the N-newsletter, it's full of great info? And what is the status report on the '24DB that started this mess, is it running YET?
