  1. Interesting thread. Here is a "real photo post card" from my collection of early car views that shows a circa 1910 Enger with its presumed owner and his passengers. An "Enger" script badge is affixed to the radiator. The card is blank on the back and was never mailed. Allcars
  2. There is/was a '26 Metropolitan Sedan for sale in Wichita Kansas recently. Try this Ebay Classified link: eBay Classifieds: View Large Image Or, search Chandler in Wichita on Ebay Classifieds. Don't know anything about the car except what's in the ad...just saw it and thought it seems like a nice, apparently original, and very rare car. Allcars

    Pawn Stars

Just for fun, I looked up the pricing...NADA book from back then shows the Imperial Convertible started at $6,146 in 1966; a loaded one would no doubt have crested seven grand, delivered. The Rolls Royce pricing for 1966 is harder to find. Appears that just under $20,000 would get a Silver Cloud III sedan or "saloon" delivered in the U.S. Another source says $26,500 for a Mulliner-bodied drop-head coupe.
  4. An original 1936 Buick dealer price sheet I have is annotated with curb weights...shows 4,379 lbs. for Series 80, presumably representing the basic standard-equipped Model 81 Sedan model. Sidemounts were extra cost and probably not included in the weight given...if you have a six-wheel equipped car, add maybe 100-150 lbs. to cover the one extra wheel and tire, dual covers and mounting parts, etc. Radio and heater were options, too, and would add a few more pounds. Hope this helps.
  5. Interesting thread about the early Reo. Coincidentally, a late 1905 (per the auction listing) single-cylinder Reo Runabout (engine #1138) is to be offered at auction in California on Nov. 13. It has a nifty and apparently original flip-and-stow rear seat. A later 2-cylinder Reo touring is also to be offered. Both are from the estate of the late Bud Ekins, a well-known car/bike stunt man and early motorcycle collector. Here's the link to the Bonham's page on the '05: Lot Details
  6. See this posting... 1940 Buick Drive Train Just happened to see it last night...no knowledge of the seller or condition of items he has for sale. Good luck!
  7. Grandpa... I've sent you an email containing a link to photos of a strap from my '40 66-C. Parts book confirms same as for '41.
  8. Am looking at a '40 60 Special...good metal but wood body sills are rotted. My question is...does it require removal of the body to replace these? Have any of you replaced them yourself? Comments and advice welcomed! Thanks. Allcars
  9. The '50 Roadmaster Convertible is a very rare car, even rarer than its low production would suggest. For inspiration, here is a photo of one I formerly owned. It was completely original including the excellent paint and somewhat worn top and interior. The interior was grey and red leather. The car was sold about six years ago. It was recently offered on Ebay by the present owner, following a frame-on restoration, with a starting bid of $80,000. Don't know if it sold. Good luck with the project...if you saw it through to completion, you would have one of a handful of '50 Roadmaster Convertibles on the road today. The '50s are fun to own because everyone over 60 remembers them. One guy told me the big toothy grille frightened him so much when he was a child that, if he encountered one when walking with his dad, he would insist on crossing the street to get as far away from it as possible!

  12. Is it Buick?<o></o> I've had this NOS Heavy cast part in a box of Buick stuff for 40 years. It weighs approx. 4.5 lbs. Is it a front door vent window base (looks like it has a "bump" for the vent window latch)? Image is looking at it from above mounted position, I believe. <o></o> <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--><o></o> Numbers on part: 4874589 and 5715083 LH T<o></o> <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--><o></o> Length: approx 24 inches.<o></o> <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> Thanks! <!--EndFragment-->
  13. The 1941 Buick Brunn Custom Brougham town car belonged to Buick dealer and collector Marv Tamaroff when shown at Eyes on Design and other metro Detroit area events in the mid-1990s. He has since sold off a number of his Buicks and classics. I do not know if he still has the Brunn car. I wrote an article about the 1940 Brunn Townmaster for Special Interest Autos #51 (June 1979). I first became aware of the car in the mid-1960s, through the 1940 National Geographic ad dedicated to its promotion. In the mid-1970s, I recognized the car in a listing of six estate vehicles advertised in a Sunday NY Times classified ad. A couple of years later, I was pleased to encounter the beautifully original Townmaster on the show field at an Indianapolis car show. The photos accompanying my SIA article were taken there. The car belonged at that time to an Indiana hotel owner/car collector (now deceased). Not long after that, it was obtained by the present owner, a very keen Buick enthusiast. He has kept it well conserved, I understand. An excellent article on the Townmaster when new appeared in a 1940 issue of Buick Magazine. There are also photographs and illustrations of 1940 and 1941 Roadmaster Convertibles with Brunn custom bodywork. The bodies are quite similar and I have wondered if there was perhaps actually only one body built, which might have been updated to a 1941 configuration. During the mid-1970s, I talked several times with a Buick collector from the Fargo, ND area who told me he had owned the 1941 Brunn Roadmaster Convertible in the mid-1950s. He said the car burned up after catching on fire while he was driving it, due to a fuel leak. That was in 1958, if I recall his story correctly.
  14. From the album: Cadillac/LaSalle

1978 Cadillac Seville San Remo. One of approx. 30 made 1978-79 by Coach Design Group of California. Sold May 2012.
  15. Set of five genuine Buick 40-spoke wires, 15 x 6-inch size. Correct for 1953-54 Skylark and 1954-1955-1956 Series 60 Century, 50 Super and 70 Roadmaster. Often used on 1957 Buicks as well, and on many other cars, hot rods, etc. These wheels need to replated but are in exceptional condition otherwise...the rims are not bent or chipped, lug and locator pin holes are excellent. The chrome is bad on the inset of the rim faces but otherwise they are really pretty good. These wheels are extremely clean and appear to either be deteriorated NOS or were an excellent set of cores that were replated once and never mounted, but have started to peel anyway. They don't appear to have had tubes or tires mounted since new or restoration. The close-up photo shows some of the worse chrome lifting on the rims...all five have this to some degree in this area of the rim, but this one is the worst. Please note one more time:THESE WHEELS NEED REPLATING. But, they are without a doubt among the finest sets of unrestored cores you'll ever find. Four of the wheels are date coded 9/55 and one is date coded 3/56. (The date codes are on the inside of the rims and cannot be seen once tires are mounted.) NO spinners or lug bolts are included. I am looking for $600 firm for the set. I don't want to pack and ship them...they are offered for pick up only! I live just northeast of Detroit, about an hour and half north of Toledo/I-80 (Ohio Turnpike) and might be able to meet a buyer near Toledo who is going to, or coming from Hershey, etc. Call me at 586.212.6057 to discuss. Thanks. Terry
  16. One of the Auburn ambulances is prominently featured in a circa 1940 Hollywood movie. I've seen the film on TCM a couple of times...(sorry, thought I made a note of the film's name, but don't have it at hand if I did). Its one of those mad-cap comedies of the era and has quite a few Los Angeles street scenes in it.
  17. For our purposes, its a 1935-1940s 3-window coupe with a roofline that more or less flows into the rear deck. Some examples include: 1935-36 Ford Deluxe 3-window 1934-37 Hupmobile Aerodyanmic 3-window 1937-41 Lincoln-Zephyr 3-window 1935-36 Pontiac, Olds, Buick ('36 only) 3-windows 1934-36 LaSalle; 1936 Cadillac 3-windows 1941-42 Willys Americar 3-window 1936-37 Studebaker 3-window Thanks for asking!
  18. The Meadow Brook Concours is looking for a 1935-36 Ford DeLuxe 3-window coupe to include in a Concours display of 1930s streamlined "swoopy coupes." The Concours will be held Sunday, August 2 at Meadow Brook Hall in Rochester, Michigan. (See www.meadowbrookconcours.org for additional details.) Meadow Brook is one of top ranked Concours nationally and is a wonderful experience for exhibitors. Cars are shown by invitation only. There is no charge to the owner for exhibiting. If you have, or know of, a suitable, exceptionally fine 1935 or 1936 DeLuxe 3-window that could be shown in Michigan on August 2, please nominate it for the event by emailing me with some details of the car...color, equipment, date of restoration, show history, etc. A digital photo or two would be most helpful. Nominations will be reviewed by the Concours selection committee on June 2. Please respond to tsboyce@wowway.com Thank you. Terry Boyce

  21. Need to remove the radiator from our '40 Century Series 60 this week for repair. Can anyone answer a couple of questions about removing the hood that are not clearly addressed in the shop manual? ...Do I need to get under the dash to loosen the end piece on the body cowl that the center hood hinge fits into? Or does the hinge just slide out once I have it loose at the front? ...It looks like I need to detach the underhood cowling above the radiator and then lift it off with the hood still attached to it...correct? Thanks for any tips and answers!
  22. FYI, There is an RM auction coming up with at least four Ford Cabriolets--a '34, '35, '36 and '37. The sale is the RM Auction Classic Car Auction of Michigan, April 26 - 27, held at The Rock Financial ShowPlace in Novi, Michigan, 48374. These are cars from the Bud Mick collection, which were just recently added to the sale. Go to RMAuctions.com for details.
  23. One Saturday morning in the mid-'70s, I was delegated to take my employer's '26 Minerva Town Car to the local filling station, to gas it up for a tour. As I was standing beside the massive classic, a middle-aged gentleman and a youngster of five or so walked past on the nearby sidewalk. "Look, Jimmy," I heard the man say, "It's a Model A Ford just like grandpa had when I was a boy."
  24. Before asking my question, I wanted to mention that I greatly appreciate those members who have worked extensively on older Buicks and share their insights, tips and experiences. It is really helpful to have this information "preserved" in this forum...thank you, guys! Now, here's a question about my '40 Century: My Buick Master Parts Books shows two gas tanks for the 1940 Buick Century (and other 1940 models, as well). Apparently, there was a 17-gallon tank on early production cars and a 20 gallon tank on later 1940 cars. The frame number on my Century indicates it is an early car with 17-gallon tank. I am preparing to order a reproduction gas tank for it. I assume the repro is the 20-gallon style, as it fits later cars as well. The question is, will a 20-gallon tank fit my "early" car and, if so, will it require different straps?
