  1. No, it wasn't our '40, but it may have been it's twin. I have talked to the man who did the work on our car and who sold it to the man we bought it from in 1985. He said he had done a show restoration on an identical car at almost the same time he was working on ours ? I think both cars were sold at Hershey in ?85. The restorer was and is from the Cleveland area. Our car is actually fairly original -- untouched underneath (but seems solid), a lot of what seems to be original components, including the Fisher Body rubber mat with carpet inserts on the floor (that has to be uncommon), the correct 40/60 series cowl antenna, 9-39 date-coded glass including the windshield and such. It has never had an outside rearview mirror installed. It was basically painted, had seats covered and had a new top back in 1985. He said he obtained the car from an estate in the Canadaigua, New York area. The engine is detailed but I don't think is was rebuilt, although it seems to run fairly well -- needs a carb rebuild, though. The fellow we bought it from had done very little to it since 1985. It shows 77,000 miles. We'll have to get down to Doug Seybold's sometime soon to talk Buicks (we're in the Detroit area). I enjoy your ?41 restoration website and it will have new relevance now as we start to do some upgrades/maintenance on the '40.
  2. Best looking Buick ever? Depends on the day of the week! A black '48 Roadmaster Sedanette is one of my personal favorites. '63 Riviera ... or maybe the '66, or what about a red '65 Wildcat Sport Coupe? '31 8-94 Roadster gets me when I'm in the right mood, and I think '33s are really elegant and well-designed. And I love that '37 Century Coupe. But, tonight, I'd have to say the '40 Century Convertible Coupe, which 70 Electra mentioned in his post. The car transporter just delivered it to me here in Michigan today...had to drive it a short distance in the snow to storage, hence the winter photo. It looked really nice in the sunshine. I wish I had a '40 Roadmaster Convertible to compare it to, I'm sure I'd enjoy forever trying to decide which I like best!
  3. You can view a film of the 50-millionth car parade on line (if the digital gods are favoring you) at: http://www.archive.org/movies/details-db.php?collection=prelinger&collectionid=07784 or just go to www.archive.org and search for "Flint." There are other GM films on there as well.
  4. Selling our '88 Electra Estate Wagon. Just under 100,000 miles and runs and drives great. New center link a couple of months ago. Very well cared for car that was apparently originally sold by Arnold Palmer Buick in Labtrobe, PA. We bought it in Ohio while on the way home to Michigan from Hershey last October. This is the big rear-drive V8 wagon. Has the original GM 307 4-barrel V8, 4-speed auto overdrive. Nicely loaded -- power locks, windows, split front seats, dual manual remote mirrors, AM/FM with cassette, etc., etc. Paint nice, little dull on hood and top. Chrome, wood grain and interior generally excellent - headliner has a few mars in back. Car must have been garaged its whole life until the past few months, it is really clean. No real body damage, even remarkably few dings, etc. There is a soft spot inside the jamb area at the tailgate and some underhood corrosion. The spare tire well had some plastic in it, which I cracked backing over a rock beside my drive way when the car was loaded with Buick literature during our recent move! (It can easily be filled again). Doors are excellent. A/C not working right now. Can provide more details. These are not easy to find in this condition anymore and it should go another hundred thousand miles with proper care. Can email more photos to seriously interested. Asking $2400. Car is in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. Call me at 586-212-6057.
  5. My friend Bob Lichty has just opened a collector car store in Canton. He told me he has a '56 Special 2-dr. hardtop that is a real decent car. I think it is peach and apricot two-tone. Paint is dull. His place is called Portfolio and you can find it by searching for Lichty and Portfolio on Google. I haven't seen the car and know nothing about it ... just remembered your ad when he told me about it today -- he was up here in Michigan for the Meadow Brook auction. Best, Terry Boyce Here's contact info for Portfolio: 866-653-8900 Phone 330-453-8901 Fax Mailling Address: Motor Car Portfolio 320 Market Avenue South Canton Marriott Lower Level Canton, OH 44702
  6. For sale: 1987 Buick Estate Wagon, dark blue with full black leather-type padded roof. Believe it was built as a funeral home service car. Dark blue cloth interior. Buick aluminum wheels. NO woodgrain side trim from factory. Probably has around 100,000 miles. Original-type 307 V8, automatic, most power stuff. Relative bought several years ago, then parked it when water pump went out a couple of years ago. New water pump ($250) last fall, but car not used since and (new) battery is dead, tires may need air, etc. Jump-started and ran in the past few weeks; operating condition beyond that unknown. Needs tinkering - non-operative wipers, etc. Windshield seal leak leaked into left front seat area this past winter. Very straight old B-body GM wagon, not too beat up. Paint dull on hood and rough on tailgate, otherwise not bad. Leather top is good. Scarce car without the wood paneling. Could make a great driver or even a hauling street machine -- has a lean, mean look to it. I can provide digital pictures if there is interest. You really should come look at it, though. Car in Detroit near Wayne State University. Sold as is, where is. First $700 cash on the hood takes it - or bring offer, it has to go soon. Email me at boyce709@comcast.net for more details. Thanks.
  7. John ... I think it is a '38. The center strip and emblem design look like a '38 grille and the ornament is consistent with the 1938 style. The Septemeber, 1937 issue of Buick Magazine shows two heaters for 1937 models, both of which are different from the one you've pictured. There was a Deluxe heater and a Master heater, the later being smaller and "recommended for milder climates." These same two heaters are shown in the 1938 salesperson's facts book and the December, 1937 announcement number for 1938 models, but perhaps the artwork had not been updated for 1938 cars (or a newer style heater was released later than the print date for these early 1938 model year publications). The 1939 heater had the 1939 Buick badge, pointed at the bottom, in the 1939-40 style, on one door, I believe. (I had a very early '40 Special Convertible with a '39 heater of that description.) The 1939 heaters were not shown in any of the '39 Buick magazines I have, but it does call out as "Buick Air Control" and "Master" heaters in the options list, suggesting there was not a "Deluxe" heater for 1939. Summation: We know it's not a '37 or '40; very unlikely a '39 -- which takes us back to 1938. Terry
  8. Here's my question: I'm wondering if there are any of the very limited production big T-head Buicks from 1908-1910 in existence today? The Model 5, 6A, and 7 used a similar T-head engine, I believe. Thanks. Terry
  9. We're planning to drive the '50 up from Detroit, followed by a "chase" vehicle. Can we park the chase vehicle in the trailer parking, or will there be plenty of public parking available? Thanks! Terry B.
  10. About 10 years ago there was a spectacular professionally restored white1961 Lincoln Continental Sedan in the car corral at Hershey. I'm helping an associate seeking to locate such a vehicle to be displayed in a special car show event honoring the designer in the Detroit area on Sunday, June 22nd. Does anyone know what became of the car I'm thinking of? Or, if you own it or another concours-quality 1961 or 1962 Lincoln Sedan and might be interested in showing it at the June 22nd event, let me know and I will provide additional information. Thanks. boyce709@comcast.net
  11. On Sunday, June 22, Eyes On Design and GM will celebrate the 75th anniversary of GM Design and the grand opening of the new GM Vehicle Engineering Center with a special car show event. The location will be at the GM Design campus within the GM Tech Center in Warren, Michigan (just north of Detroit). More than 150 concept cars, accompanied by select groupings of production vehicles, will be on display. We are members of the Vehicle Selection Committee and are seeking factory-stock, concours or national-award winning Chevrolets for the Chevrolet display. <span style="font-weight: bold">All display cars will be shown by invitation only. </span> The following is a list of the specific Chevrolet models we are looking for.
