  1. Thanks, Steve and Keith...I'm ordering an August '95 issue from the BCA today.
  2. My 1940 Roadmaster convertible model 76C was advertised in the BCA Bugle sometime during 1995, probably during the first half of the year. It was shown in a larger than normal classified section photo ad and offered by the then owner, Peter, who lived in southern California. I believe the ad described how the car had come into the seller's family on Jan. 2, 1942. The ad may have run in more than one issue, possibly a year or so before (i.e., during 1994). I'm seeking a complete issue with the ad, just the page with the ad (and the date it ran), or a good photocopy or scan of the ad showing my car. Thanks!
  3. Another '40 76S sold on Ebay recently...a rough but very restorable car. I had a chance to look it over before it was sold and noticed it was a (Southgate) California build, body no. 499...just one car before #500 that was discussed here. Not many 76S Coupes around, so knowing of two sequential survivors was kinda neat, I thought. Here's a link to the SOLD eBay car. Don't know who got it or where it went. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1940-Buick-Roadmaster-/121333904416?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&forcerrptr=true&hash=item1c40107420&item=121333904416&nma=true&si=C8b9NPd5rwCGWJ3gi6Qeu8hW9cg%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
  4. Drove our '40 Roadmaster over to a friend's house for a summer car-guys (and gals) get-together this afternoon. Perfect top-down day in Michigan.
  5. Good "Fourth of July" color scheme there...
  6. Nice car show at the Sloan Museum in Flint yesterday, but sad to see only a few pre-war straight-eight Buicks were present. Look what I found in the swap meet, though... Still almost full, don't know if its good to use or not. But I sure like the can.
  7. Thanks for sharing the photo, Jeff.
  8. Richard Harrison aka "The Old Man" bought a very nice looking and seemingly very original 1933 Plymouth Coupe with sidemounts and, I believe, a trunk rack, in the 10/13/2014 episode of Pawn Stars. The paint was rubbed through in places, but that only made it more attractive if it is original paint. Don't know what he did with it. Think he paid just under $20,000 for it. You might contact the the Harrison family's Gold & Silver Pawn Shop in Las Vegas and ask them about it.
  9. Louis Chevrolet drove a Model 16 Buick racer to several important wins for the Buick racing team. FYI, here's a link to a wonderful vintage photo of a new, or nearly new, Buick Model 16 Tourabout (aka Surrey), taken in September, 1910 at Dorrance, Kansas: http://www.kansasmemory.org/item/1497/page/1
  10. FYI, here's a link to a Craigslist for sale ad offering what appears to be a decent 1928 Erskine Coupe with Rumbleseat...not mine, haven't seen it or talked to owner. Not many Erksines out there, I assume, so thought I'd post it... http://detroit.craigslist.org/wyn/cto/4379274376.html It seems to be in Wayne, Michigan...west of Dearborn.
  11. My 1940 Buick's engine has a Collins & Leary plate attached to the right-hand side of the block. It indicates that the Bridgeport, CT shop rebuilt the engine at some time in the past. Online research reveals that Collins & Leary was in business from 1926 until sometime fairly recently. From what I know of my car's history, it would have been before 1972, for certain, that their work on my engine was done. Does anyone recall Collins & Leary, or has anyone seen a similar plate attached to an engine before? I'd really like to narrow down the date range for the rebuild, but would welcome any comments regarding additional history about Collins & Leary. Thanks!
  12. Images show a car horn made by Sparton. Data plate says it is a Model L-S and it is marked 1932. Thought it might be LaSalle, but a '32 LaSalle owner told me years ago that Sparton was not the OEM manufacturer. Could it be an aftermarket replacement? Or, is it only coincidental that Sparton designated it "Model L-S"? Witness marks on horn trumpet show it passed through a headlamp stanchion, as on the LaSalle that year, but on some other cars, too. Overall length 12.5 inches. Trumpet cone 5 inches in diameter. Wondering if any one has info as to what kind of car(s) the horn was originally made for? Thanks! Terry
  13. John, I have sent you an email about the cap. Best, Allcars
  14. Thanks, guys, for solving another auto image mystery!
  15. Here's a hubcap I'm trying to identify. It is blown up from a body builder's prototype or proposed sedan photo, dated April 1928. The tire size was 6:00 x 18. The contrast has been enhanced to give a better look at the detail. Can't make out the name, but the modified triangle shape logo -- which might be a stylized "A" or "V" depending on how you look at it -- is clear enough. I'm fairly confident it is not a Hudson or Essex. Thanks for looking.
  16. PRICE REDUCED: Any interest at $60? Thanks.
  17. VINTAGE 1929 BUICK REPLACEMENT HUBCAPS These are from a Buick friend's estate. Set of four pressed aluminum screw-on hubcaps for a 1929 Buick. Made when '29 Buicks were used cars. They DO NOT have the "Buick" script lettering found on the factory hubcaps, but otherwise seem identical to originals. Show relatively light use and will look nice on a driver-quality car. They do have slightly varying degrees of wear, including minor dings, etc. (see photos). One has been polished up on the face...you can see how shiny it came out. The black and red paint fills have no doubt been redone. The caps have an outside diameter of approx. 4 ¼” and are about 1 3/4” high, with 3 3/8”- 16 threads. Buick used at least two hub sizes in '29, depending on the series, so please be certain these are the correct size for your application (think they are for the smaller series cars). I don't have a hub to try these on, so cannot guarantee they will screw on "as-is." Price: $75 plus shipping. Thanks.
  18. For what it's worth, this apparently original-equipment 7:00x15 double-whitewall U.S. Royal tire that still resided in the RH fenderwell of my former '40 66C Century Convertible when I owned it had a 3-inch whitewall on each side.
  19. If there is a nice deck lid for a 1940 Buick Series 50/70 Super/Roadmaster Coupe/Convertible, please let your lot buyer know I'm looking for same. Would also be interested in an excellent hood for '40 Series 70 Roadmaster. Could pick up at the Michigan location. Thanks!
  20. Have two running board moldings that appear Buick—'39 or '40? (see images). They are 70 inches long. Front and back ends are slightly different...one end has a slightly shorter and more pronounced curvature. Because they are identical, I don't think they are a pair, rather they may be two for the same side of whatever year/model they were used on? Thanks for looking.
  21. Sadly, an accident in Wichita has claimed the life of a long-time car collector: A last ride in a 1941 Packard for a man who loved cars | Wichita Eagle
  22. As I recall the '55 Roadmaster, it was sky blue below the beltline and had a white top.
  23. You might try a BCA membership directory to locate a Hutchinson-area Buick Club member who could possibly help. I lived in Hutchinson during 1979-80, and there was a very well preserved one-owner blue '55 Roadmaster 2-door hardtop there at that time. It belonged to the original owner and had been parked in his garage for years, so long that a large fir tree was partially blocking the entrance. The home where the Buick was located was across the street from the school my son attended. I had noticed the tree blocking the garage door and would tell my wife, "I bet there's an old Buick in that garage." One morning when we arrived to drop our son off for school, the garage was open...and there was the '55 Roadmaster! I inquired and was told it wasn't for sale. The man also owned a '42 Chrysler New Yorker, a sedan he'd also bought new, if I recall correctly. It was kept at a different location. It would be neat if it turned out "your" '55 was the same Buick I remember from more than 30 years ago. I have lived in Michigan since 1986 and don't have any remaining car friends in 'Hutch' who could help out with your search. Good luck!
