  1. I just had to do this for a car that was in a barn here in Massachusetts since 1951. Mass is an extra fun because the main thing with them is sales tax which was instituted in 1968. I ended up making about 5 trips to the registry of motor vehicles and it took 2 months but I now have a title. It required the following: 1. Affidavit from the seller stating that the car has not been registered since 1951 and was never titled. 2. Affidavit from me stating when I bought it and what the purchase price was. 3. Copy of probate document establishing that seller had right to sell car (was from his dad's estate). 4. Massachuetts vehicle inspection form filled out by police verifying VIN number. There may have been some other stuff but it was a nightmare. A.J.
  2. There is a nice set of wheels on ebay right now: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayIS...B%3ASS%3AUS%3A1
  3. Walter, Post a picture and I'm sure somebody can help identify the year. The BB is 28. You can tell for sure by the serial number which if not on the title can be found by removing the rear bumper and looking at the right frame horn where the bumper mounts. The engine has a number stamped on the plate attached to the valve cover. As engines maybe swapped this is not always full proof but thats easier to look at then taking off the bumper. A.J.

    Anybody?

Front fenders look like 35/36 Auburn. My guess would be a pieced together one-off. A.J.
  5. Are the 27 Wooden wheels the same? I think I have a pair. A.J.
  6. Does anyone have any recommendations for steering wheel remolding? I have a 28 Stutz wheel that the hard rubber is cracked (badly) that I would like to have recast. thanks, A.J.
  7. Here is a picture of the Mormon Meteor at Indy in 1946. I posted a couple of others at http://www.townisp.com/MormonMeteor.html

  9. Bob, The NADA guide is worthless when it comes to musclecars. You could argue it is the tulip bubble all over again, but right now the car he is selling is probably worth north of 100k without too much trouble. There are matchbox cars that can bring 20k or more. When you think about it, we are all insane. What ebay should do is immediately escrow 1k when any auction over 25k (or some reasonable number) closes. The buyer would have to prove absolute fraud to get his 1k back. Buying a junker (not this one, but as an example) you thought was nice doesn't count as fraud - at least in my book as you should have inspected the car first A.J.
  10. Definitely not odd. That car at auction would bring over 3 million. A.J.
  11. The hard rubber one was introduced in 28 and the rubber on mine is cracked bad in about 4 spots. I'm pretty sure the box is the earlier one but I would have to check. A.J.

    28 Parts Wanted

Looking for the following for 28 BB. 1. One more more 20 inch Buffalo wires. 2. Nice steering wheel - or has anyone had theirs restored and can recommend someone? Mine is cracked in 5 places. This is the hard rubber one. thanks, A.J.

    1928(ish) Stutz

Hi, By split rim wheel do you mean the wood spoke one or the Buffalo wire wheel? If it is the Buffalo wire wheel I'm interested in that as I need one more. regards, A.J.
  14. Each concours is a little different, but they are almost all fundraisers. It used to be that bringing a car didn't cost anything (other than whatever it cost to get the car there) but many now require donations on exhibitors part depending on how many people you bring on top of the car (the show is providing food and drink so this makes sense). It is almost always fun but never take the judging too seriously as there is ususally not an objective system like the CCCA. A.J.
  15. I asked George the exact same question and he said there were three known cars, which are the ones you folks have mentioned above. I agree with Jon that there may be another hidden in a barn somewhere. It is always amazing what turns up. A.J.
  16. This past Saturday the New England region of the CCCA had a tech seminar (which was very well done) at Holman Engineering is Springfield Mass. George Holman is well known for racing Stutzes and had a original blower setup on a dyno. In my files I had an original article from Motor magazine about the new optional Stutz blower for $1500.00. I've posted a picture of the engine on the dyno as well as the article on my website. It is interesting comparing the Stutz setup to the Mercedes 500k/540k blower as they are quite similar. Anyway, I thought people might find it interesting. http://www.townisp.com/~alsancle/StutzSuperCharger.html A.J.

  18. Dave, thanks! I still say 180 based on 2 out of 3 :-). A.J.
  19. Assuming they are the same body, condition and price you would be insane not to buy the 180. 1. The 180 is a full forty horsepower greater than the 120. 2. The 180 is accepted as a full CCCA classic. 3. When you go to resell it you will have a better chance of recouping your money as the 180 cars are a definite premium over the 120 cars. regards, A.J.
  20. I have one good shot of the drivers side which shows 4 downdraft carbs. I need to get permission to post it which hopefully I will be able to do but if you had one of those (for the single overhead cam engine) I would appreciate it. Fortunetly we still have the remains of the original outside exhaust manifold so that won't be too hard to reproduce. thanks, A.J.
  21. I will make a note to myself to measure it and get the numbers off of it. regards, A.J.
  22. West, It is what I believe an early 30s straight 8 when the distributor came out of the head. I would charitably say it needs a complete rebuild. Do you need one? A.J.
  23. I was able to track down the complete history of this car. I have updated my website at http://townisp.com/~alsancle with all the info. A.J.
  24. Actually, it ends up it was built by the same guy. I was able to track down the complete history of this car. I have updated my website at http://townisp.com/~alsancle with all the info. A.J.
