  1. These are neat but even if that car was free it would be a bad deal. Unless it was a R3 4 speed, then I might think differently.
  2. Matt, your comments are always spot on but you and I both know in the 5.0 engine in your wife's Mustang was the only reason you got that car for 23k (which is still a good deal btw). I can wait patiently for someone to post a link to a matching number 4 barrel/4 speed Mustang convertible for under 30k. This car had a floor replacement and is priced 5-8k to high. But there seems to be this notion Mustangs grow on trees (which is true for garden variety) but we are talking about a very specific narrow kind of Mustang.
  3. Cars are not liquid and require care and feeding or their value goes south. For an investment I would look elsewhere.
  4. I wonder what happened to Brad. I'm sorry to hear that.
  5. We are comparing apples and oranges. In the musclecar world engine and transmission is everything and a 4barrell/4speed car is worth a lot more than a 2 barrel/automatic car.
  6. Here is what 15k buys: http://www.ebay.com/itm/19680000-Ford-Mustang-Convertible-/141776983717?&_trksid=p2056016.l4276
  7. That is a dealer price for sure but have you guys paid any attention to factory/matching 4barrel 4 speed mustang convertible prices? Also, I'm not sure why there is this inference it is a rot box. I'm not seeing that at all.
  8. 30k would be a few pieces on some cars!
  9. The Mustang is a uni-body which means the integrity of the car comes from the entire structure. That said, most of the structural strength is in the rockers & tunnel and then partially in the floor. There is nothing necessarily horrible about the way this floor looks. Just not perfect as the rocker to floor joint looks a little messy. To me the bottom of this car does not look bad at all. I've been under more than a few rusty Mustangs. If you are looking in the 35k price range you will have a few choices. If a convertible with the 4 speed/4barrel combination is important then you will have a lot fewer choices. This does not look like a bad car but you should look at a bunch of different ones. Be sure to see the Marti report matches the car, doors shut correctly with good gaps and the torque boxes are not rusty or covered in undercoat.
  10. A rare 320N coming to auction. You always need to be particularly careful with the cars that came from eastern Europe. Any comments Henry? My comment is that the copy writer should say "Pocket sized 540K Cab A" not special roadster. In many ways, the Mercedes 320 two-door Cabriolet A really is a pocket-size 500/540K Spezial Roadster. The elegantly slanted split windscreen, the smooth sweep of the front and rear fender lines, as well as the gradually sloping rear deck with its continental-style spare wheel all manage to evoke its larger and hugely expensive sibling. A query to the Mercedes-Benz Classic archives has elicited the response that chassis 172289 was produced in the Daimler-Benz Mannheim plant. Unfortunately, all purchase order books of the Mannheim plant were destroyed during World War II. As a result, as with all chassis laid down in Mannhiem, there is no data available concerning chassis and engine numbers and the Kommissionsnummer. The noted German dealer in luxury classic cars, Eberhard Thiesen, discovered 172289 in Russia about 15 years ago. Under Mr. Thiesen's supervision, the car was restored in Lithuania. As Mr. Thiesen has also pointed out, since the Mannheim Mercedes factory records was lost during the war, it is unknown if the car had this body type from new. However, remains of the original body were with the car as found, and they suggested that the car did indeed have the special Cabriolet A bodywork with a vee windshield and sporting fenders. Furthermore, this 320 is built on the short W142/l or N type chassis. After the discovery, the body was reconstructed and a complete mechanical restoration was performed. All work was done under the supervision of Mr. Thiesen. A hard top comes with the car; a rare factory option for this era of motor car. The car has seen little use since its completion. The restoration presents near-fresh and reflects the quality of work that Eberhard Thiesen so adamantly insisted on. The silver livery complemented by soft saddle leather is very inviting, as are the white-faced classic instruments with silver bezels set in an elegant semi-oval surround in the thoughtfully polished wooden dashboard. Any red-blooded collector will be excited at the thought of getting behind the wheel of this rare car, settling into the comfortable seat and contemplating the unique view to the famous Mercedes tri-star along the length of the shapely bonnet.
  11. I agree with Matt & others that the price is high, but I think some are discounting the J code 4 speed combo which makes it much more desirable than 90% which are all 2 barrel automatics. The only issue I see with the underside is that the bottom edge of the rocker is fuzzy in the picture, that pinch weld is where you see issues. The torque boxes look great which I take as a sign the bottom of the car is pretty good. If you want a rust free 4 speed convertible you are going to spend money in any event.
  12. Not a bad idea as long as there was a provision for it in back somewhere.
  13. +1 that thing is cool. It would be even cooler minus the circus color and tires.
  14. In the age of very good cameras on many people's phones I always wonder when the pictures look like they were taken in 1880.
  15. Most of the cars will be out in tents in the parking lot. Some will be inside the Lodge. You won't be able to get in to the auction itself without a bidders pass which is a bit more complicated than buying the catalogue. The catalogue (150.00) used to get you in but I think space has become a big issue.
  16. Closer to every 11 seconds but a good point in any event.
  17. My first trip was 1987. Have been to the last 15 in a row. I will be in and about CT-22.
  18. I wonder how many people on here know Italian?
  19. If you can get away with some minor mechanics then it would be a decent car for someone. If you want to restore it you are in bad shape. A nicely (but not totally correct) restored and identical model brought 100k at Pebble.

  21. That must have been the world's greatest detail guy.
  22. Probably from the 1920s then? The wood is an odd feature otherwise it is very similar to 810 Cord.
  23. That is a sound plan and since that transmission was used for a few years you have a chance. Unfortunately for me my transmission is made of unobtanium so having a new second gear made was my only choice. First try didn't work and the gear guys are making another one. It seems my gears were timed and we didn't notice the timing marks.
  24. A new tag on an otherwise fairly honest looking car (save the 180/160 problem) is odd.
  25. Are you fabricating a new first gear? I've been experiencing that fun lately.
