More Buick haulin in Australia!

Plenty of Buicks get hauled around Australia. These photos go back to 2008 when a couple of us hauled our Buicks to a National Meet held in Queensland. The.articles were written by a visiting BCA member who was at the meet and were published in the BCA Pre War Division Newsletter..

From Master Parts list 1928 to 1946 Inclusive and from Master Parts 1930 to 1956. It indicates a change of part number for your dipstick to 1342302 - fits the same models.

Depression era photo. 1930 and 1932 Buicks both still in Police service in 1935. Have a look at the tread on the front tyre of the '32.

It would make him a better road user. It has always worried me that learning to drive ( in Australia ) doesn't include a component of mechanical understanding. I taught all 3 of my kids to drive in this!

Owen - the tabs on your upper hood appear to be sprung and opened up way to far. Refer to the 1st photo I posted which is of the top panel. You will see the tabs are closed right up tight around the rod. The side panel tabs interlock with the top panel tabs and you then drive the rod in from the end.

Always a problem on old cars. The centre hinge is different to the 2 sides and is held together by the centre stainless strip - hopefully yours is not damaged or rusted. Soak it with WD40 or similar and see if the stainless strip slides off. This will split the top section of the hood into two easier to handle sides. I have loaded a number of photos of a standard hood and a Century hood ( same but just 4" longer ) which should give you an idea of how it all works. The rod tends to rust solid in the hinge tags. The first problem is to remove the rod if it is rusted in place - a lot of soaking is required. In the past I have heated the tags and opened them up slightly with a wide bladed screwdriver but others here may have a better suggestion. Any tags that are broken off can be welded back on. Study the photos and ask about anything you don't understand. We are all anxious to see another 1936 back on the road.

Apologies for the quality but here are some interior shots of a 1936 Series 40 Coupe. The first 4 photos are from a restored car and shows nothing in the rear, just storage area. The last 3 are a different 1936 coupe supposedly original but has a shelf in the rear compartment.
