1. Hi, Jake... It appears you are inquiring about what was knick named a "suicide knob". If I am reading this correctly, they were optional equipment sold by every aftermarket auto store one could imagine (i.e...Pep Boys, etc.) They were popular to a degree in the '50's - 60's. If I recall, they were either frowned upon, or, consider illegal by inspection laws. (May be wrong?) Possibility of over-steering, shirt cuff catching on it, 2 hands on the wheel urged, and, so on... I am not allluding to my age, so as to recall exactly, but, I know Wayne Burgess is old enough to provide more details... Regards, Peter J.
2. Mark...Welcome to the Forum! I do not have the knowledge to answer you, however, if you click on the "Search" area at the top of the page, punch in "bolts", when prompted click on "All...". You will find a miriad of posts on this subject. It has surfaced many times over the years. Ron Barnett and others, are very knowledgeable concerning bolts. I am confident you will here from some good sources shortly... Regards, Peter J.
3. Bob...thanks for starting the thread. As Bob mentioned, this is a great venue, especially, for Military Vehicle interests. The variety present every year is incredible. A good friend, Ron Flory, had his '60 Impala at the Car Show segment last year. The Chevy and other cars, as well, are placed around the Aircraft for great photo opportunities. Ron and Judy Flory gave the show segment high marks for a good time, not to mention, so many interesting Aircraft, Reenactments, Vintage WWII Aircraft, and, the Museum's Aircraft collection. Too much to mention here. Any of you DF'ers making the trek, post here, and, we could arrange to meet somewhere. Regards, Peter J.
4. K8096... The host hotel is the Wyndham/Dublin. Go the the Antique Automobile Club of America Home Page, scroll down to Regions & Chapters On-Line, scroll down to "Ohio", click on their Home Page on the left and there you will find an extremely detailed listing of the itinerary, hotels, etc. Regards, Peter J.
5. Folks...thought I would post a reminder to get your trailer(s)ready for the meet/touring season. (Lube, Inspection, Lighting and Brake checks) I was sitting here thinking my cars are up-to-snuff when it dawned on me my trailer inspection expired in February. (Should anyone digress to the age old Trailer Queen subject, I attend 10-12 meets per year and tow to about 5 due to miles involved.) Regards, Peter J.
6. 67...only based upon the context of your query. Emphasis was made on the 23-T. ("T-bucket (?), my interpretation.) Please accept my apology. It is difficult at times to maintain the course of this AACA Forum. Getting back to business, Welcome Aboard! Regards, Peter J.
7. This is the Antique Automobile Club of America's forum (Mission: Preservation of Vehicles). My advise would be to go to websites that cater to hot rods, low riders, and, your state's DMV. Regards, Peter J.
8. Hi, Jake... I believe many of us have been down that pike concerning judges. You have to remember, AACA Judges put a lot of time and expenditures out of their own pockets into doing the best job possible with "total fairness" in mind. They actually go out of their way to score a vehicle to the benefit of the owner. Granted, there will be times when human error enters the equation. In such cases, you, as a member, can write a letter to the VP of Class Judging, however, in my limited knowledge of these situations, I have never met anyone who had a judging decision reversed. This is not to say it has not happened, just in my experiences. I would advise that you contact the AACA Headquarters and purchase a "Judging Manual", which spells out all the rules, duties of judges, classes of vehicles...you name it. (I believe the latest cost of the manual is $4.50-5.00) AACA National Headquarters P.O. Box 417 501 W. Governor Road Hershey, PA 17033 Phone: 717-534-1910 Regards, Peter J.
9. Jim, you can leave your post here. Your call. Why not post it in the new Calendar area, too. Regards, Peter J.
10. 18OLDS...Welcome to the Forum!! The detailed information Dave provided to you are indicative of the experienced folks on this AACA Forum. Regards, Peter J.
11. Claire...sincerely glad that you found the required information. To anyone reading this thread, Howard Scotland's reply is an excellent case example of what is available to AACA Members in utilizing the Library & Research Center. Every media is available: Micro-film, hard & soft bound books, magazines, VCR, CD, and, too many resources to list. (Not to mention human voice.) Since our club's inception in 1935, thousands of members have donated an incredible amount of automotive data. Guaranteed, the material within the L&R Center is an under-utilized research tool at your disposal. The trend within cyberspace is naturally go to the web. Try simply using "your" club resources first. It may save you valuable time in that you will eliminate a miriad of confusing opinions relative to your query. Regards, Peter J.
12. Hi, Claire...nice to hear from you again. Have you contacted the AACA Library & Research Center? Kim Miller: 717-534-1910 Our club's library is extensive. Wish the best, Peter J.
13. Hi, David...Welcome to the Forum. Your call, but, you could leave this post here, and, also post it in the Chrysler Products section (scroll down the main page)and there is a Dodge Products title. Sorry about the loss of your father. Someone will more than likely be offering assistance to the starting problem shortly. Regards, Peter J.
14. Idle... You are not being petty. In reality, you are asking a darn good, over-due question, of which, benefits the "newbies" to the site. Steve, Janet, Terry Bond on-board, and, the Internet Committee as a whole, are working to update our site. The way I look at it, is, the site is going from infancy to the next level. Let's face it, you, me, and, many others have become accustomed to eachother's input and personalities over the years. All of us have contributed interesting thoughts on a miriad of subjects, that, hopefully, assisted someone along the line. Regards, Peter J.
15. Idle...hope all is well. Cannot answer for PeterG, however, I offer my input... Changes are on the horizon...this AACA website, as well as any other postition within the AACA from President-on-down the pecking order is "volunteer time". The Internet Committee is working hard, planning, and, so on, to revamp, and/or, improve this site. I have absolutely nothing to do with the decisions mentioned above, just passing on our "Club" officials charges. As for the time frame, please be patient. Regards, Peter J. Heizmann
16. Looks great, Bob...bet it turned some heads towing it home... Regards, Peter.
17. I stand corrected, Thomas...(thanks, Howard) Inaccurately suggested "Oakland" (long day, friend)... The request form and instructions are easy to use within the Library & Research Center section. The archives our club retains as a service to members in answering such questions is enormous. Regards, Peter J.
18. Hello, Thomas...nice to hear from you. We can see what response is generated within the General Forum for a few days. You could also post it in the "Technical Questions" area if response is nonexistent/unsatifactory. Also, on the main AACA Forum, you can scroll down to the Library & Research icon where you will find instructions on how to request info from Kim Miller and staff. Also, you could post your query in the AACA "sanctioned" Pontiac / Oakland section at the bottom of the Forum main page. Regards, Peter J.
19. Hi, CrestaMan... Just a suggestion. We can leave your post here for a few days to see what responses you receive. The AACA Library & Research Center has extensive literature available to members (On the AACA site, scroll down to the Library and Research icon. Instructions are readily available on how to request information from Kim Miller and staff.) You could also post it in the AACA Forum "sanctioned" Cadillac / La Salle Club area (scroll down the main page and you will see it.) You could also post it in the AACA General Forum "Tech Questions", too. Regards, Peter J.
20. Though only there for 4 hours on Friday, it was great. Good to see many friends. The DF lunch went well, I agree. For next year, I suppose there will be conversation to see what folks want to do. (Find a replacement for St. George's, stay at the Wyndam venue, move it to Saturday, etc.) With close to 1200 thread views (2 pages) to discuss a DF lunch tells me it is a tradition that must be carried on... Hope everyone has had, or, will have a safe trip home. Regards, Peter J.
21. Jose...Welcome to the Forum. Shortly, you should receive good information from knowledgeable people. To join the AACA would open many doors, such as the Library & Research Center. Please do yourself a favor and join. Membership information can be found on the Main Page. Regards, Peter J.
22. Hi, Bob..."Great points". Hopefully, some inquisitive folks down the pike will take it to heart. Regards, Peter J.
23. mchaplin, and, others... The subject of Trailers, Towing experiences, etc., has been discussed at length over the years on the Forum. Click on the "Search" area at the top of the page, pound in "Trailers", or, "Towing" and you will find a miriad of posts on all sorts of tips. Regards, Peter J.
24. Sky, that sounds like it was quite an adventure. I know the area of the George Washington Bridge/Cross Bronx Expressway isn't exactly a great neighborhood. Used to pour castings for the Morgan Corporation and other straight bodied trucks. (Aluminum front top corner L & R half-moons.) I was informed that the wooden floors come from hardwood farms in Malaysia for practically every rental truck manufacturer as we know them in the States. At least the floors are definitely solid due to the abuse they are subjected to, however... Regards, Peter J.
25. Sky... That's pretty ingenious. Is that a rental truck? The only problem you may have is if the truck breaks down in the middle of nowhere. U-Haul will send out a towtruck. Under their agreement, if the tow truck operator finds out a car is in it, they will make you unload the car, leave it on the side of the road, or, they will not tow the truck. I asked them a few years ago and that is what the clerk told me. How do you tie it down? as no rental trucks have "D rings". Regards, Peter J.
