  1. Got Grey pulled out today for wheel and tire swap, since I needed to pull a flat tire off my truck for repair and already had the jack and lug wrench out, and it was clear and a balmy 29 degrees.  Finally got some full pictures as "almost done" too.

    Hi,
Does anyone know where I can get Buick quarter panels for the 2dHT project?

They seem to be very difficult to find and at least not easier for me, because I need them in Finland ......

Do you need just patch panels for the bottom or the whole quarter?  I know a guy that may possibly have patch panels.

While the seller of this car obviously took you for a ride and you over paid for what you actually got, once you get the items fixed it should be a lovely car and serve you well.

Agreed.  And the surprises really aren't that big in the scheme of things.  Why fix everything just to get rid of it?  As was pointed out before, assume every old car you get will have a few gremlins.  But, having such a well-preserved low mileage car they should be few.  The scizzor top will likely be only thing that may remain tempermental over time, if top goes up and down a lot.

  4. I found enough time today on my last day off work from my Christmas break to make some more progress.  First, I finally reinstalled the rear inner fenders, which needed to be off to install the fender trim.

Then, I finally got the spotlight installed.  It's NOS and has some minor shelf wear, but all I did to it was polish it up as is.  It's too nice for me to bring myself to rechrome it.  The base is original one though which I'd had rechromed.

Is that the standard size tire for the car?

Super came with this size.  Roadmaster came with 8.00-15.  I really like the tire though, and it's not much of a difference so in this case I'm choosing fashion over form i don't expect it will have any noticeable difference in driving experience except possibly better gas mileage.  There are pie-crust style tires that come in 8.00-15, but none with the 2.5" whitewall.

  6. Progress - getting closer to ready for upholstery shop.  I tested 3 power seat tracks that I have, and found the one original to this car to work best, so I installed it today.  Now I can drive the car at the appropriate height and actually see over the dash.

I also received yesterday a set of tires.  I'd previously ordered a set of 8.00-15 Coker Classics, but after cleaning up my spare (photo below) I really liked the look of it.  It's a BF Goodrich Silvertown 7.60-15, and since Coker had them in stock, I bought 4 more to match.  Something about the pie crust look that I really like, and I also like the profile of the sidewall.  It's a 2.5" whitewall just as the other ones.

I hope to get the new tires on the car next week some time.

Maybe the bill of sale was incorrect? It is highly unusual for someone to remove and replace all the dash related AC components just to be thorough after removing the underhood parts. A pic of the Fisher Body tag above the brake master might tell if AC was factory installed.

       Nice car!

I agree - especially on a low mileage car that does not appear to have been molested.

I am glad to see that I’m not the only one scratching their head wondering why they are there.  Car look great by the way Lance

I believe Smartin is correct.  The hole in fender was probably stamped out when fender was stamped, with the hole then serving as a location reference in a jig to drill the holes for the porthole clips.  It could have even been stamped out when sheetmetal was flat and even used for locating the fender for stamping/forming as well.

Well I still have a lot of work to do on getting the door fitted but with all of the metal work that had to be done on this side with the quarter and rockers I am pretty happy with where we are starting with the first fit.

Thanks for the compliments and welcome JohnD1956 and lancemb!

lancemb - The car had a repaint years ago. From the records I have on the car, I'd surmise that it has been well kept and unrestored. The engine does not smoke. There are drips from the rear end (3rd member). I have replaced the rear shock links and am getting ready to fill rears with oil. The shock link on the passenger side had all of its rubber gone on the link end that attached to the shock lever.

To date it's made about 400 miles cruising around. Turns heads and all grins. The best part is the look on my buddies' kids faces when they tromp the accelerator and the engine roars to life! What a feeling!

We'd love to see some more pictures...trunk, engine, interior...
