  1. Must have been sitting outside lately. Already rust staining under trunk lid and corner of rear glass. Shame
  2. Hey, it's just having some fun at nobody's expense. It's nobody's child, and nobody's getting hurt. It's not personal against anyone. Heck, maybe you like it. It's just personal taste.
  3. Not mine, but left me speechless... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Buick-Other-Convertible-/162032168496?forcerrptr=true&hash=item25b9deae30:g:3E0AAOSwJQdXB9fF&item=162032168496
  4. My dad always had old cars around at his shop, so there was a constant stream of tire-kickers. He would often get asked, "would you take $x,xxx for it?" to which he'd reply, "is that a question or an offer?"
  5. Nice! Not really a way to make friends, but I get it...
  6. I was at a gas station yesterday and noticed a Ford Focus with a very striking color. Then I realized it looked just like the 57 Buick Garnet Red! It was about a 2008 model. This may be available off the shelf and be quite close enough to use in your interior.
  7. Beautiful car, and nicely done!
  8. Driver quality. No cracks. No large pits but many small specks and bumps. Very shiny. Not bolted together, just 2 halves. Pics attached. $175 plus actual shipping.
  9. Are you near the car? I don't see a rear bumper? That's a biggie. You are tempting me to call your bluff! I don't have the extra money at this time but I've got tons of parts for this car.
  10. I can get pics this weekend of driver quality grille. I also have one that is half NOS and half almost NOS - show quality. It would be the following weekend before I can dig that one out though for pics.
  11. Ok after reviewing all suggestions this seems to be the most surefire and easiest way to determine. According to this the valves are open significantly longer on the 300HP version. Hence, I think all I have to do is remove a valve cover, turn the engine until a valve just starts to open, mark the crank, turn it until valve fully closes, mark crank again, measure degrees movement of the crank, and compare to this chart. Does this make sense?
  12. Buick Man the driver side exhaust manifold is different between single and dual exhaust only. Mineis dual. Are you saying there is a difference in the exhaust ports on the head though?
  13. Thanks guys! Weird that the heads would have same numbers on them if different. I have dual exhaust. The exhaust was installed by me new 8 years ago. It did also have duals previously. I notice the lack of power when accelerating from a stop or at low speeds. There is no other issue that I notice; it starts right up, choke seems to operate fine, no hesitation, and idles and accelerates very smoothly - just not with much power compared to all other 57 and 58 Buicks I've owned (all big series). Indeed it seems like they went through a lot of effort to make the Specials have 50 less horsepower! Could the combination of the cam, heads, and dual exhaust be good for 50 HP? I would think the exhaust would be worth 10 HP if part of that figure.
  14. Same thing just happened to me when a picture of Big Blue was used to illustrate an emblem being sold. I don't really care personally. Didn't cost me anything, and they're not getting rich off me. I guess it would depend on the use. If it was a family member that would be different.
  15. Thanks for the input. As a little more info, the carb is the correct 4 bbl as is everything else on the outside as far as components including dual exhaust, unless there is some way to tell that is not obvious. I guess if the heads are different that would be good to know (Caballero2 I am interested to know what you find). The timing is worth checking. I am fairly certain it's not just a matter of thick carpet or throttle travel. I've driven enough of these cars where I can get a pretty good sense of how much "go" it should have. It's obvious enough anyway in my opinion; there is a huge difference. The compression would also be interesting to check, but would only be an indicator probably if they were on the high end of the range for the lower version. If it was much higher than that would give me high confidence that it was indeed the higher HP version.
  16. Well that's an unusual turn of events, but pretty cool! Sounds like something I'd make if I had more time. Well, good luck and hope to see you post some progress soon! I'll be getting back to my convertible next weekend. Need to check out oil leak and trans accumulator springs, then install top motor, and when I get a chance install the rebuilt speedometer and radio. The 4 door is driveable but the master is going bad. I have an NOS unit but need to find time to install that too.
  17. SpecialEducation brings up a great point. Even if one does not make the leap to the forum, it is a great way to share information and tech tips that they would otherwise not be exposed to. I say, great idea on your part, and keep it up!
  18. In a previous post, I described how my model 75 has no VIN on the engine, and thus seemingly replaced at one time. I also have noticed that although the car runs and drives great, it doesn't seem to have the power that my other 57 and 58s have had. I don't know if this is due to a weak transmission, or the engine, and got me to wondering if the engine had been replaced with a 250 HP version. How can I tell, since there is no VIN on it, without tearing the engine apart?
  19. It is not near enough to me or I'd be out digging already. The curiosity is killing me. He said he was out with his dog in a park area when he found this so he wasn't able to investigate further. Near a river but no RR tracks nearby.
  20. My friend found this in the woods and says it has a diameter of approximately between 2 and 3 feet. I am stumped. Certainly looks old. Any clue?
  21. This is a decent looking car and very near me. I could probably go and look at it if you're not near and are very serious about it. http://m.ebay.com/itm/Buick-Riviera-Hardtop-Coupe-/121914097009?nav=WATCHING_ACTIVE
