    Timing Chain

1/2 hour later but still before church---- I went out and looked at one of my junk engines and I see you will not have to replace the pan gasket. There are four bolts but the timing cover will come off leaving that portion of the pan gasket in place. If it does stick to the timing cover and tear you can just use some form-a-gasket to seal the tears in the gasket. I guess I would use a litte form-a-gasket anyway when putting it back together to get a good seal anyway on the used pan gasket. If your oil seal on the end of the crank shaft is not leaking now you shouldn't have to replace it but for a couple of dollars it wouldn't be a bad idea.

    Timing Chain

Jim, I cannot answer your questions at this time but if you are going to take the front of your engine apart put in a new cam sensor magnet and holder at the same time. The magnet is held into the cam gear by a plastic holder that goes through a hole in the gear. The magnets do fall out so this would be a good time to spend an extra $ 8 and have a new one installed.
  11. I have several Reatta parts cars and have the window you are looking for. I can be reached at jfinn@cpinternet.com
  12. I have parted out many Reattas and found out early the sill plate with the large L actually goes on the right side and the one with the large R goes on the left side. I have seen a few from the factory that had a piece of black tape covering the R and the L
  13. You should be able to get at it by raising the car up and reaching it from underneath.
  14. Wally, There are no forward and backward adjustments where the hinge attaches to the post. There are also no shims between the hinge and the door. On the post there are two fasteners, one stud and one hole to put a bolt through. The stud actually has a taper section that fits into the hinge so there is no way to slide the hinge forward short of taking the hinge off the post and making the holes in the hinge larger.
  15. Since I live in Duluth MN I cannot help on where to get your car repaired but I do have the parts you will need. I can be reached at jfinn@cpinternet.com

    o2 sensor

It is located on the rear exhaust manifold. The one between the engine and the firewall. The oxygen sensors don't go bad too often. If you are getting a code E044 or E045 that simply means the oxygen sensor is detecting a rich or lean mixture and is caused by something else.
  17. There have been hundreds of posts written about the Teves ABS on the Reattas and used on some other GM cars and the Chrysler Maserati TC. The most important thing to do with an '88-90 Reatta is to do the tests like Vincent Vega says and to make sure you have clean new fluid in the complete system. Changing the fluid now will probably not solve the problem in the long run as corrosion has already started in the valve body. The problem with these brake systems if they have not had the fluid changed is they will work most of the time and then when you most need the brakes you might have a rock hard pedal and no brakes. I have many Reatta parts cars and sell the units usually as fast as I get them in. I do have one good used ABS left. I can be reached at jfinn@cpinternet.com
  18. Wally, Close the door almost until it latches and get down and see if the body line (ridge) on the door is exactly lining up with the ridge on the quarter panel, near the door handle. I suspect the door will be a little low. The holes where the bolts go through the hinges are slightly bigger and there is some adjustment there but very hard to do with the front fender in place. The easiest way, and I know it sounds crude but has been done by body shops for years, is to simply have the door almost closed and then with a floor jack and a piece of wood, jack the rear end of the door up a little past where it is supposed to go and when you take the pressure off it will settle to the right height. This is the only way to adjust doors on Chrysler cars because they have the hinges welded to both the door and the post. When you put the jack under the door be sure and use a piece of wood and position the wood on the flat bottom of the door and not the lip on the outside.
  19. I have several Reatta parts cars and have all four hinges in blue. I would look close at your hinges though to make sure you do need all four as generally the hinges are pretty good. I have owned several cars with over 200,000 miles on them and the hinges were still in good working order. You can access the bolts with the door open so it is a fairly easy job to replace the hinges. Just do one at a time and prop the rear end of the door up at about the same level as normal when replacing the hinges. This way the alignment will stay the same. I can be reached at jfinn@cpinternet.com
  20. I have several Reatta parts cars and have a good condenser for your '90. I am not aware of a 'kit' for the "O" rings but they are standard rings and your A/C shop should have them on hand. You can also buy a whole box of every size "O" ring at many tool supply houses and maybe even Home Depot or Lowes stores. I will send you an email or I can be reached at jfinn@cpinternet.com
  21. I have several Reatta parts cars and have both the parts you are looking for. Let me know what color your interior is, and I can be reached at jfinn@cpinternet.com
  22. You will need to read the codes and see what went wrong but it probably is the cam sensor magnet and is a $ 15 part. The bad news is the front of the engine has to come apart to install the new magnet to the timing gear. The magnet is held to the timing gear by a plastic insert that goes through a hole in the gear and there are four tabs on the sides that hold the magnet in place. These plastic tabs break off and the magnet falls off. The magnet deteriorates and the plastic tabs break when they get old and the centrifugal force of the high RPMs causes it to come apart. You can do a search on this forum of an easier "fix" using JB weld to reattach a new magnet to the old plastic holder working through the hole where the cam sensor is mounted. I and others have used this method successfully and my son has done it three times but once it did not work.????? I have several Reatta parts cars if you need any other parts in the future and can be reached at jfinn@cpinternet.com

As Wally says, it is very important to replace all of the brake fluid in your ABS if it has not been done with in the last year or so. Many times people have had no indications of a possible brake problem with the Teves system on your car and then in a quick stop situation had a hard pedal and no brakes. Having clean moisture free fluid should eliminate the problem. I have several Reatta parts cars and can probably help with any parts needs. I can be reached at jfinn@cpinternet.com

    91 coupe for sale

A '91 with only 76,000 miles for $ 2990 looks like a pretty good deal to me.
  25. Thanks to those that helped. I did find the connector for the '91 coupe. It was supposed to be in the same place and the earlier cars but for some reason mine was never brought out to the correct location. I pulled the panel off where the RKE receiver was, looked at pin C11, found the color and started tracing back the wire in the harness and found it shoved under the insulation under the storage compartments.
