  1. Thanks to all for the advice. I'll proceed accordingly. Jim Finn mentioned a clean '91 in Chicago, which will be Plan B, in the event we can't fix the '90 for a reasonable price. Thanks again, Mac.
  2. My brother has a '90 which has seen better days, and it may not be worthwhile to seek rebuilt parts or send away his for refurbishment. That said, if he decides to pursue repair or replacement, is there a good source for the anti-lock system and the master cylinder ? If not he will be in the market for a clean '90 or '91, and this one will become a parts car. Thanks, Mac.
  3. You should still be able to purchase a new hood from GM. Otherwise, check with Jim Finn in Duluth or reattaparts.com. Good luck.
  4. The '91 is silver w/silver interior and black top. It is listed on Autotrader at a used car dealership in Kalamazoo. The current odometer reading is 29k. Since the last title history event was about one month ago, it may have been sold, but the sale listing was not pulled. I'm scheduled to be in Kalamazoo next week and will let you know if the car is still there. An email was sent last week to the dealership. No reply.
  5. Thanks for the information. It seems this car went untitled until 1998, and only accumulated 11k miles over those 7 years. I think I'll pass. Thanks again, Mac
  6. Thanks for the suggestion. I went with a 6x9 Infinity 2-way, which did dramatically improve the sound. It was not easy to mount, however, primarily due to the location of the top right screw hole. No room for your fingers... Anyway, if anyone is doing an upgrade, Crutchfield has a good deal on these speakers, and also provided the wiring harness connectors. '91 Riviera adapters worked fine. Since the speakers were on sale (50% off the 2nd pair), I also installed a set in my Dad's '97 Riviera which yielded similar results, without the bruised knuckles. Thanks again.
  7. There is a '91 conv. for sale here in Michigan, VIN 1G4EC33L8MB900509. Does anyone know the title history of this car ?
  8. Since the rear speakers in our '91 are due for replacement, does anyone have a recommendation for a bolt-in upgrade ? I'm particularly interested in improving the low frequency response. As always, thanks for your assistance. Mac
  9. Jim, Many thanks for your generosity. I'll look forward to talking with you after the get together in Plano. I hope you and all others attending will have uneventful (safe) travel to and from Texas. Thanks again, Mac
  10. This afternoon my wife and I were driving on the interstate when a big deer leaped in front of the Reatta, which was cruising at 75 mph. We are both o.k., and the damage to the car is primarily the hood and grey plastic cowl, under the bumper. Both fenders are unmarked, and the headlights were also spared. The (burgundy) trim wraparound on the bumper can probably be salvaged, but the hood and cowl must be replaced. A telephone message was left for Jim Finn. Any suggestions for other replacement parts sources will be appreciated. Also, has anyone had experience dealing with insurance adjusters ? Thanks, Mac
  11. If memory serves, the article pertained to a '90 which was turbocharged by an aftermarket company. This was not an effort sponsored by GM. The artcile may have appeared in Autoweek in mid-1990. If you find it, please let me know. Thanks, Mac
  12. Your cd player has problems which won't likely be cured by cleaning. The unit probably needs to be pulled and sent to Delphi (Delco) for repair. Expect to pay around $200.
  13. After reconnecting the hose to the fuel vapor cannister I figured the gasoline smell (mentioned in a prior posting) was resolved. The next day the smell was still there, so I popped the hood and checked the lines at the intake. The o-rings were fatigued and the connectors were about 1/2 turn from being tight. A small amount of fuel had accumulated on the intake area. The problem is now fixed, to the chagrin of my dealer, who had his mechanics check it twice in recent weeks. The service manager apologized for the oversight and said he was glad the car did not catch on fire. I told him that I shared his sentiments. This is passed along, just in case anyone has an unsolved fuel mystery.
  14. A recent post about an item on eBay (Eaton supercharger) triggered my memory about an aftermarket Reatta project which may have been via the same outfit that did the convertible conversions. Anyone with archived copies of Autoweek could find an article in the Fall of 1990 re: the addition of an Eaton turbo or supercharger at a cost of approx. $3,500. I can't remember for sure, but the company may have been ASC, located west of Flint; perhaps Lowell, Michigan. Does anybody remember anything along these lines ?
  15. As you thought, the hose was disconnected. Thanks alot for the help. Mac
