  1. Sadly, they are all now most likely in their 80s or close to it. I'll bet they didn't retain their looks as well as the 9 remaining cars did.
  2. A little over 30 minutes to go and still only $5500.
  3. Bidding only $5200. Closes in 6 hours. 1917 Hupmobile Model N Touring Car for sale on BaT Auctions - ending March 19 (Lot #44,820) | Bring a Trailer
  4. You watch too much Chicken Little news...."The sky is falling....The sky is falling.: Lived here for 34 years and have never had a direct hurricane hit. Several brushed by with minimal damage, but no flooding or houses washed away.
  5. Thank you. I had never seen them before. Is that really a problem with the axle dropping too far?
  6. Yes. The 3 rod caps are shown in the picture. They share one 2-piece bearing.
  7. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway 1916 Cole Roadster (which sold 2 weeks ago,) had something similar, but doesn't look like it retracted. I've been trying to figure out what it is.
  8. Pushed the dirt around when I filled in my pool. You can see what's left of my 15x30 inground pool in the background. It's no longer a hole in the ground I poured money into.
  9. I was green before being green was cool. Cole Car engines are either green, grey or black. As I'm chipping the black powder coat from the engine of my 1920 touring car, I'm repainting as close to the original green as I've been able to find. But yes, Ed, I truly am a tractor mechanic. I've got 6 John Deere garden tractors (1965 110, 1969 112, 1980 212 with blade, 1981 317 with loader and tiller, 1985 318 tiller, and a 1986 430 diesel. All have mower decks and other attachments such as belly blades, cultivator, plow, etc. I've got one more loader which I want to mount on the 318 or 430. I may eventually take the loader off the 317 (arm-strong steering,) and put it on the other power steering tractors (318, or 430,)...another one of my roundtuits. I've also got a 1978 JD 90 skid loader.
  10. They say he stops by on occasion. Others have said he can occasionally be seen mowing the grass there with a tractor.
  11. I might have an extra set. I am restoring a 1919 and 1920 Cole...see my thread under Restorations. I have a few 1916 parts, but they are mixed in with everything else, as the 1919 was completely disassembled when I bought it.
  12. Yes, it's a drag racing museum with many drag racing cars from the past. But there's a separate building housing at least 60 or more pre-war cars. No mega-million dollar Duesenbergs, etc., but many very nice cars. From what I understand, at least some of the cars displayed are on loan, as while I was there in December, workers were shuffling cars around to get a 1936 Ford out which the owner wanted to take to a show. Unfortunately they are all packed in so tightly it's difficult to get good pictures of most. I commented about the lack of radiator caps or motometers on all of the cars and was told they remove them to keep visitors from stealing them. AACA member George Albright is involved with the museum, and donated the only surviving 1904 Simplicity to the museum. From the pictures of it below, you can see how tightly the cars are sandwiched in the building. The museum borders I-75 in Ocala, FL, and is well worth a visit. https://garlits.com/
  13. Well that's great if I want to pay for a subscription to the NY Times...which I don't. So I stand by my suggestion for a Museums section in the AACA Forum.
  14. Got my March-April edition yesterday.
  15. Interesting point with this one is no admittance charge.
  16. Eventually you will all get old enough to hear the music in your head. I guess it happens at different ages for different people. No idea where it's coming from, but it's there and it's different song/songs every day playing continuously. Some of it will be songs you haven't heard in 60 years, but within the first several notes, you'll remember the words. But then it keeps playing over and over and over throughout the day.
  17. Cooler than cool. If I weren't up to my ears in projects like you, I'd be all over this. George
  18. Have to be there on Wednesday, the 31st for family business. Had planned to leave that day, but may stay another day just to check out the museum.
  19. Anyone ever heard of Woody's Classic Cars & Baseball Museum in Cross Plains, TX? Cross Plains is an extremely small cow town in the middle of TX scrub lands, 150 miles south-west of Dallas, 45 miles east of Abilene. Website says it's a 22,000 sq ft building opened in 2018. I've been to Cross Plains several times since 2018 and didn't know it existed. I've got to go back again in 2 weeks so will check it out. https://www.woodysmuseum.com/
  20. 240k miles on my Caprice wagon. Never had an Opti-spark problem.
  21. The new ones 3d row seats fold flat. Second row seat backs fold down electrically to be level with rear deck or folds up against the back of the front seats manually, limiting cargo length. 3d row folds flat, all electrically controlled. If you arrive at the airport to pick up people and 3d row seats decide not to fold or unfold, you're screwed...as mine already did. There's a service bulletin out on it. Warranty replaced the entire 3d row seat frame, and it still had the same problem so they replaced it again. Have only had to use 3d row seats once. Stays folded flat all the time for cargo. Seats folded flat versus removable limits cargo height by 7". Tailgate is also all electrically controlled. No manual backup. Can't wait for that to fail...as it eventually will like all other electrically operated equipment. My neighbor's already did in his Tahoe. He had a bunch of stuff in the back which was too big to get out through the side doors and blocked access to the tailgate from the inside. Not sure how the dealership finally got into it.
  22. Bought my 91 Caprice wagon new and had it undercoated by the dealership in Newport News, VA, before I drove it off the lot. Brought it to FL and it still rotted away from the inside out. Wife and I both really liked the car except for the rust. Still under warranty had rust repair around the roof rack and both sides of the tailgate. Finally got rid of it after 14 years with the tailgate supports completely rusted away. Kids grown and gone. I had a new Suburban, and I bought the wife a new Corvette to replace it.
