  1. The price of wood you would not think it grew on trees!!!
  2. It is a simple but stark analogy trying to make the point that this is not a hot rod site. The analogy is not meant to be funny, it is designed to show how something is completely unacceptable in the wrong place.
  3. Perhaps not Dodge Brothers. I think your engine should be fitted with a Distributor. Early Dodge Brothers cars were fitted with the Eisseman magneto but horizontal not vertical.
  4. If you come and pick it up it will save you on the postage.
  5. Remarkable range of skills you are showing us including design / development, thank you Matt.
  6. There is no curve in a North East (not DB) static distributor, the accuracy down to one degree is achieved by moving the advance retard lever manually. I am sure that each and every DB driver has this down to a fine art, moving the lever progressively as the revs rise and returning it as the revs die to ensure the correct advance and retardation to match the varying revolutions of the engine. “The curve as you suggest.” I mentioned the VW distributor because it is being used widely here in Australia without any issues, it is very inexpensive easy to install and parts are off the shelf. I provide details because I was asked. I have refrained from commenting on your apparent issue with Chinese made equipment.
  7. In order to avoid a dreadful noise in first and second this gear needs to be a nice fit on the square shaft. If the shaft is badly worn and / or the internal square in the gear is worn they will chatter badly creating said noise.
  8. Adam, This gear needs to mesh with the larger gear on the lower layshaft in reverse, neutral, first and second. In this photo the gear is clearly visible on the left. and fits inside the gear (when selected) which is fixed to the main output shaft to provide direct drive for top gear. In this picture you can see that it has slid inside the final drive gear with only the selector fork groove visible. Having two cogs of different sizes on the clutch square shaft will not provide these selections. Fortunate that you did not fit this gearbox to a car without checking. Good luck. Nige.
  9. This gear, pictured in the opening thread is not correct for this gearbox. The spacer is not correct either. This is what you need. As shown in the Dodge Brothers parts list and marked high speed sliding gear.
  10. This intermediate gear is used to select first and second (as shown in the pictures above and fits into (inside) the fixed gear on the output shaft when selecting top (high) (third) gear.
  11. Your picture shows a double gear on the square clutch output shaft. I have not seen this before. If you have a multiplate clutch the correct gear should look like this. The top face should face the clutch.
  12. That spacer is not something I recognise as being in my gearboxes.
  13. Having new parts made in small numbers is expensive to do, I understand that. Selling NEW OLD STOCK at really high prices pushes regular folk to seek workable alternatives. Early VW mechanical advance distributors fit with a thin bush or sleeve and correct drive dog fitted. you can say I am whining Doug but at 80 Australian dollars for the distributor complete with points cap and condenser all brand new and then future parts availability allows for reliability and affordability. I drive mine several thousand miles every year.
  14. On an extended trip so I will post the details on my return.
  15. I agree 100% No offence intended I was simply responding to the “bump” Bumped because there were no responses. I was explaining why. My initial enquiry direct was for two sets of points, rotors and a cap. Reluctantly, (as I would much prefer originality) I have purchased a brand new VW centrifugal advance distributor complete with points, cap, rotor and condenser which with very minor drive dog modification will fit straight on the original North East mount. Total cost was less than half of one set of points. Just saying.
  16. Unfortunately you are far, far too expensive. That is before I add the postage. Sorry.
  17. Regarding the Starter Generator, my DB book says when maintenance is required on the “G” type replace with the “GA” I cannot remember the exact wording.
