  1. Lawn darts are illegal but machine guns aren't (in some states) ? What a strange country is the USA !
  2. Attached are a few photos taken out in the barnyard.Since buying this car from an estate in July, I have done considerable work getting it running and sorting out.It seems to be working well now and I just had the wheels detailed. Special thanks to Hugh 25-25, Rogerthat ,and others on this forum who have been a great help in offering advise and information. Jim Boland Thames Center Ontario,Canada
  3. I once asked an old time mechanic about torquing head bolts. It's difficult to put in print what he said, but it was something like "you grab the johnson bar and go AARGH, Uh.Uh and it's torqued".
  4. Thanks to Leif and Hugh,I now know exactly what I need. The speedo driven gear /shaft (part number 181418) is broken off at the 4 inch mark (S/B 4 1/2") and I also need the nipple at the right end (pt # 169924) The gear only fits 1925 and the nipple fits 1924-27. Erik has the nipple but I still need the shaft. Any help or leads are appreciated (I don't want any speeding tickets with this thing)!
  5. My son, who works for an auto graphics firm in London,Ontario, was surprised to see this Pierce Arrow sitting in the driveway of the neighbouring BMW dealer. Seems it was temporarily removed from it's transport to facilitate loading a BMW.Both cars were heading to an international collector apparently. He didn't know from whence it came or where it was headed. Anyone familiar with it ? (I'm guessing 1936 -1937).
  6. Hi Hugh. Thanks again for your info.Attached is a photo of what occupies my speedo drive outlet. I'm not sure what I've got here ! I haven't tried to remove it.Leif says there is a shaft right through with a nut on the other side.
  7. Thanks to Rogerthat for the photo of a '25 Buick dome lamp switch. Has anyone on this forum got one like it in their junk drawer ?
  8. My '25 Buick Standard Six just has a plug where the transmission speedometer adapter should be.I have a NOS cable and casing but it has nowhere to go at the bottom end. Anyone got a spare ? Jim
  9. Best I can do is my 1940 Packard 110 business coupe.Repainted back in the fifties.Other than refinishing wheels and new running board rubbers,it's an original 45000 mile car.
  10. A few years ago,the Two Cylinder John Deere club had a meet near here and I decided to crash the party with a John Deere service truck,I had correct for era decals made for the '21 Chevy and trailered it behind my '72 Chevy C20. Tractor shows usually have lots of room (ie.farms) so I'm allowed to show '21,'72,and trailer together. The best part is talking to interested and interesting people.
  11. I do fewer and fewer car shows every year.To me,many of these "shows" remind me of a Walmart parking lot. One day though,on our way home from a show ,we stopped at a grocery store with our '40 Packard coupe.A young father with his two preteen kids pulled up in front of me.I could see the boy, about 9,pointing excitedly at the car. As they were getting out of their SUV, I heard the dad say "why don't you ask the owner?". The youngster shyly came over and asked what it was and how old it was.I told him it was even older than his dad.He said WOW ! I let him sit in it and we had a nice visit. If we want there to be a future market for these old cars, we need to leave our "stuffed shirts" in the trunk. Jim
  12. Now that the '25 coupe runs and drives, I'm looking to flesh out a few details. What type of jack was used ? Is there a combination wrench for hub caps and spindle nuts ? I assume there was a special water pump packing wrench also. Any help and sources for the aforementioned would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Jim
  13. I just had the '25 out for a 4 mile run and it never missed a beat. The big nut at the pick up tube wasn't completely tight and more fuel was poured in the tank. The two front tires went soft on the run however.Seems the fellow that restored it got a deal on "NOS" red rubber inner tubes. Some NOS components are best left on the shelf ! Jim
  14. The vacuum tank ran dry again on the first road test.I had the necessary tools and a gas can to refill it.It made it home and the vacuum tank refilled itself sitting in the driveway. It runs and drives nice other than that.
  15. I added more fuel to the tank, topped up the vacuum tank and retightened the top tank screws. This time the tank seems to have cycled OK.I did a couple of laps around the yard and it sat idling for a while after that with no problems.Next is a road test !
  16. Thanks Hugh. You'll be happy to hear that I'm getting a RF seat made.A friend locally had a jump seat out of an old 7 passenger touring car.It is lending itself perfectly to modifications to make it look just like the original '25 seat. I'll run a set of photos when it's done. Jim
  17. Buick made this style- opera coupe,victoria,4 passenger coupe, call it what you will, right into the mid 1930's. There was a 1930 Victoria for sale here in SW Ontario. It needed a full resto but was very solid and complete. It was apparently used by rum runners during the prohibition era. There was a link to it on the buy sell section on this forum but it is NLA. Jim
  18. I wish I did ! I'd like to get some touchup paint for it. Some body shops around here have a scanning tool that can tell you the color.I will try to see if anyone nearby will try it on this car. Jim
  19. After cleaning all the rust and varnish out of the fuel system and checking the ignition timing several times to no avail , I decided to check the engine firing order in the manual. Having owned several old stove bolt Chevies and checking a couple of online sites, I assumed that the firing order was 1-5-3-6-2-4. WRONG.It's 1-4-2-6-3-5 ! On correcting this ,it fired right up and ran like a watch. It was great to drive it out of the garage under it's own power for the first time. Now if I can just get the vacuum tank to work..............
  20. I've reported on this already, but when I demanded photos, he sent photos, but the parts were on 3 different cars. I actually talked to the guy, who had a strong East Indian accent, claimed to be from Texas, but was calling from a Nevada area code. They're definitely trolling this forum. Jim
  21. Sounds like the same scammer that tried to sell me everything I was looking for on my '25 Buick. When I insisted on pictures,he sent pictures of 3 different cars.He claimed to be in Texas, but was calling from Nevada and had a distinct East Indian accent.BEWARE !!
  22. I had my '21 Chevy pickup at a cruise night some years ago,had the OHV open rocker arm/pushrod/flywheel engine idling so slow you could count every stroke.A hippy type walked by,stopped, and remarked "Wow,man. The original Chevy small block" ! I love it. I take a lot of photos, though, and prefer the hood down. Jim
  23. There are 2 for sale here in Ontario, one in Toronto and one in the Ottawa area. One came from BC and was converted from a stick six to a 390 auto, the other is still a stick six.Prices are $13500 and $11500 respectively (that's our 82 cent Canadian dollars). They are on Kijiji Ontario under "classic cars".Both look very presentable.Phone # for the Toronto 390 car is 905-546-9780. Jim
