  1. Blue smoke I'd think would be worn out valve guides, letting oil into the combustion chamber. So that would mean removing the heads, overhauling them with new guides, etc. So I don't see it should be an attempt to start it in it's current state. It sounds very much like an Alfa Romeo engine. Before trying to turn it by hand, if you want to attempt a start, I would first put a little oil down the spark plug holes. I did start an Alfa Romeo engine that had been sitting for about 10 years, it was not stuck. Your situation is much different, more likely to be stuck, and cylinders have some rust.
  2. they came with carburetors or fuel injection, apparently Early SMs were fed by three dual Weber carburetors. Halfway through 1972 Bosch D-jetronic fuel injection became standard on cars like this one, owned by Daniel Kunz of Zurich, Switzerland. Automatic transmissions were also offered (mainly for the American market) and in 1973 the SM’s V6 was enlarged to 3.0 liters, a powerplant shared with the Maserati Merak.
  3. That IS what I want, a steam powered car that can be run on firewood. For me firewood is free, and I'm all about free. Why try to heat my home with natural gas and get a $300 bill in the winter and still be cold? Use a wood stove, more heat and free. They are trying to ban wood stoves BTW. You can easily get fined $500 for using one on a winter day, that lacks a breeze to clear the air of your smoke, unless it is your only source of heat, and in that case it needs to be a modern one, EPA certified, and probably with a catalytic converter.
  4. https://plugintothepresent.com/#home The new "electric for all" ad campaign scheduled to launch next month comes from a new non-profit organization, Veloz, made up of automakers, government agencies, non-profit advocates, utilities, charging networks, and others. Charging network Electrify America, a major backer of Veloz, already used the tagline under license from Veloz in its "Jetstones" ad campaign. They have also been running these ads on TV that actually show the cartoon characters Fred Flintstone and then George Jetson. You are supposedly one or the other. Can't find a version of that advertisement online though, only this one.
  5. He is not auctioning those cars. He is just paying to advertise them. If you met him in person and bought one of those three, you would not be able to leave feedback, even if you were happy with your purchase. This is a classified ad listing. There is no bidding on this item, so contact the seller for more information. Seller feedback scores exclude classified listings.
  6. All London Taxis will become electric https://abcnews.go.com/International/londons-iconic-black-cabs-electric/story?id=53907312 Officials hope the number will increase rapidly, with a target of 9,000 electric black cabs by 2020, and that the changes will significantly reduce pollution in London -- reducing taxis' contribution to nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 45 percent. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2001-london-taxi-int-tx1/ this is where I stumbled across this information, the old ones are being sold off cheap. "At home, using a 7 KW charger, it takes 4 hours to charge it from empty."
  7. Ferrari interior shot, then exterior of the same car, pics #1 and #2.
  8. You can run 14 ga wire from a 15 amp breaker to a lighting circuit. It is 12 ga wire from a 20 amp breaker to go to an electrical outlet. And in both cases there are limits. Limits to the number of lights, or the number of outlets, per each breaker, obviously.
  9. My well pump circuit is 220V and 40 amps, which I think gives you 8.8 kw. So if you hooked that up for one hour and drew the max current, you would charge a battery with 8.8 kw-hours of energy. So how many kw-hours of energy charges a Tesla auto? Sometimes they say we have 240V. It used to be 110 and 220, but actually if you measure it I think it is higher now, 120V and 240V about. We have 120V 15 amp and 20 amp circuits. 15 amp is for lights, and 20 amps is for outlets. And you can have 240 V for stoves, clothes driers and well pumps or water heaters. It is common for a panel to be 200 AMP. It should not be difficult to have a 300 AMP panel and add a 240V 60 amp circuit breaker for a car charging port. Neighbors across the street had a car charging port added for their Nissan Leaf.
  10. Two Nash-Healy's, and a 1956 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider "750" 1300cc
  11. I am not impressed by performance. I do like the idea of driving for free. Charge your car with sunlight, no fuel expense. I would like to drive with a solar panel on the roof. At this point it is all very expensive, I realize that. But the idea of an economical EV charged by solar panels may at some point become practical for me. We are back up to $4 per gallon gasoline at this point.
  12. Like I posted this before, these solar panels are 5 kw. When they were first installed, I saw the meter, showing they were delivering that, and installed correctly. You can use that to charge your "Power Wall" home battery, during the day. Then the "power wall" transfers the energy to your car at night. http://www.tesla.com/powerwall
  13. You might find this interesting. Tesla batteries in an EV conversion.
