  1. In Alaska, the local NAPA may not be so local!
  2. This technique was also used on Firebirds. The first time I saw a dash lit like that, it took me a while to figure out where the light was even coming from. When we bought a new GMC in '96, it became the road trip vehicle of choice for a variety of reasons, but one of them was the lights in the mirror. We found that by softly lighting the dash from the front side, eye strain was greatly reduced during night driving. I don't know if that was the intent behind lighting like that, but I like the result.
  3. Has anyone tried patching rusty rocker panels with old spam cans? I thought the gelatin would help inhibit rust, but I can't get the paint to stick.
  4. It's okay, Gary... As long as it's done by October for our Kansas Buick show!
  5. This statement makes me a little sad. I was in Oklahoma City 2 of the last 3 weekends, but this Saturday I was in Tulsa. In Oklahoma City, you put the rear visors down while cruising the NW Expressway so you don't see how close to death you came when the bridge collapses. Drivers distracted by the mayhem behind them is also unsafe!
  6. We put in a new switch with the MC overhaul, and it wasn't right. It took a LOT of pressure to get the lights to come on. New switch, re-bleed, marginally better... Now we have a modern style mechanical switch clamped to the steering column. Much more reliable.
  7. Shortly after acquiring the '87 'Hawk coupe, I stumbled across this emblem still attached to a shattered remanent of my '82 Skyhawk convertible's tail light.
  8. I bet Dale would by TWO if they came with factory SCALLOPS...
  9. Maybe if your BCA number were lower, you would understand both. KIDDING!!!! Per the Urban Dictionary Terry is about 60 miles from Doo Dah, but in Doo Dah, that's close enough.
  10. I know of none. The '56 Buick owner's manual specifically states to use the same fluid as the Dynaflow Drive. Stability in a wide range of temperatures is the primary concern, and Dex III equivalent is much better than what was available in 1956. I have heard that Dex IV is not good for systems not designed for it, but I don't have data on that in front of me. I think it is super-low viscosity, making it poor for keeping high speed bearings lubed in older systems. If I'm wrong on that, someone will be along soon to correct me...
  11. Exactly! It gives us all a chance to round-robin our memberships and take a year off from time to time. If we ALL used Speedo's number and last name, the management would get suspicious...
  12. Unless you are replacing your ENTIRE brake system, stick with DOT 3. A large variety of hydraulic fluids fluids will work fine in the power steering systems. Transmission fluid is really overkill for the actual requirements, but it's relatively cheap and common.
  13. I think there may be two issues here. Wordpress was being a jerk and not letting me login earlier today either, but it sounds like Cal was beyond that point because he was able to load other issues, just not May. When it did finally let me in, the May issue loads very slow for me, but it loads. I think it's just bigger than most.
  14. Just out of curiosity, what browser are you running? The first time I tried the May issue, it took well over 30 seconds in Chrome. The next time I loaded it, it was only 3 seconds (assuming it was cached at that point). Explorer was right at 30 seconds, Safari 15 seconds, and Firefox wouldn't load it at all...
  15. That's one of the things I miss about the old (less Korean spam resistant) forum software. When I viewed the site on my phone, there was a button at the bottom of the page to switch from the mobile site to the full site. I was hoping that would come back as the kinks of the new setup were worked out, but it has yet to return.
  16. Well, there's no doubt about it, the Forest Service green is distinctive. When you see one of their surplus trucks on the road, you know exactly what it is and where it came from. I'm going to try to meet up with the sales manager at the Buick dealership down the street later this week to hammer out some car show details. I'll see if he can give me the skinny on the current process for special order colors while I'm there.
  17. Primarily, the custom colors were used by commercial buyers who wanted vehicles in company colors, but sometimes we ordered odd colors just for fun. We may not have had a color analyzer to make a guaranteed match like your local hardware store will for your wall paint, but we had a book with dozens & dozens of colors to choose from. That said, I don't think the gawdawful Forrest Service green was in the book, but it obviously didn't stop them. I'm sure the bigger organizations just specified their own color formula.
  18. There's a certain amount of risk that gets pushed back on the dealership when a special order color is processed. The dealership doesn't want to get stuck with an obnoxious colored car on their lot. Standard colors are safe, and dealerships generally like to sell from stock or dealer trade instead of making special orders from the factory that give you time to stew over your decision. The last 2 new vehicles I bought happened to have great color palates, but I almost pulled the trigger on a special color back in 2003. It all comes down to who you ask and how you ask it. Of course, money talks.
  19. Well, if Speedo was the best moderator in cyberspace, he'd know that I don't have the 'Member Title' option when I click 'edit profile'
  20. Drive your little red pre-war up to the local dealership and tell the sales manager you want a Cascada, but the color has to match the Buick you drove in. Let them know that you understand it will cost extra, but if he can't make it happen, you'll walk. Now, I haven't bought a new car or worked at a GM dealership since it became "New GM", but back in 2004 this was possible, and only a few hundred bucks extra.
  21. As far has the horizontal bar across the grille goes - yeah, that's a bit Chrysler-ish, but otherwise I don't think it looks a bit like a Sebring. I think the Buick looks more muscular where the petnastar looks pretty milquetoast to me. Maybe the Buick isn't quite International Raceway material, but the only central Florida vision that comes to my mind when looking at the Chrysler is blue-hairs clogging up US 27 in the town of its namesake. Another thought on the grille: Waterfall - Cascade - Cascada... How did they miss that?
  22. Works fine for me. Maybe a little on the slow side today to get the initial opening, but I was able to open the doc, flip pages, and zoom in just fine. Opening it up did remind me that I need to bug Mr. De Fiore about those new windshield cards...
  23. I think I'm compliant with this one, but I do have a question along the same lines. The avatar for most folks on here shows Junior Member or Senior Member or something similar that is auto-generated by the forum system. However, a few have custom tags there. How does that happen?
