  5. Walt: Thanks for sharing it and describing how it's made. A presentation piece would have been intended to not only 'sell the design' to generate an order but also to impress the client that special craftsmanship was the standard Derham practice. Was Enos Derham the designer? Steve
  6. I'll go out on a limb, call this snazzy roadster a 1920-'21 Biddle:
  7. No, Brunn was not equipped for the volume these GM convertible sedans required. Only one 1941 Buick Limited convertible sedan was built by Brunn. Here is the Body by Fisher plate for a 1941 Buick Roadmaster convertible sedan.

  10. Hayes Body Co. of Grand Rapids, MI built the bodies for the 1932-'34 REO Flying Cloud 65 and 1933-'34 Franklin Olympic which were also mounted on the 1932 Marmon 8-125 for that one year: Hayes Body Co., Hayes Mfg., H. Jay Hayes, Eastman Metallic Body, Wilson-Hayes, Hayes-Ionia Co., Hayes-Hunt Corp., Victor Body, General Body - Coachbuilt.com Franklin had contracted with the Walker Body Co. of Amesbury, MA to supply a major share of their bodies. Note, though that Walker had ended body production late in 1931, from this source we learn: Walker Body Company, George T. Walker, Walker Carriage Co., Walker-Wells Body Co., Dietrich, Franklin - CoachBuilt.com "Between 1904-1905 and 1920-24 Franklin made some of their own bodies in Syracuse, and when Walker halted its body building activities in 1931, some of its skilled craftsmen moved to Syracuse where they built the 1932-1934 Series 17 and 19 bodies inside the Franklin plant. The bodies for Franklin’s Olympic series which were shared by the Reo Flying Cloud were built by the Hayes Mfg. Co., a large Detroit production body builder."

  12. de Campi identifies this style close-coupled sedan with the integrated trunk and the hidden vents in the sail panel as the Torpedo sedan. The 'skeleton' interior trim of exposed bows was typical.
  13. The unibody 1958-'60 Lincolns and Continentals pretty much 'did-in' the appeal of two door Lincolns for a while, to wit: Precent of annual production, 1956-'60: 1956: 47% 1957: 44.2% 1958: 27% 1959: 22% 1960: 18% These percentages may have influenced the decision to delete the two-door hardtop from the 1961 Lincoln Continental body style selection. One major possible cause of the diminished appeal of the 1958-'60 two door hardtops may stem from the fact the two-door hardtop shares the same roof shell stampings and configuration as the four door hardtops. Whereas industry design practice in the era was to truncate the length of the two-door hardtop roof for a sportier look, the tooling cost for this Lincoln series may have precluded that additional expense.
  14. The 1930-'31 Hudson Great(er) Eights may be the source of the hood side panels.
  15. Pure, 'what's it' confectionary conglomeration, built to deceive. A Graham-Paige LeBaron roadster built from 'floor-sweeping". A tip-of-the-hat to Ed for the perfect characterization...
  16. This is one of the late 1970's/early 1980's spasm of neo-classic replicars which took its cue from the run up in prices of genuine 'classic' old cars. These were designed and built to appeal to an aging, prosperous demographic that wanted the look of an 'old classic' without the inconvenience that can be part of genuine old car ownership. These were built to display the owner's wealth to those not knowledgeable about old cars. To put it plainly, they are the automotive equivalent of cubic zirconium. Advice: before any offer or money changes hands, know what this replicar is and what the current market for such is. Or, do yourself a favor, run away quickly!

  21. Steve: This '30 Packard 733 7-passenger touring is practical too. Think how you can take a whole complement of friends along on an outing, though who has to ride on the folding jump seats might be a matter of drawing straws. Steve
