1970 Oldsmobile Toronado GT W34
58L-Y8 replied to alsancle's topic in "Not Mine" Automobiles For Sale
A.J.: Apparently, that is the standard front seating, shown in this brochure image. "Individual Strato bucket seats are available with a sport console between, if you wish". is only noted on this page from the prestige brochure in the upper left corner but without an image. Unfortunately, I can't transfer that memory image I have of those in that well-worn '70 Toronado seen 40 years ago...but the description confirms faded memory. Steve -

1970 Oldsmobile Toronado GT W34
58L-Y8 replied to alsancle's topic in "Not Mine" Automobiles For Sale
I did check out a well-used '70 Toronado with bucket seats about forty years ago, but it wasn't a GT. Still should have bought it just for the bucket seats. -
1970 Oldsmobile Toronado GT W34
58L-Y8 replied to alsancle's topic in "Not Mine" Automobiles For Sale
The Standard Catalog of American Cars, 1946-1975, edited by John Gunnell states that only seven percent of 1970 Toronadoes were equipped with bucket seats. Of the 25,433 Toronadoes that year, only ~1,780 had bucket seats. Those GT's with the bucket seats but without vinyl tops would be the most desirable now...maybe 20 cars altogether... -
TAKerry; If you have time when you're going by, would you be so kind as to stop by for a closer look at this Ambassador? Maybe pix of the engine compartment and front seat if it isn't too much trouble. And your assessment of how it looks underneath for rust damage and overall in general. I don't ask for much, do I? Steve PS: When they respray a car like this and are not doing a complete color change, why they don't just match the factory color is beyond me...

Andy: This "For Sale - Not Mine" forum is where we repost interesting cars which are not our own to bring them to the attention of others for consideration. Because the Craigslist advertisement are time limited, when they disappear the only way to determine if the car is still available is to call the seller's number. Which in this case was listed and is this: Contact: (575) 9-one-0-7-two-9-9 Good luck with your contact. If you buy it, please tell us about it. Steve

Fender Skirts --- Thumbs Up or Down ?
58L-Y8 replied to Crusty Trucker's topic in General Discussion
The essential problem with front wheelhouse fender skirts is the functional sweep of the wheels must be accommodated. To do so, the front tread width either has to be narrow (1949 Nash Statesman & Ambassador: 54 11/16" front; 59 11/16" rear) or the fender skirts have to be bulbous. As shown by the Delahaye, the appearance reminds one of a portly lady with her skirt sides well out beyond her leg stance. For rear fender skirts, if the designers included stamped-in wheelhouse flairs, fender skirts don't integrate with the sweeping panel plane which are their essential purpose. Some overlain fender skirts do work visually if the skirts have relatively little offset from the surface to which they are applied. -
Fender Skirts --- Thumbs Up or Down ?

I come down in the "never fender skirts on the front wheel wells". Too much exposure to 'bathtub' and Airflyte Nashes as a youth.... -
