  1. Ok guys my 31-50 needs new tires too. I love the big white wall look. can we buy all black tires and put the fake white walls on them or does this not work well?
  2. My 5.9 cummins has all steel gears. Curious why not all steel vs. the aluminum cam gear?
  3. En voy. I do not know the size. I just ordered it from bobs automobilia. it is what was used on the other cars and I put it as mentioned above. done the trick, Honestly, if to do over again I would probably just buy a can of black silicone that's like a can of cheese wiz. and use that. apply thin bead on the flange. let it cure. bolt together. No one will ever know.. Your car is beautiful
  4. I added the rope/packing seal to my 30-50.. if you look in the pics above you see the third pic down it has a beveled edge to the inside? that's where I put the packing seal. cut at 45 angles where it the seal ends come together. It did the trick. My car did not have the leather when I got it. you can look at the pics of the cars where bob asked folks to post pics. and you will see my 31-57..
  5. If it is stock bore and the 32 is same as 31 - 50 I have a brand new set. I ordered a set. then the engine shop put my piston in a vise trying to drive out the wrist pin and egg shaped the piston. end result. I had to have arias machine shop build me all new aluminum pistons and rings. I believe the stock bore was 2 7/8 " stroke 4 1/4".. and I do believe the 31 and 32 -50's are the same
  6. Jerry smith. the marvel carb on the 31-57 is very simple. rebuild it yourself. you can get a kit for it from bobs automobilia.. they now offer a plastic or brass float to replace the cork one that is stock and comes with the rebuild kit. I recommend buying one. if not dip the cork float in some kind of fuel tank sealant. you can also get a book from bobs that has the specifications and adjustments for the 31. I also advise you GET ONE... Hope this helps
  7. The valve adjustment should be on the valve cover. no less that .008 when engine is hot. also this engine has roller style lifter set up. you can see these if you remove the two engine side covers on the passenger side. has two big flat head screws holding them on.. . you may be able to run the engine with these covers off and see if oil flow is better off of cam.. also may let you hear if noise is in the lifter set up. IF you take the lifter assy out to inspect be careful. there are springs, small clips and retainers in there and the whole assy will fall apart... Let us know what you find out.
  8. Ok guys I heard L&L auto trim was in the process of moving locations. try the email for him in above post.
  9. How long is this unit?
  10. I am very interested if this is the old style cooler that hangs on the window. can u send me pics at 918 607 3923
  11. pete phillips can you post pics of your oil cooler and its cover? I had to hand make a cover and it was no easy task. it is a tight fit with little clearance between the cover and the exchanger.
  12. another thought. I found out that on these engines the fly wheel can be put on any way u want. Other engines I have worked on the flywheel can be put on only one way as the bolt holes do not align but one way. So,,, If you do not mark the flywheel with the crank you will have a tough time trying to time this engine because the timing marks are on the flywheel... Hope that helps. Also timing this thing was a tedious process for me.
  13. just a thought. but those engines have very little clearance from the rear main bearing cap and flywheel bolts. Is it possible it is binding there?
  14. Ok I just looked up L&L Antique auto trim on the web and he has a website. Check that out. Looks like he has a list of his trim he offers. His dad made dies to build trim for his car because they could not find them anywhere. Thats how his business got started.... I am not sure why the phone is disconnected but try his email. blandoll@hotmail.com... again, hope this helps
  15. please let us know if he is able to help you.
  16. I hope this helps. I found the running board trim mouldings at L&L ANTIQUE AUTO TRIM. it was a lil pricy but ohly place that I found. their phone number is 417-476-2871.. I am very happy with the results. address is 403 spruce. P.O. Box 177. Pierce City MO. 65723

  18. also I wouldn't mind to see a few pictures of the engines that are for sale
  19. are the engines for the 31 and 32 the same?
  20. I can chime in on the 216-235 engine. I have a 54 chevy 5 window truck. The 54s came with 235 with insert bearings as the earlier had the 216 with Babbitt. U can easily drop the oil pan and pull one rod cap and check. . there may be other was to tell but that's a good start.
