  1. I do not believe they got rid of the cummins. Still have it in the 2500-3500 trucks. the 1/2 tons are just too light for that heavy cummins. I believe this new diesel in the half ton trucks is aluminum alloy block. so much lighter from the word go.
  2. Interested in the exhaust manifold. Do you by chance have intake manifold too? Pm me and will make arrangements on exhaust manifold

  4. Hey guys, I do not have a vacuum gauge YET. But will have one soon. Just curious. You have mentioned hooking a vacuum gauge up and checking that it is not jumping. What does it mean if it is jumping? Head gasket or valve adjustment ?
  5. I Have talked to Mark. He is a great guy to know. Please share some pics of your 31-57
  6. can u simply take the water jacket cover off the drivers side of the engine and the temp regulator off the passenger side and start flushing all the crud out and use a coat hanger and spray nozzle to clean it out good?
  7. ok Thanks guys.. Bob Im so thankful that you got me fixed up on this forum.
  8. hey guys thanks for the input. I did go thru the entire timing process/ points setting procedure again. Not sure what I had wrong but the points gap was a little more than should have been. got it running smooth now. Is this the best way or go ahead and set it with the vacuum Gauge? Thanks for all the help. Mark I have the block I got from you at the engine shop. They are going to try and outfit it with insert bearings. The rods will likely be 350 chevy bearings. They are having trouble figuring out what to do for the mains. I was able to purchase a few more rods too. If all goes well I should have a spare short block with inserts ready if ever needed. If anyone has an extra head I would be willing to buy it so I could have a complete engine ready for the car.
  9. Ok guys, I have got my 31 - 50 all together again. I set the ignition points and adjustments as described in the specifications manual. But I still had a miss. . The muffler is rotted pretty bad and needs replacement so it makes it a little noisy. So I have a question. If I understand correctly # 1 cylinder fires 12 degrees before top dead center. If everything is adjusted correctly should I be able to use a timing light and use the 12 degree mark on the flywheel to double check that the timing is right or am I missing something?
  10. this id plate is located just near where your ignition coil is mounted. That coil should be mounted above your generator in the two holes you can see from your pics.
  11. All the buicks had overhead valves. the straight eights were put in buicks starting in 31. I believe you need to measure the wheel base if you can not find the id tag on the firewall.
  12. Also, Most bulbs can take excess voltage I think would just make them brighter. However, bulbs tend to blow when in use and taking a heave bump, shock. Like hitting a huge pot hole.. I could be wrong, just my thoughts.
  13. grounds????? MAY BE SIMPLE BUT CHECK THAT YOU HAVE GOOD GROUND. I have checked grounds on electrical systems and lights before that I just knew was good. I took a good quality set of jumper cables and went from the battery - to the light fixture. lights came on. What I thought was a good solid and clean ground was not. I know this is a no brainer but sometimes its the simple things that get us.
  14. That is amazing. She is definitely a stunning beauty. Take good care of her Vic as I would love to own her some day. Thanks for sharing her story with us Marty.
  15. I am very curious in how all this is done. will you please post pics as you go so I can see exactly how the overdrive is built and modifications made to make it work?
  16. Ok guys does installing OD on these pre war buicks affect their value? and How is this OD accomplished? And what will one expect to pay for it?
  17. Dear Jesus, I know that I can survive without this car. But I would really like the cash to buy it. And O how the elderly men at church will smile from ear to ear taking a ride in this chariot.... ( :

  20. Did anyone see the 31 buick 96s rumble seat for sale in the bugle? It read :31 Buick 96s rumble seat coupe, T4he BIG ONE, " California Special". Wire wheels, Side mounts with rare metal covers, metal trunk, wind wings, cigar lighter, 67,335 miles, rust free, los altos Ca. $18,500. This car looks beautiful. Not sure if restored or if engine has been rebuilt. What is a fair price for this car and is it that rare? I have far more than this in my 31-57. Comments Please?
  21. buickborn , The top does look good. not cracked and old. Im not sure what original material on top looked like. paint from what I can tell looked good. just bad choice in color. I did see headlight buckets, seats, hood sides, and new boxes inside. not sure if they were new parts for car or not. However, The chrome work Or nickel, Whatever would be correct for this car had not been touched. spotted with rust. So I know the chrome needs done. The engine looks complete and fresh paint. just dusty. She said it had been rebuilt. The car was purchased as is and her husband never got started on it. It is my understanding he was going to make a street rod out of it. I do feel bad that they gave so much for it. I feel the got took . My experience with my 31 is yes they are rare and hard to find which makes you think they are worth A LOT. But due to the lack of reproduction parts, Assume to be due to not enough out there for after market parts guys to reproduce parts, Makes them very expensive to restore and hard to come out on top....
  22. Hey guys, Finally got some pics to load. This is the 29 buick the lady has for sale. She is asking what her late husband gave . 11k. I think that is hi. but she still wants to know what she should ask. Any suggestions?
