  1. Find yourself a thin wall socket, the bore is just a bit too small. Or sand down your old one.
  2. The area in question is not the rubbing block and cam, but thanks for the reassurance.
  3. today I picked up some all purpose moly grease to stuff down in the cavity. I guess I'll see how it goes, but the moly grease is what was used for contact points. Dug a little deeper and saw people were using dielectric grease on the rubbing block? Doesnt make sense to me.
  4. I can't comment on the wire wheels but i will say that i found in my personal experience, the disc brakes were not worth the effort.
  5. Got some big boy toys today. The rest comes in tomorrow, hopefully, from CARS. The Buick is still in the paint shop, but I can at least reline the vent window and rear window in the mean time.
  6. Today was the 3 year anniversary of getting the first engine fired and the car rolling under its own power. Not much to say other than how disappointed I am with "experts" in the hobby and how if I knew what I do now back then, I probably wouldn't have been screwed as bad as I was by literally everyone I paid money to to have something rebuilt. This hobby is very love/hate and the only reason I haven't given up is because of the community here. I never get to go to shows and I'm most likely going to miss the all Buick open show this next weekend, but hopefully that will all change next year. I hope to meet all you wonderful people some day so I can give thanks in person.
  7. This is the area in question, the reservoir that goes under the plastic cap and felt washer. It was filled with some saw dust like material caked in grease or something. You can see the hole in the bushing that lubes the distributor shaft. There's not way for motor oil to get here or to lube it manually. So moly grease instead of wheel bearing grease? The felt washer I was instructed to soak in engine oil.
  8. Interesting headlight choice. Are you going to wire the halos into the parking light circuit?
  9. I'm hoping someone can help me out with this. On the earlier distributors (57, etc) there's a wick that you oil to keep the top bushing lubricated. However, on the later distributors, it's like this saw dust grease under the plastic cover below the breaker plate. I dug all that junk out when I was cleaning and shimming this distributor but I'm not sure what to put back in. I was thinking of using heavy duty wheel bearing grease in the place of the saw dust stuff to lube the upper bushing. Any help is always appreciated.
  10. I wouldn't claim that as a credible source. Reading through it, he cites facts and studies and information without citation, which is really poor for a research paper like this. Anyone can say "studies shown" but I'm personally interested in exactly what studies are shown. There's always room for bias, whether the author is correct. I'm anticipating someone in this thread to chime in and say using zinc in flat tappet engines is an urban myth with many thousands of miles on normal oil.
  11. Thanks for the replies. I've already broken off all the staples by twisting them until they broke. I like the rivet idea and I'll most likely go that route since I'll have to rivet the division channel back into place.
  12. $800 for the entire system? Compressor Generator Pulleys Condenser Evaporator Floor vents Dash controls Dash vent I think I'm missing some smaller stuff
  13. I prefer the FelPro gaskets because I can reuse them most cases without creating a mess and scraping the heads/intake manifold. The Best Gasket set is good, but even without sealer they have stuck to the surfaces every time I've used them. Might be best to use something like weatherstrip sealer on the making surface so it easily breaks away the next time you need it off.
  14. My blower motor is noisy with the vents closed, but quiet when open. I've seen these motors at the hardware store, have you considered maybe adapting a modern motor in place of the original?
  15. Sounds almost like an engine vacuum thing. No vacuum under acceleration and the lights go off. Any smoke out the tail pipe like you're burning brake fluid?
  16. Looks like it's trying to be an Oldsmobile.
  17. Anti theft.. flipper thing on 2 door hard tops that open when the door opens and closes with the door closed. They look to be a strip without the stainless bead but I'm not sure. Vent window gaskets are being replaced, as well as the rubber strip on the rear quarter window. Thank you Bhigdog for the information, greatly appreciated!
  18. okay, so how do you go about separating the upper division channel from the vent window and lining the anti theft channel with new mohair? The anti theft channel and the channel that sweeps down to the rear are in decent enough shape I can get by without messing with but the vent window I'm having difficulty with.
  19. The mohair liners are stapled to the stainless trim and the sheet metal mouldings on the interior on my car in the rear.
  20. okay, so I've got a few more questions. I'm really on the fence about going all out on the mohair because it seems a little more involved than I had previously thought. On the vent window channel, how does the upper channel separate from the vent window? I see the lower channel is riveted in, that should be pretty easy. There's a rubber gasket that goes under the vent window, does anyone supply this gasket? Looks to be pooped into place. The mohair that goes into the upper roof channel from front to back, what's a good way to replace that? I should mention, my mohair isn't bad but it isn't good and I'm considering leaving this to a professional shop since I don't have the tooling to replace some parts it seems. I also do not own a heavy duty stapler.
  21. Engine vacuum at idle should be 15-16 in Hg. If your vacuum pump is bad, you might want to look into a rebuild soon.
  22. If the vibrator is not audible, turn the radio off and send it out. If the vibrator comes on but there's no sound, definitely turn it off and send it out.
  23. I've personally never had issue with glass fuses. Why do you want to hook up the radio if it doesn't work?
  24. It's decorative to tell you what is what. Vacuum hosing by design is made to not collapse.
