  1. Right on the money. If you want top dollar for a car, invest a few dollars to show this car in it's best light, or put some elbow grease in it if you are short on cash.
  2. I would be afraid to put anything in the trunk as this would compromise the ability to steer the car. One cannot appreciate how long this car is until you see this car in person.
  3. Also interested in the stainless reveal on the drivers and passengers doors. Hard to tell the condition, need pics. Mike.
  4. I agree, clean it up and try to keep it as original as possible. IMO only way to go with this car. Depending on the condition of drive train, still cost some bucks to get it on the road.
  5. A little over the top for my taste. It seems like the guy did not know when to stop. Slightly goofy looking.
  6. I agree that all of the seals for the doors should be expected to be long gone (wind noise). That said, I have a 2009 Silverado with 55,000 miles on it and the squeaks are annoying, so a car 50 years older would bound to have some.
  7. Might try Chevs of the '40s reasonable and have much 6v supplies in stock, or YnZ.
  8. IMO if you really want a wagon, this would not be a bad car to start out with. A thorough check to see how much rust is on this car would need to be done.
  9. I agree, to jump in at 40K you better be single and loaded, another homewrecker if not. If the car ran, it wouldn't be parked for 20 years, so add that to the list.
  10. Hello, I am looking for the gravel deflector for a 1940 Super. This is the sheet metal that fits in between the rear bumper and the trunk. Also I am looking for the horn button for this car. I realize that you are in negotiations for the steering wheel. I only need the horn button. I currently have a '41 horn button on my car that is mint condition, but I would like the one that is appropriate for the year of my car. Thanks, Mike
  11. Nice looking wagon, but as I always say, they parked it for a reason. So at 40K the hole is deep to begin with and who knows what lurks in the mechanicals.
  12. This is the metal shield that fits in between the the rear bumper and the trunk. The shield should fit the 50, or 70 series Buick of 1940. Thanks, Mike
  13. Want to buy 1940 Horn Button. The picture below is from a 1947 and each year is a little different. I have everything but the chrome piece. Please provide pictures of item. Thanks, Mike
  14. Matt, the 44 is listed as a three passenger Business Coupe, whereas the 44S is a six passenger 2-door Sport Coupe. Pretty sure that's it.
  15. You might try this company. I purchased a complete steering, horn button and ring from them five years ago and it still looks brand new. I think that I paid $800 at that time. Koch’sPO Box 959 Acton, California 93510 Tel: (661) 268-1341 Fax: (661) 268-7011
  16. I agree with your overall assessment to tread lightly, but this might be open to interpretation, the ad states "no significant damage". It does look like that passenger side rear door is caved in, so before I took a long trip to look at this car it would be worth a phone call to find out what the owner considers significant damage. These 98s are nicely styled cars IMO.
  17. Question: This car has the radio antenna on the drivers side fender. I have seen this before, but not too often, was this an option?
  18. I agree, beltline handle is Super, or Roadmaster, but that steering wheel on a Roadmaster doesn't seem right. Close up of the hood pulls would tell the difference. I did a little research in the Standard Catalog Buick catalog and it seems that Buick changed in '41 and all models have the door handle in the beltline. This was a change from 1940 where only the Roadmaster and Super had the door handle in the beltline and all others were below.
  19. I agree, I was thinking that 10K would be ceiling to buy this car assuming that it ran. Looking at the interior I would be very careful washing the car, but you couldn't do much more harm to the interior. This is the first time that I have seen this type of steering wheel (maybe base model). I paid 6K just for the material for the interior of my car. Maybe a little over a grand for tires and I would be surprised if the car has been rewired. It would be a nice looking car when finished. If you really watched your budget and did as much of the work yourself, I think you could come out even.
  20. If the car runs well; stops well and there is minimal rust, then this is a good deal IMO. A 1953 98 with a padded dash that is intact would be my kind of car, even with the four doors.
  21. The trunk looks pretty good until you look closely at the weather seal. Almost non existent and I would not run it through a car wash if you treasure anything in the trunk.
  22. Check the Marketplace, the engine compartment looks great as does the interior. My favorite year for Packard.
  23. Handsome looking car from the rear. I like the color combination.
